Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | October 2013 | Ver 2000, Batman and some Angry Birds

Dragon's Crown has become my go-to-play game when I have thirty minutes to kill and I'm loving it

I had a dentist appointment this morning. I had about 40 minutes to kill, popped in DC and cleared two dungeons.

While we're on the subject of DC. I think it's time to finally hop online. My Elf is lvl 75 and it's been a slow grind to lvl 99, playing solo.

Just beat it recently no PVP from what I could tell and no references either unless they were extremely well hidden for me. However it's recommended regardless of that. Especially with the new update and PS3 Vita Cross play.

There is an arena for PvP -- not sure if you can go online with it or not though... I played with it against NPCs long enough to get the trophy and then neglected it for the rest of my playtime.

Invest in money is power and max it.
Get the super prayer for adventure multiplier on score on the results screen -- then go chain as many levels together as you can.

Holy fuck leveling in DC up to 75 exclusive in Solo.

Now that's dedication.

It's not hard. I have an Elf in late 70s, and Sorceress at 99. All done in solo.

1. Use that 1.5x Score/Exp prayer.
2. Get around as many decent sets of equips, and have "special sets" for those who you're having quite a difficulty with.
3. Start with one of those stages that gives you a camp so you can food yourself ASAP (I usually go with Red Dragon/Wyvern first). These bonus last until the next camp.
4. Chain as many dungeons as you can. They have a set order. It just loops once you finish the 9th. Chaining all 9 + 1.5 exp usually gives you a decent amount of EXP.

Alternatively, you can also choose "the other route" for bosses you're having a hard time against. Like I'll ever bother farming on Wraith's stage solo. >_>

You can also got 9 dungeons (all B route) -> fight the "endgame boss" to get that 9x S-rank items.

If you're chaining dungeons with a Sorceress, make sure you have that monocle that has a 50% chance to reduce MP consumption to 0. It's the LoC reward on Sorceress.

The durability of stave are proportional to the MP consumed. So those MP/Damage increase/decrease will also increase/decrease durability consumption. By having that monocle, you're effectively doubling your weapon's durability.

P.S. If you guys haven't noticed, the color of the bags match the color of the talismans. There's kind of a reason for that. :P

invizimals maybe....

Nope.

Invizimals is different game, it's just a shallow fighting game, and Sony and Novarama refused to improve the formula in the new one (The Alliance) and kept it the same old thing despite the fans request to make it more RPG like Pokemon, the PS3 game will be adventure game, I honestly think that this is the year the Invizimals ip will burn and die because of how stupid SCEE and Novarama are and how they think that Invizimals don't need the change or any new ideas.

Anyway If they wanted Sony could of have a Pokemon clone with any of the Monster Kingdom games (Jewel Summoner, Folklore or even Coded Soul - off course with making changes) since these games have the universe, monsters design and combat systems to make a very good Pokemon/Digimon clone or even a Skylanders like game, but unlike Nintendo and it's smartness Sony on the other hand is just not the company that give another chance or babysit a series with potential and make it big with changes or even care improve it.

It would be weird to announce a localization in a interview.

Sure, but he didn't drop a "We hope to address these concerns in the future" type of hint.

We have so many Monster Hunter clone in Vita and yet for some reason people don't think of making a Pokemon clone?

Because Pokemon X currently captures my soul.

Pokemon sells to children, which is an audience that does not own a Vita. That's ignoring the fact that in the late 90s there were a tonne of Pokemon clones (my avatar included) with few doing well enough to stick around.

Yeah, but we've got this Tales producer saying "nah, it's not happening" while Tabata from SQEX has been all "we are hearing you loud and clear, Agito is a companion game to Type-0 so releasing it in the west without Type-0 would be silly" and the like that sound like they are still actively thinking of Type-0's localization now and then.

I wasn't really talking about Type-0 in my comment. We've known for a while now that Square Enix were localizing the game, stopped, and thought of doing a Vita port.

Is there a page which lists which games are currently free on PS+? Getting my Vita this evening so just adding stuff to my basket now. I've noticed the front page but also found other games like Uncharted which weren't mentioned.

Uncharted isn't mentioned because it's a part of the yearly collection rather than the monthly update. I'm pretty sure this page is up to date for the EU updates.

So I have $25 in my PSN wallet and I'm trying to figure out what I'm gonna buy was looking at need for speed most wanted for the vita. Has anybody have a good experience with that game?

Cheers, even that page doesn't list games like Jak & Dexter Trilogy being free at the moment.

Crazy amount of content considering it's only £39.99 for the year. Shame I missed out on Wipeout though.

Jak is listed on the PS3 page, but it just so happens to be cross buy so you get the Vita versions. Having played a chunk of the first Jak on Vita, I can't say I have a problem with them not advertising it. :p

- Take Folklore real time combat system and elemental based folks/monsters
- Make it open world RPG with kids summoners want to be the best.
- travel the realms to catch all the folks
- Let the summoners fights each other using their folks

and here is your Vita's Pokemon with excellent monster design and combat system to boot.

will Yoshida do it? no... but you can dream about it.

.

it's a huge fucking problem for Vita and a reason of many why it just don't sell, lack of variety, lack of genre just made Vita unappealing machine to many gamers, if you don't like MunHun or weird japanese game then this thing is not for you, if you a kid it's not for you, if you a western games like shooters it's not for you..ect, Sony is big part of the issues since they lost multiple ips that were on PSP and didn't try to have it back (like Digimon and KH for an example) it's really sad and the sale numbers show how wrong Sony is with their Vita strategy (or lack of it).

Yep, it's the most similar thing although it isn't a clone. OK, you capture monster, but gameplay wise it's diferent enough.

Still, SCEA dropped the ball with that game. And with the PSP in general...

True it could been something in North America.

Nope.

That's more a SCEA problem when you compare them to what SCEE did this generation its a huge gap.

I agree wholeheartedly. Give us a portable Ni No Kuni with turn-based combat and faster pacing and I'm all over it.

Are we still ignoring the fact that Pokemon sells like crazy to all ages? Saw a lot of people in their 20s picking up copies this weekend at GameStops and Best Buys and I have at least 10 friends playing the game, which I don't think I can say for any other title except for maybe Battlefield 3.

Pokemon sells to that audience because they grew up with the IP. If Sony were to clone Pokemon today its primary audience would in fact be children.

I enjoyed it, tbh.
Despite the low resolution, constant 25fps and occasional bugs, I found it to be a very playable and satisfying racing game. The cars have a weight to them that makes doing things like drifting and slamming into police cars very gratifying, but as a result they're not very responsive.
The races were okay, but I had more fun just causing mayhem and then trying to outsmart the cops. I haven't played multiplayer so I can't comment on that.

If you can get it for cheap and already own (or aren't interested in) WipEout or Sonic All Stars Racing Transformed, I'd say go for it.
EDIT: Just don't be expecting anything along the lines of Burnout Paradise. You'll end up disappointed.

I feel like it could do well commercially if it drew enough parallels in the right ways. I don't think that type of game will be made, but there's still some allure to Pokemon that no other game has been able to capture, at least not for me. I don't play a lot of RPGs. I even gave Ni No Kuni a good run earlier in the year but after the 10 hour mark, the pacing just killed me. Something about Pokemon keeps it fresh enough that the grinding doesn't feel like a chore. I'd totally be down for a new IP that feels the same way.

Also, for what it's worth, there's definitely some nostalgic factor with the original 151 Pokemon for me, but I haven't played a game since Yellow, so I'm seeing a lot of Pokemon for the first time in Pokemon Y and still enjoying it quite a bit.

Are there any guides for Dragons Crown with regards to recommended starting characters etc? Is the idea you play through with different builds anyway?

That's more a SCEA problem when you compare them to what SCEE did this generation its a huge gap.

This generation SCEE released 3 LBP games without fixing the awful floaty jumping to make it decent platformer, they released 3 MotorStorm games without fixing the horrible rubberband AI and killed the series because of it, They failed to make EyePet even close to Nintendog or enjoyable to kids and killed it with the shitty PSeye and boring activities,

I'd say they SCEE just don't know what they are doing with their ips or how to make them better just as SCEA and SCEJ.

Pokemon sells to that audience because they grew up with the IP. If Sony were to clone Pokemon today its primary audience would in fact be children.

You make your audience, old and small, see Skylanders for an example you have olde people playing that.

the "trick" that Yoshida and Sony fail to know is that you need to have faith in your ip, if it has potential you improve it, if there is small fan base you work to make it bigger with more improvements and games not just kill it in the first try just because it didn't sell billions (see MH, how stupid will be capcom killed it after first PS2 game).

Are there any guides for Dragons Crown with regards to recommended starting characters etc? Is the idea you play through with different builds anyway?

Dunno I thought it's a boring game no matter the class you pick.

and you know a game is not well made when gamers need a guides for starting the thing.

By fans you mean people that writes in forums right? If you think they are the main target of those games, you are missing something...

Do you want me to link images with bags, pencil cases, figures, trading cars and other stuff? Invizimals has enough appeal to kids because of it's AR gimmicks. Where it's marketed in the right way it sells.

Still, it's going to be slaughtered by Pokemon in a way Pikachu is gonna look like a psychopath.

Maybe I should just hold into my money then lol wait for something good to pop up :P.

Wrong again.

You can get an item to respec later if you're worried about wasting skill points.
Most abilities are viable.
Easiest starting class is probably the fighter, but he's the boring one as his skills don't really do a lot.
Check out the PS3T trophy guide -- they give a pretty decent synopsis of recommendations for each character if you want to have a gameplan.

Xseed post about Valhalla Knights 3 on the PS Blog

http://blog.us.playstation.com/2013/10/14/valhalla-knights-3-out-tomorrow-on-ps-vita/

- Online Multiplayer added for the US/EURO version (but no online coop)

- No edit or censorship from the JP version.
- Teased more Vita games beside Ys (here comes SK: Shinovi Versus)

All good news for me... Wait! Euro version? There was no announcements for an euro version, don't tell me that it will have a stealth eu release? :O

Enough appeal because AR is still a hot gimmick for kids with samsung phones and tablets? no one care anymore about AR and it's not on PSP anymore, it need a change, it need a new ideas, it need to be a better game not just a shallow one trick pony, the series need to grow up with it's fans, the Invizimals PSP kids are not kids anymore (and there is no kids with Vita since) a smart developers/publisher will evolve it and make Invizimals a better game and learn from Pokemon and Skylanders and make it that appeal to more gamers kids and teens and adults, males and females.

It's not sales fight, no one will ask this to see even %1 of what pokemon will sell, it's how you improve a series and gain more fanbase, see Skylanders not only they add what older people want (better gameplay, more RPG elements) they improved everything, see Digimons games are now a big epic big rpg games now, you don't just stay with your one gimmick and aim for small kids only.

If your primary selling point is something that can be considered a gimmick (and one that Sony has no problem undermining by releasing iOS/Android apps, and PS3 games) you'll likely have more in common with a fad, than an actual franchise.

Does anyone know the price of Angry Birds Trilogy on the Vita? I know the PS3 version is $40; is the Vita version gonna be the same price?

Last game was out like 2 years ago, so I don't think the kids are now all CoD players. Still, the gimmick is a lot more refined than the older ones, you didn't even need to use those weird cards anymore.

For what i've seen Skylanders is precisely the kind of game the PS3 Invizimals is. A platformer / action game where you can swap the monster you are using. It may not have the RPG elements you are talking about, but it's still the same kind of game but without those expensive figures that could make the kids parents cry. Maybe the right move was to make both the PS3 and the Vita game a single release, I won't deny that.

And Digimon is not the best example. They maybe are now big and epic JRPG games, but the brand is death in the west, although the most important reason is how bad Namco Bandai has treated the franchise.

Still, everything we say won't care. If Sony market the game as bad as they have marketed Killzone, we'll see it bomb.

GAF... it's... beautiful!

Ah rats, it didn't come with a cable to connect it to the PS3.

It's gonna take ages to download stuff.

It didn't come with the charging cable? That's what you use. Unless you were wanting to keep that attached to the dock. You could still use it when you transfer stuff, and then connect it back to the dock.
