The possibility that Demon’s Souls 2 has been confirmed today through a stupid little text jumbler I made on my lunch is blowing my fucking mind.

Verendus and Demonite has been alluding to the existence of Demon's Souls 2 for a while now. Verendus has outright stated that the game is in development.

There's a sligh "blur" effect to the upscaled image. Check out the soldier on the immediate left. Focus on comparing his fingers, and the gun itself and just dart your eyes from image to image. I think this image comparison actually does upscaling a service, as (to me anyways) it doesn't usually look that close.
I'll do a proper comparison using a pc game.

First thing I noticed was the background of the timer (4:29) at the top-middle of the screen. It looks way different (due to blur?) on the upscaled image.
the HUD will be sharp, as it will render it differently from the actual geometry

When I enlarge the images it's very clear; so I'm sure it would be even more apparent on the big screen in my living room. Please note that I have no doubt that 1080p looks significantly better, and have been a strong advocate for 1080p only this generation, it was just that I had a hard time seeing the difference with the aforementioned example before clicking on the images to enlarge them.

Well of course. If they're both displaying at 640x360, they'll look the same.

My 2 girls just walked by as I scrolled onto this gif, they've just spent the last 10 minutes watching it over & over in hysterics, awesome gif.

The source can be banned here but the GT franchise numbers are public.

VGC shipped over 70 million in March 2013.

With more GT5 sales (I think it was in every week in UK chartz) and GT6 late this year... over 80 million is possible for end of 2013.

This game sells like hotcakes :D

This is photoshop's bicubic automatic. Everything gets smeary. In motion it will look worse. It's also not a fair comparison because when downsampled, image quality benefits slightly from the downsample.

Very interesting, thanks for doing this.

I'm on a 27" imac right now and when viewing the images at full size I can definitely tell a difference, so much so it's worrying. On the other hand, iMac screens are very high quality. Chances are I won't, in next few years, have a tv with a display as clear as my iMac. Also, I am sitting about 18" away from my screen. When playing games on a console, I will be multiple feet away from the tv. My guess is, I personally won't be able to tell the difference if playing on a 46" tv.

I am scouring the thread like crazy but can't find a Cboat Demon's Souls 2 confirmation. That would be insane. Or do we have another leaker like him, who confirmed it?!

Guys, Demon's Souls 2 guys. Miyazaki's new game?! PLZ. If Cboat confirmed DeS2 I will cry the manliest tears.

It will never happen.

Out of curiosity, Chartz shows 'shipped' numbers. Does Polyphony also show 'shipped' numbers? Sales are 2m higher on Polyphony's site, but not sure if that # is ' units shipped' or ' units sold'.

Either way, GT6 is pre-ordered and I can't wait.

P.S.: Sorry for posting Chartz screeny. It's been since removed. Please don't ban... (My fault for not reading ToS in full) :(

Sorry, but the Chartz is banned on NeoGAF for putting up fake numbers and is not a legit source.

With that site being banned, is there any site that gives solid numbers on games? I try looking on NPD, but they seem to never have #s I'm looking for, or only things from many months earlier.

There isn't really. You kind of have to watch out for comments here and there for the most part from events or developers. GT numbers on the website aren't a common thing with other developers. Having said that, Forza is a medicore seller. It's like comparing Resistance to Halo, a bit of a joke comparison (Forza being the Resistance in this comparison).

I don't think most people will sitting 4-8ft or whatever away either.

Question: Does current gen games use internal scalers or does it depend on your TV/Receiver?

Nope sales number for games are held close to the chest from what I can tell

Only those proud of the numbers state sales anywhere but at shareholder meetings

Sony really teased us (in a good way) pre-reveal. You had Kaz hint at not going first, then "See the Future" started popping up everywhere on January 30th. I first saw it on Facebook and went apeshit in a Vita thread about it. Then we had about a week of retrospective videos before the reveal that just left us feeling so nostalgic for the PlayStation of the old. Sony dropped bombs left and right with the hardware rundown and small list of games. It was small, but that conference was long. Then E3 happened, and we all know what went down there.
Remember when Microsoft said, "We are going to kill Sony at E3"? I just imagined a Kazified Syrio jumping out after the E3 conference and saying "We only say one thing to death. Not today."

I'm trying to find a dif. between these two shots....all that I can really tell is that the explosion in the first shot looks slightly better.

I find it most notable when comparing the Helghan near the center of the screen and the blue particle effects in the top right quadrant. There is certainly a difference anyways.

Here's a better example. Notice the blurring of all the textures. All options on high.

PD is shipped for sure.

BTW I think every other publisher/developer can share the shipments of their franchise... I like PD to be that open.

Are you saying people will be sitting closer than 4 - 8ft? I actually think 4 - 8th is probably the norm or maybe even below average. I could be wrong though.

Definitely a difference (although I'm viewing from a monitor), not big enough for me to care which version I'm playing I must say.

Oops. yeah, I meant will be sitting 4-8ft. Sorry about that.

I'm curious if they'd be as public with their numbers if they sold as many as Forza. Good on them for posting it anyways, though.

I swear I must be going blind because those two pics look identical to me. I want to see the difference, but I just can't. I can't see any blurring of textures and only the shape of the flame made me think you weren't playing a sick joke or posting the same picture twice.

There are some trackers that show numbers from time to time... like GFK France, UK, Spain, etc... I think every six month they shows some games numbers.

Famitsu and Media Create release numbers every week for Japan.

NPD every month for US * the late time they closed the numbers but before 2012 was everything public *

You seriously must be blind, or have extremely shitty laptop monitors. Grimrock doesn't have much geometry either.

Viewing on a 1080p TV and textures do take a hit & that back wall has details but it's completely blurred (DOF like) in the upscaled image

Do you mean you literally can't, or you don't think it's worth making note of? Because if you literally can't, you do have bad eyes.

They look identical to me. Ryse got trashed for the 900p reveal for this differential? Wow.

Ryse should look better as well because of the hardware scaler and whatever AA is added on top of that. I don't see 900p being a real problem for most people.

Now if it's 720p compared to 1080p and also minus some effects and lower framerates for third party titles... Xbox One could then look pretty bad in the multiplatform arena. That would be a worst case scenario for MS.

Haha it's probably just the monitor you are viewing the images on. If your monitor isn't very bright or sharp than difference will be hard to notice for most people. I do think, for the vast majority of people, the difference will be unnoticeable when playing on a tv.

Nevertheless, it still upsets me that all launch games aren't 1080p.

I see ..

I guess CBOAT changed your mind.

Lol, no he repeated what the edge article already stated. I'll be getting an xbox one in a year at the earliest. And that's if Halo 5 turns out good.

and I definitely won't buy one if there are red ring of death problems.

My point is to provide evidence towards my agreement that they originally did not plan on having a next generation console launching in 2013.

...is that not what we were talking about?
But both of those games have been completely re-worked, Ryse especially.

It doesnt even take into account that you will sit FAR away from the TV to notice the difference. I'd say 720p is still enough!
my room is 14 ft long, I've just walk to the end and I can still see the difference.
