this thread reminds me of people bashing those youtubers helping out poor/homeless people, because helping out the poor people was taped and uploaded on youtube for the public to view, nevermind that they were actually helping.

its surprising to see multiple people in this thread speaking on behalf of the women in the video, claiming they are being exploited or manipulated. Kinda sounds like the people who think all women that wear hijabs or burqas are oppressed. I'm not saying some people don't get exploited or such without 'knowing it', but it doesn't seem like the case here.

at the end of the day, these guys are donating over $2,500 of their own money towards the cause.

okay? criticize the video all you want, I just think its disingenuous to try and speak for the people actually in it. They consented to the act, and approved of it being uploaded on youtube with their faces for all to see. they don't need people telling them they were manipulated or exploited and whatnot when they made these choices themselves.

Can we speak about the people that created the video as being objectifying douche bags?

We see advertisements with models being sexually objectified, and the discussion is not about the motivation of the models to do it (although we can discuss how they could have been coerced into it). The discussion is how the advertisement itself is sexist, and perpetuates society's objectification (and ultimately violence) against women. That anyone would be oblivious to the implications of those advertisements (or this video) is troubling.

Don't confuse sexualization with objectification, sexualization most definitely does not lead to violence against women, and none of the women in the video are being objectified. That is unless your under the pretense that these women just aren't strong and independent enough to thwart the coercion of these men from manipulating them, I had thought we had moved past that kind of social stigma but I guess not. Sorry but they're grown consenting adults. They don't need you, or anyone, telling them how objectified and degraded they are.

My point is that people bringing this up as if that means it absolves them from having their method and actions questioned is not really valid. I mean, you ended on (and bolded and highlighted) that point for a reason.

This is pathetic and nothing but white knight faux-feminist bullshit. These are adults who consented to this, most laughing about it, who would have also signed documents allowing their face on video and you're acting like they're poor little petals who can't use the word no. It's kind of sad some people think woman are too weak or too stupid to make a decision for them self. They go up to tons of women in these videos and many say no. They probably asked for 8 hours straight for this video. Are these women too helpless to say no to beggers on the street or people going door to door for charity?

It's a bit of fun just like "no bra day". I've seen heaps of women comment about that to raise awareness. Oh but those poor girls who want to wear a bra on that day will feel bad and be forced to take it off too! We must protect them!

i never said anything about not being allowed to question their method. i was talking about people trying to speak for the women in the video.


also, i didn't highlight shit. i bolded it because I feel alot of people are glossing over that fact.

The sexualization of the female body, and more specifically, the commercialization of the female body (see this *NSFW* article I previously linked about breast cancer awareness campaigns) is directly correlated with the negative trends we see affecting women today. It is a verifiable fact through any study about the subject. Getting your breast motorboated is not about sexual liberation... it provides no sexual pleasure (maybe some out there have that kink). Don't confuse sexual liberation with women having to be raunchier and raunchier to please men.

Nothing more needs to be said. The women are clearly fine with it. They consented to be in the video, and to do it in the first place. People being offended for other people make no sense to me.

Agree with those saying it's exploitative and gross. They cottoned on to a clever approach to touch random women's chests and forward their channel using a sympathetic issue and flying a positive banner. Not cool at all.

I never once brought up sexual liberation or even implied it, so I don't understand why you went off on that little tangent. Also women today are more sexualized today than at any point in history, and yet we've managed to make tremendous strides in women's rights and awareness of social issues. I fail to see how sexualization in any ways leads to violence. If that were the case than the middle east would be a beacon for gender equality.

Since this entire thread has been about not getting it since I left this morning, I'll just reply to you.

I said it bothered me because incentivized donation works because in general, people feel bad for not doing a simple thing that leads to a donation.

Using incentivized donation as an excuse to fondle breasts is kinda gross.

At no point did I or anyone say that all those women were poor helpless flowers that needed my 'white knighting' (Can I even be a white knight?)

These guys have always come across as kinda assholeish to me, and this is also kinda assholeish. That was my point. They are getting more hits and more attention and free publicity than anything. They are making money off of this.

That said, lol why do women feel uncomfortable on Gaf?

You talk of not moving past of some sort of stigma to women not being strong or independent, as it relates to sexualization. From the study I linked previously...

Do you really want to take the angle that both 1) women today are less exposed to sexual violence despite lesser clothes, or that 2) things like porn, advertisement, and the media sexual objectification of women don't have negative effects on women?

Again, you aren't understand what I am saying. And no, I didn't say it in a way that was making women seem helpless. I gave a specific scenario, and said that's why shit like this bothers me. I did not say every women in the video was guilted into it. I said it's likely that some were, however. Even the ones who were uncomfortable with it likely feel okay with it, since they were 'giving money to cancer'.

But no, we have to jump on every single excuse to shit all over people who offer different opinions on 'guy' topics. I'm a prude, I'm the sexist for not accepting their agency, I'm a white knight, blah blah.

And those other videos you are talking about aren't sexually loaded. If the took the homeless man out and treated him for two days and required that they allow him to have his balls fondled on camera? I'd be just as against it.

It's like complaining about companies who donate because it's a good advertising or for taxes reasons. Shouldn't we be happy it actually help the cause more than the intention of those doing it ?

I miss that good old video thread about a man touching 100 ( or more, I don't remember ) girls breast ( in russia I think ? ), every single thread involving women body didn't go the 'boo it's sexist' route.

So people aren't allowed to disagree or question your views without in some way attacking women or making them feel uncomfortable? Please don't act like a victim here because no one I've seen in this thread has made any attempt to slander or attack women. Two sides have differing perspectives on what's gross and what isn't, but one side or the other isn't attempting to attack women or make them feel uncomfortable.

Also if you're manipulated by charity to allow a stranger to motorboat you, than I'm sorry but only you can accept that responsibility. And again, this stems from the same notion that the consenting women in the video are being manipulated and not fully in control or having fun. Some of us heavily object to that philosophy because we find it condescending and patronizing, and gross that labels like "objectified" and "degrading" get thrown around towards the consenting adults in the video. Even if some you mean no ill-intent, many of the women would feel offended just from the comments in this thread proclaiming they're being coerced, degraded, etc.

The bottom line comes down to the fact that its consented.

If someone comes up to me on the street to ask me to do something I feel that is uncomfortable even if its "for a good cause" it would have to be balanced out.

the good it does has to be stronger than my un-comfort level.

and the good any breast cancer donation does is highly questionable.

maybe the real issue is how shallow Breast Cancer funding and awareness has become, its too much of a fad, and the money is too far spread apart.

I always see this stuff in threads where people(not saying you) feel like they need to defend and act like women are such delicate beings and need protecting and throw out a far stronger reverse sexist tone than anything going on in the actual topic.

I never said it wasn't, though I have to agree with Fiction and Stet about the pressure-nature of the 'charity' being done and the use of incentivized tactics in general, especially in this way. I personally just find the entire enterprise to be an exercise in furthering their own goals (being pervy and getting views/more viewers) using an important cause to give it more exposure and a 'feel good' veneer.

As you say, I do wish we had more solid results from all the fundraising that has been going on for years, especially with the Komen shite. That's perhaps an issue for another thread, though.

Why is it acceptable when Kellogs runs the "every box of cereal you buy we will donate XX"
Its rare to see anyone donating or doing something 100% for the cause, always something in it for them, and Breast Cancer awareness is plagued with this

This shouldn't just be stapled to feminism or sexism just because its convenient.

I've been called a prude and sexist for stating my opinion in this thread.

I pointed out that incentivized donation by their very nature make feel pressured to do a thing. It's usually a relatively simple thing (send in yogurt lids, collect box tops, whatever), to gain a reward for some charity.

When you throw in sex, then it becomes a bit gross. I am not understanding why people aren't getting that.

By the way, I am 100% sex positive.
