I completely understand if someone can't listen or buy his music due to the use of the faggot word.

Makes me cringe too. Its his in ability to grow out of his own limited knowledge base. For the record I don't think he is homophobic but that word is in his rotation just like fuck, slut, and motherfucker.

BTW Eminem will be the musical guest on SNL on November 2nd. I doubt he performs RapGod but expect a performance of Berserk and Survival. Hope the 2nd song he does that night is another new single we haven't heard. It will be 3 days before the album is released.

Wasn't really into Berserk and haven't heard Survival, but he destroyed himself on his own track with Rap God. Old em would be crying tears if he faced current em.

This thread is terrible.

You guys don't know what Hip-Hop is. Nor the definition of racism. Or homophobia.

The track is dope...

I agree about the rotation part but I don't think he lacks vocabulary at all. He aims to offend.

Not that it is right or whatever...but I guess you don't listen to much rap at all then?

I do wish Em would knock it off as he doesn't have the Tyler the Creator "excuse" of being a dumb kid. But still if that keeps you from listening to an artist then from the rap side of things your list will be unfortunately small.

Exactly. Very small. I'm not going to listen to dudes spouting the word "faggot" on a mic. I realize that it's considered more "acceptable" when that happens on a rap or hip hop track, but that's ignorant bullshit. I think there would be a ton of outcry if a popular rock or pop group dropped that word in a song. I don't believe in double standards.

Faggot is also a food.

It's not like Eminem doesn't like Gay people, he's good friends with Elton John.

I don't think a guy can drop the word "faggot" and claim to like gay people. The Elton John business is and has always been a PR stunt.

I'm not gonna argue whether or not he's homophobic, but Elton John is actually one of Eminem's sponsors, and they're meant to be close friends. I really doubt it was just a PR stunt.

I don't know either of them or how solid their friendship is. Maybe someone should have Elton listen to this track and comment on the word "faggot" being used so liberally.

This is an improvement over Berzerk and Survival, but yet again he's all over the place with this track (not a fan of production either). Worst offender is that he jacked "Lookin Boy" of all songs then called himself a product of Rakim on the same track, fuck outta here lol. Got love for Em for his dedication to the D and I understand he got to appeal to a crowd that will honestly eat up near anything he puts out so it is what it is.

Listening to Relapse for the first time in ages just makes me sad. I don't even like the album that much, but Em's flow is as good as it's ever been. What the fuck happened.

I just really don't see it. I live in a pretty decently sized blue collar city and "faggot" is standard vocabulary for the most part. I just don't think the average person is too offended about it.

I don't know about his friendship with Elton John. Eminem is stuck in the late 90s mode of "I use faggot to insult" but not to really mean "gay". Or maybe he does use it to purposely offense. Either way its cringe worthy. That said I do remember a bunch of interviews around the time Relapse was released in 2009 (his first album after the 6 year hiatus) where he was asked about his views on gay people and he claimed he had no issue with gay people, marriage, or anyone.

That was real good. Eminem's rap just isn't my style though, I'm more into the poetic side and thats why an artist like Blu is probably my favourite hip hop artist.

"Naïve as the dry leaves on the ground
Lookin' past the tree to the blue sky askin':
Why me?"

Haven't heard an album from 2000's better than Blu's below the heavens. Too bad he's extremely inconsistent

Getting offended by Em's antics is laying right into his hands.

One could argue (it's a stretch armstrong type reach) that the lack of controversy is what made his last few outputs seems tame (ReLapse tried but it felt idk forced with tracks like Insane. and ReCovery occasionally fell into Inspirational Rap too much lol).

But regardless, if you are surprised that he's dropping the F****t bomb still..then you expect too much of the guy. I'm sure he will diss his mom again too.

flow seems pretty good but the beat is absolute shit. You would think now that he is one of the big rappers that he could make a decent beat but nope.

I hope none of you who are offended by this go listen to Necro.

When I was 12 I downloaded a music file off of Napster called "Korn - Smells Like Teen Spirit" thinking it was some amazing collaboration between Korn and Nirvana. What it actually turned out to be was "Eat Shit and Die" by Necro. Needless to say I was scarred.

Well, I mean, what did you put in the PM header?
"I couldn't help but notice you were black"

who's your favourite rapper?
I don't know, it's album specific. Anything from MF doom to prodigy, really. I'm not particularly interested in technical superlatives, mostly flow, production, and personality, if that makes sense. The Cold Vein is a persistent favorite, for example.

Alright poster too :coliemote

people complaining about the lyrics...

you expect a guy that partly built his career off his shock factor/explicit lyrics to be politically correct all of a sudden? you know what to expect from him by now, so what is there to complain about. just SHAT AHP and enjoy, or don't listen to it. Let's spend another 10 pages over complicating everything and taking the joy out of it all.

It's the problem with anything now a days. If anything is at all controversial and someone doesn't like it then it shouldn't exist in their eyes rather then just not listen to it. Especially when it literally comes down to the use of a word. Even if he was homophobic (which he stated years ago he is not) does it matter? No. It really doesn't.

Haha, I was just about to post this. Listening to Relapse again is an eye-opener. Yes, the delivery is annoying; yes, the lyrical content is repetitive and absurdly misogynistic. But, holy crap: Eminem's actually rapping coherently instead of just shooting off punchline after punchline. He still sounds like an artist. His flow and rhyming are impeccable. And the beats aren't pop songs clumsily assembled into rap beats. They're actual hip-hop beats.

I totally get why people were disappointed with Relapse, and why "Not Afraid" was so refreshing. I felt the same way. Most of my favorite Em songs are the reflective ones, and there wasn't much of that on Relapse. But Recovery as a whole is mostly unlistenable to me. It's 90% random punchlines.

I'm also relistening to The Eminem Show. Damn, this album is fucking good. The most mature album Eminem's done, and definitely as good as MMLP. Not much Slim Shady persona at all on the album, just Eminem reflecting on a broad range of issues, from the war on terror to his own career. Eminem did an excellent job producing too; It's a very big-sounding album, which is a rarity in hip-hop.

Oh, and Soldier puts Rap God to shame.

well yeah if you listen to the first 3 eminem albums and even relapse so soon then your opinion of these new songs will drastically decline.
