While I personally don't think it's a big deal, some people do. It's not really hard to understand why. Many people are judged over things they did in the past and not everybody likes to forget (some for good reason some for bad).

You can hate Eminem for being a homophobe ... but I don't think you can hate him for being a racist (over something he said 2 decades ago).

The rap genre as a whole has a major problem with using the word "faggot".

It's not the Rap Genre itself so much as the battle community that came out of the mid to late 90's.
It is an interesting question, where does racism or homophobia begin? Does is start at language or the actions.
I never really thought Eminem was racist, if he were he'd be really stupid to be so intertwined in black culture. I think it's obvious he was a homophobe but I thought recent reports kind of negated that.
So the question of does using a particular word in a rap or poetic context reveal a persons belief, or reveal more about what that specific industry deems valuable, or maybe both?

I grew up in the southwest side of Houston and had a bunch of black friends growing up. Around them, in my comfort zone, I'd say it without thinking twice. But its not something I really say anymore, even with my black.friends in dallas, and its njot something I'd ever say around black people I don't know. For the most part its never gonna slip.out of me unless I'm back home with childhood friends. I don't knw.how it is in other parts of.the country, but that's pretty normal in the south.
Also, while eminem doesn't say it publically, he probably drops n bombs all the time in his personal life.

I agree, I just think that due to rap/hip-hop having a history of homophobia, I can see how an artist would be pressured into including the berating words ( of course they could not mention it, but my guess is they use it because they are accustomed to it and there is/was no negative feedback to stamp it out). I don't agree with it, but I think the use of the word could be a grand culmination of the persons beliefs, emotional venting, and the environment/ industry. I don't necessarily think there's one cause to the terms ('nigger', 'faggot') use.

Why is Eminem angry all the time. He's got to be one of the most sensitive rappers of all time! His raps are either about his mommy,his daughter, or him making fun of other people. Im not saying that he can't rap but he just doesn't have anything to say to me. This track just didn't do it for me.
