The way I see it we can go with it being part of a tourist attraction that bring thousands of visitors to the place and pumps money into the local economy or it being part of an interesting geological formation that people thought was worth trying to preserve for future generations. I like the latter personally, but either one should be enough to stop people from knocking it down for no good reason.
Sure you can argue that it is only one rock out of thousands, but after a while it will add up if we let people get away with fucking shit up for no good reason.
