Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | October 2013 | Ver 2000, Batman and some Angry Birds

I'm by no means an expert in the area, but I have no problems with the VA in P4G, some characters are better than others though.

Speaking of Persona 4, despite all the talk here about the various love interests I was still taken by surprised by Naoto being
a girl
. I have no logical way to explain why I didn't see it coming or figure it out before.

I also received a voucher today for the beta of Starlight Inception. Here a bit from the mail, it sounds like it could be a while before it's released.

Yup, there is absolutely nothing wrong with the VA in P4, unless you're a complete weeb who only listens to Japanese tracks and yet can't tell if the Japanese acting is bad or not.

Just a quick question concerning the Vita 1000 (I still haven't made up my mind on which one to buy), do PS1 games played in the original aspect ratio cause burn-in or they don't since the pixels are off when displaying black?

lol

Holy crap! And it looks like nothing has changed visually since the initial gameplay footage way back when it was supposed to be a Vita launch game last year. Same background parallax scrolling glitches and everything (trees scroll to the left as if they were drifting through the breeze like the clouds). System 3 are legends at delaying their shit. ヽ(。_°)ノ

He makes some valid points though! Except about X being good.
FFX is a good game. That's not even arguable. You can not like it, but that's down to your own preferences and not the game's quality, which is unarguably of the good caliber.

And absolutely NOTHING "defines FF's look" nowadays. They can all look very different. We have FFXIII with the kind of look he described. XII before it looked completely different and XIV & XV after it both look different in comparison to XIII as well as in comparison to each other. And his statements get even sillier if we take spin-offs into consideration, which can go from different kinds of chibi(-ish) art styles like Theatrhythm and Nintendo DS's Crystal Chronicles games to something like Crystal Bearers and Type-0. All of which have distinct look to themselves.

One thing I was wondering about was if it would be possible to integrate the original DLC packs into the game on the Vita. Since the online component for the game has been turned off a long time ago it seems.
Since all I found online was people asking if it worked and none of the replies seemed to get it to work, I thought it wouldn't.

But after a bit of messing around, I got everything to work. :D

All that needs to be done is connect your PSP with the original files to a computer, go into the PSP folder, then select the SAVEDATA folder and copy all the folders in there that start with UCES00001 (the US and JP versions will be named a little different I guess)
Make sure you have gotten a PSVita backup on your computer with the official content manager application and paste these folders into PS Vita/PSAVEDATA/ad01aa4e8d953f33 (not sure if that last string is random or not...)

Then connect your Vita to your computer, open the content manager and restore these files from your PC to your Vita and voila. Pure has all it's exclusive content back. :)

Holy shit!
I asked that here a few months ago and nobody knew it, so I didn't purchase Pure and Pulse again on the Vita. I absolutely LOVE the artistic Pure DLCs.
But now that I know it works I can't wait to download Pure and Pulse on my Vita. Thanks!

Btw. Altima comes from latin and means something like "height". Altima courses in Wipeout always include huge jumps or drops.

And absolutely NOTHING "defines FF's look" nowadays.

Amano and Nomura bring their own styles to the series. It's what makes FF stand above the other JRPGs.

oh yeah this is a Vita thread. I hope ya'll get FFX/X-2 for the Vita

I'm in Vita-heaven right now: after purchasing one and Spelunky about two months ago (plus PS+ games), I've recently got Dragon's Crown (EU version, I already had the US PS3 one), Virtue's Last Reward (wanted to play this for so long, loved 999), Little Big Planet and Playstation All Stars (both on sale). Love this little thing SO MUCH.

Eh, Crisis Core is way too high. Both Kingdom Hearts. Birth By Sleep and Ys: Oath in Felghana are far superior action RPGs. Personally, I wouldn't put Persona 3 at top either.

ZHP at 12? Half Minute Hero at 15? *shakes head* Those are some of the best games on the PSP, let alone best RPGs.

Since I have a couple of trips lined up, what would you guys suggest for a good Vita hard case?

I think its time to relieve my PSP of its traveling duties.

I bought this in a local (Spain) shop and I'm in love with it:
4rs_officially_licensed_play_thru_visor_case_ps_vita_1_xl.jpg

http://www.4gamers.net/products/ps-vita/play-thru-visor
It clips snugly around the Vita, and basically turns it into a DS-like clamshell; the lid even protects the buttons and sticks. The lid itself clips, so it's almost hermetically sealed. It has rubber-like handles on the back and a window/hole for the rear touchpad (I put a screen protector on both it and the screen itself for extra protection). The lid is on hinges that can lock at 90º or 180º; at 90º, it does a pretty awesome job of reducing screen glare/reflection. The hinges themselves go over the Volume+ and the On/Off buttons, but contain buttons on themselves that push down on the corresponding Vita buttons. This works surprisingly well and actually makes it more comfortable to use them, although it makes it slightly more awkward to reach for the Volume- button. Also, the case has holes for all ports and card slots except the SIM port. It's also quite cheap too, cost me less than 10$. Not sure if it will be available in the US, though.

You can stretch them to any ratio (original, vertical max, horizontal max, full screen, zoomed, custom). I've always played them in the original aspect ratio and haven't experienced burn in. Burn in isn't actually a common problem despite what you may have seen in that other gaf thread.

Personally as a 1000 owner though my next vita is going to be a 2000 for sure because from every impression I've seen the vita 2000 has been preferred over the 1000 as it surpasses it in almost every way except for the screen (which is still great for an LED).

Yeah, but I mean, is it possible? I'd say no because they not actually black pixels but just turned off, but I'm just assuming. And no, I'd never play them stretched, lol.

The extra black pixels aren't turned off, and I can't claim you're completely safe from burn in, but I've played a few hundred hours of ps1 games at this point with no problems.

The actual cases of vita burn in seem incredibly low and although you can find a few forum threads here and there, from googling there's not even any real articles about it. Most cases it seems to happen if you use the web browser way way too much.

What? Why? Isn't that how OLED works?

Just preordered Akiba's Trip 2 (looks like a more goofy, cel-shaded Yakuza) and the Madoka Battle Pentagram limited edition (because it's Madoka and I want dat art book). Christmas-for-myself budget has been thoroughly spent.

I'll post impressions when they arrive in November and December.

No idea, but if I physically cover the ps1 part of the screen and just look at the pillarboxed areas there's still a glow emitting from them and the mura effect is visible. There's a definite difference compared to putting it into sleep mode where it's definitely off.

May be an additional backlight that has nothing to do with the screen, I'm not very knowledgeable on oled technology.

I wish akiba's trip was as good as yakuza :/

You just made me imagine Kazuma going around stripping random girls. Would buy.

Oh, okay. That's weird.

I wish the Madoka Vita game would be released here, but the chances of that happening are about as good as Kyubei asking me if I want to be a magical girl.

which would be really weird seeing I'm a guy.

I just wanted to use a lame joke that tied in with Madoka and that tied in nicely

I wasn't going to go for the platinum trophy for Sly Cooper, But then as I use the cross save feature I learned you earn double trophies for the PS3 version. Double platinums!

Just finished my Kisuke playthrough on Fury Mode in Muramasa... Ugh. The
Dragon God boss
was a real pain in the ass. I have the worst headache. Gonna try to slog through with Momohime, then I just need to collect all the swords and go for the final four endings. I wouldn't have had an issue if they just wanted you to beat the game with each character in Fury. But to go for all the endings? Total grind. I think I'll play through The Walking Dead after this. Something that won't require too much of a challenge...

Any guesses as to when we'll actually see some solid results out of #JRPGVita? Or anyone else think that Shahid&Co got a metric shitton of rejections (Beyond the obvious Tales Of rejection that was made oh-so-public)?

BTW, has Patch No.2 came out for KZM yet? I ought to get around to playing that again sometime.

As far as I know, the patch for KZ is already out.

As for #jrpgvita, I won't expect any sort of results after at least 8 - 12 months after the initiative started. Shahid is only getting deals. Then we have to wait until developers actually start working on localizations and then choose to announce the games. It'll take a while imo.

That can be arranged.
bscap0011.jpg

Actually made me go "WHOA" there as I'm dead tired at the moment and with my face close to the screen, only to get "KYUBEY FACE" outta nowhere! D:
lol XD

I need to finish that series at some point. Think I stopped at the midpont with fansubs since it was licensed around that time.

Any impressions on Batman AO Vita ver.?
All I know about it is that it plays similar to Metriod with backtracking and exploration @_@

Man Atlus...hurting my wallet. I don't know what games to grab from the sale. I'm probably getting Persona 3 Portable...but I haven't actually played a Sting game yet, I own Yggra Union (physical) for PSP but haven't played it, and always wanted to play Riviera. Then I noticed there's some other ones I think. :(

GET ALL OF THEM! This way you'd be at $50 or close to $50, then you'd be getting $10 back in November! See how Atlus and Sony love you ;3

Other than to unlock Hardcore mode, is there a reason to play normal over casual on Super Stardust Delta? I completed the game on casual and moved up to normal and I'm not convinced I'm scoring any higher - and the leaderboards don't appear to differentiate either.

Loving it though, don't know why it took me so long to pick up. All the more hyped for Resogun now.

I wonder why developers don't wanna release more demos (of games they are deliberating on whether to port or not) to see whether there's demand for it...

I would download the demos of so many games (on every Vita I see) just to show them I want a localisation!

You just sold me on this one! Im looking for something like this so i can just put the vita in my pocket and flip it out for 5min to play while im waiting and put it back in my pocket without putting it back in the vita case. Does the vita + the shell fit into a vita hardcase?

FF XII on Vita would make me shit my breeches. Never gave it the chance it deserved on PS2, if I have to buy X to make it happen I will Square!

Yeah, I got all the trophies except the fury mode ones. I want to go for the platinum, but I'll play so,e other games first since getting the platinum means playing the whole game over. I'd have to get all the swords to see the final ending, and that requires the caves of evil...

I'll probably start playing Gravity Rush or Uncharted Golden Abyss.

RpgN:

*boots KZM online for the first time*

*acts like a total noob*

*gets better*

*eureka!*

*omg*

*dies from happiness*

Who was that guy who said online sucks? Because I'm having a totally different experience. Granted, my first playthrough is after its second patch. So that might be a more positive impression on the game...

It has 3 different modes, I tried out the first 2. The one where you're all by yourself is a bit tough, you get killed fairly quickly and you can easily see it's for those who are very skilled at the genre (any tips?). The second one is where you play in teams and it suits my style much better. It's way more tactical with the weapons that you can use in the field and the way the game works. My skill eventually became very average like the other players instead of dying the most (after 2 rounds). The last rounds were so exciting, we lost the matches by 1 or 2 kills.

The beta was way more typical and reckless. I'd die within a second. Maybe it was because I didn't play through the single player missions or unlock many equipment at that time. It might also be not being used to the game for not playing enough of it.

It's awesome that you have loadouts where you can adjust different play styles and the weapons along with the currency carries over in all modes. I'm not sure if this is unique to this game or that it's expected in FPS but I quite like it.

My past experience with FPS online is 2 rounds in Resistance Fall of Man and one in Resistance Burning Skies. That's all I think? Killzone Mercenary is so good, that I finally understand why there are many gamers who invest most their time on online modes. The joy that comes out of it is hard to explain, like you're experiencing something for the first time. Killzone Mercenary might just be the first FPS where I invest time in its online mode as well.

I have to admit that i'm totally not a fan of dimension shifting in guacamelee, it's too annoying...

Just got my Starlight Inception beta code :)

EDIT: Not working right now. Waiting for 10/22.

:O
Don't forget to post impressions and screens!

Do it!!

I only experienced a few hours of FFXII but then the PS3 took me away from it. Having it on Vita would be bliss.

Btw. Seems like the Twin Pack Vita version of FFX/X-2 is doing quite well. It was among the top 10 on Amazon JP games category and has been out of stock for the most part yesterday. I hope Squenix gets the hint that Vita owners will buy this (and I'm sure XII as well) like crazy.

And pls SE, bring that Twin Pack packaging here pls!

I'm (re)playing obscure the aftermath for psp and i have to say it looks really good imo, here some images for those who don't know it:

Man sound shapes is REALLY short and easy(absolutely not interested in death mode), but i really like the music of the second level from beck. Any suggestions for community levels? What are the best ones(especially music-wise)? Are the dlc worth?

I think the twin pack will do 100k+ easy in Japan. The system is doing 'pretty' well over the at the moment, be interesting to see what that Argos deal did for UK numbers, a couple of extra thousand maybe?

There are tons of community levels out there. There is this active person that is called A45X on there, he/she released tons of levels that have been very good imo. His/her last one (I think it was called in the silence) has great music. Another one has a theme of Silent Hill.

The DLC is only worth it if you A) are planning on creating community levels or B) you want to get easy trophies. They're instruments that you can use to create your levels, they come with beat school lessons, they showcase what you can do with the melodies. You have to guess where the notes are to the sounds that you are hearing. You get silver trophies whenever you finish beat school lessons.
