Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | October 2013 | Ver 2000, Batman and some Angry Birds

What the actual BLOODY FUCK.

Please tell me I am not seeing what I am seeing right now because my Vita currently automatically downloads an update for Killzone Mercenary and its a 1.1 GB file????????

Another Giga-byte update???

In another news, top of the page means recommendation to buy: ahhhhh Malicious Rebirth, NFS Most Wanted (thanks to you folks *not* buying it, we ain't getting another NFS on Vita :(((, and Dragon's Crown.

Oh, not a fan I take it. I haven't played it since back on PS1, but it's one of the only PS1 games I would buy and play if it ever made its way to EU. I hear it hasn't aged well though.

It replaces the old update so the overall file size doesn't increase

That 1.1 GB shrinks after update. Settle down. They stated as much. It's to prepare for future support like the possibility of bots in matches and the like.

I picked up 1・2 reload this past weekend and it's a really good port. Haven't put much time into it because I also impulse bought pokemon, but the cgs and sprites look amazing on the oled. They also included the alternate events demo in the main menu for dangan 1, which is pretty cool. Only thing is I wish they implemented more is the touch controls. Was hoping I could move around examination screens with swiping a stylus like in vlr, but you still have to use the shoulder/onsceeen buttons. The nonstop debate sections should be much easier with touch though.

Sounds good,

I unfortunately saw the anime first, but it reminds me in an Instant of Ace Attorney in the first trial, but yeah with crazy and horror elements...was hyped at the moment i saw it was a videogame

Valhalla Knights 3 just came in through Gamefly.

This seems like an action RPG straight out of my PS2. I don't know if that's a good or bad thing yet.

(1) Definitely not a fan. A friend who shared my love of FF games recommended it and it was one of the worst RPGs I'd ever played -- the fact that you *had* to get the timing down for some of the boss fights if you didn't want to sit there and GRIND. That timing for chain attacks required ridiculously precise timing as I recall and that lack of leniency left me stuck on a boss fight for weeks until I gave up, went back and grinded for several days and came back overpowered. Add in a very generic story and such and no, I wasn't a fan. I'd much rather go with one of the FF games, Star Ocean, Chrono Cross, etc.

(2) Exactly.

Calm down.
The patch stays at 1198mb.
And the devs said they're actively trying to reduce the digital footprint, I believe.

if the majority of people prefer it, it would be an accurate statement.

just because you might be the exception doesn't make his statement any less accurate.

I want better graphics if it means 30 FPS instead of 60 FPS; I'd not like my Vita games filled with 3DS geometry and character models/lighting.

Ah, the Capcom and Atlus sales are about to disappear in a few hours and I'm still on the fence on some of the games. My running total for the spend50get10 promo is at $57.48 (PS plus being the heavy lifter). Planning on getting that to 100. But the way my indecisiveness is going I won't get anything purchased!

On the fence on:
Kenka Bancho ($7.50)
Yggdra Union ($5)
Hexyz Force ($7.50)
Okami HD ($7)

While next week I'm bagging:
Walking Dead + DLC ($5.50)
RE4 HD maybe ($5.50)

While the prospects on the 'expensive' side are:
Dissidia ($20)
Ys Seven ($15)
Tactics Ogre ($20)
Jeanne d'Arc ($15)
...among others like Ys Oath, VC2, Trails in the Sky, Gungnir, but those are for another time

I'm just wary of a surprise PSP sale next week, and while I want to get them all it would feel 'off' if I spent $150 in digital purchase, I want to keep it down. Anyone willing to give comments on my wishlist to make the decision a bit easier?

Frost you try get 50 bucks in purchases?

I'll hit at least $50 with Lone Survivor next week.
Why?

Your Drake has achieved sentience and will now join Skynet.

Hahaha.

(1) RE4 HD is awesome. Definitely worth $5.50.
(2) Reviews for Hexyz Force looked good, so I bought it on sale at one point.
(3) I hear great things about Ys 7.
(4) Dissidia will go on sale again at some point. Unless you're dying to play it now, wait.
(5) While I did buy Okami a long time ago, I'm not a huge fan. I found it too long and sort of boring. Artwork is beautiful but the Charlie Brown voices are some of the most annoying sound effects ever.
(6) Now you have me tempted by Yggdra Union.

I was going to make a joke and suggest you to buy COD.

It starts kind of slow but Okami is a better Zelda game than every Zelda Nintendo has put out in the last decade.

Not even close, not for me at least.

I can't speak to Skyward Sword, but it can't even hold a candle to Twilight Princess... and as much as I dislike sailing, the empty world, and the lack of dungeons in Wind Waker, I'd put that above it to.
Those stupid Charlie Brown sound effects are the worst... I hate them so much... they RUIN the game for me. Capcom should've put in the option to turn off just the voices in the HD version.

Honestly it felt like a next gen followup to MM for me. I actually played it right before Twilight Princess came out and then couldn't even finish TP because it was so much worse.

The Charlie Brown noises are annoying yeah but you get used to them within an hour.

Kenka Bancho is a straight up brawler, If you like those kind of games, I say get it.

As awesome as Okami is, It does wear a little thin after playing for a bit..

Walking Dead is a buy

RE4 is a instabuy

I bought Dissidia about a month after I got my Vita (December), I haven't booted it up once. Its a really awesome game though, so its always there.. I guess I can boot it up after my pokecoke addiction.

Ys Seven is awesome. VitaGAF put me on to Ys and its one of my favorite AJRPG series now.

I know people who felt the same way... but not me. TP is my 2nd favorite Zelda, next to OoT. I don't normally rank MM in there because it's so radically different and doesn't really play like a classic Zelda game.

And I never got used to the voices. I ended up having to play the game on mute or without sound FX whenever I had a dialogue heavy section come up. The combat got kind of annoying too... the celestial brush just got on my nerves at times and I remember I started straight up trying to avoid battles because they'd become so tedious.

I think it's a decent game, but it didn't live up to the hype for me.

Well we can agree to disagree then. Either way though $6.99 is a killer price and it probably won't happen again for a while since this is capcpom.

Yeah, the sale price isn't bad... not a must-buy in my book, but if you have interest, it's a great price for it.

I agree with Skyzard -- Malicious Rebirth's Story 2 Final Boss is a bunch of straight up bullshit.

I want something to sink my teeth into on Vita. I have stuff like Killzone, Tennis, Spelunky etc But I want.. an RPG, or something along those lines I can casually play at my own pace.

It doesn't necessarily have to be a Vita game - PS1 classic or PSP is just fine!

How about Dragon's Crown?
It's an ARPG so the campaign isn't as long as in a normal RPG but the fun comes from redoing the dungeons and finding better loot like in Diablo games.
The core beat em up gameplay is fun and I think it is a good game to play casually while you are watching TV or stuff or just to grind.

sonfabitch.

I just came || to beating the last stage of Malicious and ran out of time.
You have to be kidding me... that barrier takes SOOOOO long to break... this thing is not easy.

If you can get him to stage 3, exploiting the claw ultra combo is a good choice. The problem is how to cause enough damage in stage 2 so you don't have to really deal with the barrier much before this.

I've been playing Machinarium every night before bed on the Vita. I already beat it on PC a while back, but solving the puzzles again has still been challenging. Love this game.

My only complaint is the use of the back touchpad. I like it in most other games that use it, but I don't like it at all in this one.

You must not play fighters, action games, or racers much. :P

Bullshit.

Fighting games: I can agree with you.

Racers: 50/50, depends on the sub genre...something like FZero or Wipeout; totally better at 60 FPS. Something like NFS - 30 is fine.

Action games: Resident Evil 4/Gears/Dragons Dogma/God of War? I don't need 60FPS, for those types of action games...

For something like Ninja Gaiden, Dark souls or Vanquish, Malicious brawler types? Still don't need 60 (I find them playable at 30, if stable). 60 would be preferable for latter types.

I want better models/textures/lighting and stuff at a stable 30. For other genres, though.

I found AC3:Liberation perfectly playable, even with the frame rate issues it had. I'm not super sensitive to frames and it's not something I look for or will scoff at - unless it's Jak Vita bad.

It's totally janky, but my understanding is that other versions are similarly bad.

I found it to mini-hang/pause everytime something was about to happen. Was very annoying - if you had the choice I'd certainly go for the PS3 version over the vita one.

The rules here, as far as I'm concerned are as follows:

Racing games which are based around speed should be 60fps to convey that sense of speed (amazingly WipEout 2048 manages to pull off a "30fps that feels like 60fps).

Games that require precision input and have frame based data such as God of Wars, Bayonettas, God of Wars, Ninja Gaidens, Devil May Crys, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance -- all of these should be 60fps. Period. End of story. Vanquish fits in here solely because it's predicated on speed and ridiculously precise input.

If it doesn't require precision timing or the need to convey speed, okay, stable 30fps will probably cut it.

I played AC3L and found it sluggish at times... but I never really bitched about the framerate being horrible because it didn't really affect gameplay that much if at all. And considering the scope of the game, I was okay with it.

Does anyone NOT like Spelunky? Tried the demo a whole heck of a lot and it just isn't clicking. This is coming from someone who usually likes roguelikes and thinks this type of game is right up his alley.

So hard to pull the trigger...
