Exactly, the smaller form factor is better to me, and the specs seem very similar, so I don't understand the price disappointment. The performance is a massive increase over the original.

$399? They're insane. I'm guessing that'll be around £329 in the UK? I paid £179 for my Nexus 7 2013 - there is no way the iPad mini is worth £150 extra. Sorry, Apple, but I think you missed the boat on this one.

Retina MBP is sexy as hell, though. I'm definitely grabbing one of those 13" models.

The Nexus 7 with the HD display is very appealing over the Mini at the moment.

Google did as well, and it is still way cheaper then the ipad is. It 229$ and most likely is comparable to the new ipad air. And the display is 1080p on the nexus 7. The processor and display is not worth that price hike.
