This shitstorm is gonna be good!
Titanfall, post if you are okay.
Unfortunately, this game also has an Xbox 360 version. If 720p doesn't matter, why even bother with an Xbox One version? The promise of the current generation of consoles was "True HD Gaming". And, for the most past, it actually failed to deliver. If the next generation of consoles, one with a US$499.00 price tage, can't even deliver on the promises of the previous generation, why are these things even being made? The question is...does it really matter?
what the hell kind of fucked up console costs 500 dollars in 2013 and can't run a goddamn source game @ 1080p
But if Titanfall is truly 720p on XBO, and it's 720p on 360, and it's whatever you want it be on PC, who's going to buy an XBO for this game?
If people start saying "oh Titanfall looks great, I think I'll buy an XBO" to their friends, their more hardcore friends (even if it's only 1 friend) who have gone with Sony will give them the skinny and they'll say, "wait for the PS4 version or get it on PC or just get it on 360".

720p should be reserved for games pushing these consoles to the utter extreme limits of it's unlocked capacity - a true tech demo game that makes everyone go "ooooow". It should not, however, be the standard for cross-generational launch titles built for a US$499.00 console on a seven year old engine in the year 2013.
We've had one entire generation of "kinda-sorta-but-not-really-HD". We're paying a good deal of money to get out of it. It, frankly, does matter.
In what world do you two live in where resolution is the end all be all of graphical fidelity? It sounds like you two are equating the X1 and 360 version visuals.
It's getting out of hand!
Resolution anxieties are infiltrating all Xbox One talk!
I'd like to be excited about next gen- it's slowly dwindling!

As a PC gamer, I find this shit to be hilarious.
MS dun goof'd
Being excited for next gen does not require one to be excited for the Xbone.
Not if the lead dev platform is PS4.It shouldn't be hilarious to anyone, even PC gamers, because your console-to-PC ports will be just as held back by lesser console hardware. Yeah you can turn up graphical effects, but the scope of the basic game design will be gimped to accommodate already aged console hardware specs.

I plan on buying TitanFall for the gameplay, not the 1080p.
Wonder if I'm in the minority when I think gameplay matters more than a slightly higher resolution? People are acting like all the sudden this game plays like crap because of this.
It makes no sense.

Ok you can't have it both ways. You can't go off on an argument that casuals don't care about resolution which then I counter with "then they should be happy with the 360 version" then come back and say "resolution is not the end all be all of graphical fidelity". I thought we were talking about casuals. THEY DON'T CARE. That's why Titanfall is not a system seller for XBO. It will be available on the 360 and they simply don't care about a marginal graphics difference.
If they don't care that the game doesn't match their TV resolution, they probably don't care about missing graphical bells and whistles.
Do you have alberts post and a translation of CBOAT?
"We already know.
Titanfall also.
Not cool to hold back on stuff we can't interact or tell truths with, even if it's the job to obscure >educate.
Transparency is better when dealing with this position. Whatever though."
I think that's about right. Crazy lol.
You act as if the X1 isn't even an upgrade when compared to the 360.
So the resolution is going to make Xbox One graphically equal to Xbox 360? The level of craziness here is reaching maximum capacity.
No, it's definitely an upgrade, but not enough of one. That was my point.
no. most of 360 games run at 880x720. xbone could do 900p or 720p. PC Gafers want 1080p
People who have owned a TV display (of a technology that is designed to work best with native resolutions) of 1920x1080 pixels for many years finally want a game console to provide pixel matched graphics. It's definitely time. But I guess that's just PC Gafers...
Are you honestly going to tell me that 7 years after the launch of the Xbox 360 at 720p that we were going to see games on the next gen console at 720p?
Yeah the visuals are better, but they should be better AND at 1080p. Like the competition IS PROVIDING.
I buy consoles for games, not pixels.
I buy consoles for games, not pixels.
Man these threads crack me up. Well done on the Nickelback gif.
I'm not going to convince anyone differently, but it's funny how people interpret the tweet as confirmation.
First - I don't know the resolution. I don't have more sophisticated tools than anyone else. I watch the game on a nice TV with the XBO set to 1080p for every game, there is no way for me to know what's native vs. upscaled unless I'm told.
Second, if I did know, it wouldn't be my place to say anything.
If the Ryse footage last week showed me anything, it's that you get a much more interesting discussion when you're looking at real footage.
So now I've seen the PS4 footage, and I've seen XBO running live. To me, they both look great.
The resolution will be what it will be. It will be known when Activision wants it to be known. The only thing I was curious about was if the games look different, and based on the assets available to me, they don't.
So I think when XBO footage comes out, and people can compare resolutions, effects, framerate and other things the debate will be more interesting.
All that doesn't come across in Twitter-sized bites.
Look, I get some people claim such amazing eyesight as to be able to instantly distinguish native vs. upscaled when you're in a room watching and enjoying a game demo, despite the fact that it requires normal people access to a direct feed screenshot with very particular sections zoomed up 8x to pixel count, while also making sure you're accounting for other intentional environmental effects that may blur or otherwise impact the image.

But hey, if you're saying you can tell the difference with enough accuracy to make a public disclosure about it, just by watching someone play the game, then I say wow.
I've seen a bunch of other 3rd party games running at various times, and I can't tell you the *native* resolutions of those either.
So me, I'm not making that claim. I'm sorry if you think that's a job requirement.
So this thread exists because one giant circle jerk thread is just not enough?
That's what I came to this thread to say. I can't believe that they're having problems with Source. More like I don't think this rumor is true. We'll see though. But if X1 can't handle Source...
Not if the lead dev platform is PS4.
So that means you own every console out there including PC, so this news doesn't matter to you because you will simply buy the games (including Titanfall) on the superior platform?

Some of the spelling from the supposedly reliable sources is certainly ass. Hideous. I can barely make out the first quote in this thread. Can someone please translate for the great unwashed?Good lord.
What the fuck is going on?
Is this part of the "ass storm"?
Your arguments are petty and pointless. The question is; does the game look and play well enough on the platform of your choice so that you are happy with your purchase.
Seriously how can you watch something like that, know it is 1080p x 60fps MP, increased fidelity @ 30fps SP and not just flip your ship knowing fucking Call of Duty Ghosts will not hit 1080p on a brand new next-gen console?
I plan on buying TitanFall for the gameplay, not the 1080p.

The reason is because this is the highest profile Xbone game, the one game that MS have trumpeted as proof of the performance of the Xbone. The fact that the game is running on the ancient Source engine and can only match current gen resolution is a huge red flag for the power of the console, with long term implication for multi-plats on the MS console.
Plus MS has been doing a massive PR push to claim the power difference between the Xbone and PS4 is minimal. Using all manor of dubious reasoning to back up their claims.
Is this a Google translation of something that was written in an ancient dialect?
