XBOne Version of NBA 2K14 Missing From Blowout Press Event, Confirmed Native 1080p/60

Update! Just posted:

"Runs at"?

So, bets on now, Is it Native or Upscaled, because "Runs at" is vague.

This is probably the most attention a basketball game has ever gotten.

With the amount that 2K has sold since 2K11, this series isn't just a best selling sports game, it's a best selling game period. It's up there with the CODs and Battlefields and GTAs of the world when it comes to top ten in sales.

So why did they not show it if it is 1080p 60fps? (Honest question)

No one's been able to answer if the event was showing off every version and the XB1 version was missing, or if they were only showing one version in the first place. It's likely the PS4 version looks a bit better anyway, or it could be as random as the current PS4 build happened to be closer to "public demo ready" form and they went with it.

That is also true. But Sony is no slouch. Those football ads aren't cheap. I'm not sure where the "Sony has no money for marketing" idea is coming from.

I'd bet so much on the idea that this particular situation is just marketing. IDK about NFS and all the others, but I'm pretty sure this is.

But Morty and bruceleeroy already said it wasn't marketing soooo?

This.

Just because GAF in general isn't that in to sports games, doesn't mean that 2K is a small franchise by any means.

Well at least this game is confirmed running well on Xbone. Although it missing from the event and having nothing to do with marketing does make you think.

Well, then...now I want to see footage for both PS4 and One :D
But first, show some footage, hopefully in a brand new trailer with Phil Collins again, please.

You might wanna leave these topics then or wait until something more official is stated.
I literally see you in every thread that blew up.

No one is forcing you or anybody else to read the whole process each time.

He has a very strong loyalty to the brand, which is his prerogative. I tend to agree with you, but I also respect that he's perfectly welcome to post in whatever thread he pleases.

But I have to admit, it's like touching a frying pan on the stove and bitching that it's hot. Then doing that 400 more times. Yes, the frying pan is hot. Wait until it cools, and you won't get burned.

I wish he had said "rendered at" because "runs at" to me still leaves wiggle room, although it would be fantastic for it to be 1080p/60 on both.

The denial from posters like blurredvision and giantsx6 is staggering. We just came off of a thread about why CoD:DoG wasn't being shown for the Xbox One, and your first response is that it can't possibly be a similar situation? I've never seen such a one-sided distribution of game footage before, even at trade shows. The Xbox One's absence from damn near every event should be telling, even if this ends up false.

Read the writing on the wall, guys, and stop trying to Baghdad Bob every piece of bad Xbox One news. Especially after confirmed leakers directly refute your statements.

You can still buy the Xbox One--I know I am! But there's no need for you to valiantly defend Microsoft's honor at every turn (especially when they obviously done goofed).
In any case their absence from these shows isn't associating their system w/ gaming, which should be their top priority for these first six months.

I really just keep getting this strong feeling MS underestimated the demands from this next-gen in a massive way and are going to pay the price for it. Then again, I can't believe a company in their position would be putting so many chips behind what's turning out to be a disaster of a console in the XBO (all things considered); the rumor of them doing an iPad-like refresh every two years could actually start sounding believable now.

The last two days here have been crazy.

I don't think we'll be completely sure until these consoles are in our own hands. publishers don't want to jeopardize sales and journalists don't want to alienate themselves from perks given to them by the publishers.

I mean it's still possible that the Xbox One version has worse anti-aliasing, effects, crowds etc., because resolution/framerate doesn't account for everything.

Still though, I am very happy to hear both versions are 1080p and 60 FPS. This game looks stunning!

What if it's the same as PS4? I think that's also an option.

You would literally need to spend time making one version of the game the same as the other with your purpose literally being to make them the same

They are not the same system so unless the game is severely lacking in graphics, there will be difference even if they are not as noticeable as other comparisons

I think some of you just aren't being very fair now to be honest lol.

Perhaps but I don't see how you would get them to look exactly the same without putting unfair effort into literally trying to make them look the same

Come on man just stop.

Just stop? You realize there was a 100 page rumor thread about Ghosts running 1080p upscaled from 720p on x1? Seems like a pretty important distinction whether it's upscaled or native. "Running" doesn't mean anything. Every X1 game will "run" at 1080p.

edit:

1080p native on both consoles BTW. No up-res.

There it is.

I never said that. Based on the posts in this thread though it seems like people were expecting another case of "720p".

All of this is starting to get a bit out of hand.

perhaps. Microsoft are letting it get out of hand though, which given their PR this year, I can't rule out as just their ineptitude, and maybe the systems really are closer in power than they're allowing us to believe by being terrible at PR.

Ryse is 900p. Crysis 3 was sub 720p.
Forza 5 is 1080p. Forza 4 was 720p.
Many fighting games were sub 720p 60 fps. None that I know of were higher than 720p. Killer Instinct is 720p.

We shouldn't be surprised by a game's resolution or framerate going up on Xbox One compared to similar titles on the 360, nor should we be surprised by the Xbox One version being inferior to the PS3 version.

I'm not surprised that NBA 2K14 sounds like it is going to be 1080p on Xbox One, given that the first game to be 1080p on the 360 was a basketball game, and given how few 1080p games there were on 360.

Maybe the Xbox One version will be pixel for pixel identical. It doesn't seem like a sensible presumption compared to the alternative though.

Oh you're right, there's nothing left to talk about...

What if it's the same as PS4? I think that's also an option.

I am just asking the question as to why it wasn't there. If insiders say that it wasn't a marketing deal then what is it? Why would they not show the game to the press? It could be they forgot their Xbox one's in the car but there must be some explanation for it.

*looks around

Pssst

Hey, you. C'mere.

Don't tell anyone, but its a really good possibility that the much stronger system will look better.

Really? Is that possible? I thought the Xbox One version of games were being hidden because they were better looking? Silly me. *hands over Trix*

what I am thinking is that a majority of this is probably a XB1 optimization issue... where some devs don't have enough time to work with the ESRAM therefore making them downscale their games... while others do make it in time and have there multi-plats on par with the PS4 when it reaches retail but are not able to show it at events since it isn't as finiliazed as the PS4 version

I believe if we don't get these certain annual games not running with the same resolution/fps/etc.... as the PS4 for this holiday then next year we might see them with an increased resolutiuon etc... since they've eventually learnt how to deal with the hardware

Ex: if COD is 720p then the next COD in 2014 would be 1080p
