Wooh, I caught my first shiny! ..and it's a Lillipup. I can barely see the difference.

So I have a Skarmory with Spikes and Roost but didn't breed Stealth Rock or Whirlwind or Brave Bird. What do I put on it ? I put 40 Atk EVs and don't want to re-train it so I was thinking of maybe putting an attack on there, or do I just put Taunt and Toxic or something ? I don't really know what other options there are. It's bulky and has good IVs in most things, including Atk and Speed.
 
So now that I finished the game, I started to pay attention to breeding and collecting pokemon. What I have learned so far:

IV training is still nonsense.
My Safari is: Ponyta, Larvesta and Fletchfinder
I love this game.
 
I just played the power plant section and was surprised to see it was in 3D. It looked so much better, surely the priority for Pokemon Z must be 100% 3D support.

There's no way they will patch X/Y right?

Given where the 3D is and isn't, it seems like the decision to cut it was purely performance based. The game barely runs well as is. Almost no way they patch in full support and I doubt any pokemon game on this engine/console will ever have full support. I just don't think the 3DS can do it.

I agree, and it's very disappointing.

I never, ever thought I'd complain about framerate quality in a Pokemon game. Then again, this one's doing a lot more than normal, but still...
 
I can see Z having full 3D. Previous 3rd versions always had graphical enhancement (usually moving sprites), can't see what else could they enhance in this case.

Except for thinning out half of Kanto Pokemon models because holy hell why are all of them so fat

The game is pretty, but it doesn't even have any lighting. The geometry in the overworld is barely a step up from the DS games and textures have no detail. Gamefreak are just kind of useless at programming.
 
Every single ragequitter online of the six I've seen so far is a Blaziken user. Two thirds of my team is supereffective against it, so those mega-evolution-to-win guys get upset.

Nah, Game Freak just suck at programming. Resident Evil Revelations, Ocarina 3D, Kid Icarus, Mario Kart 7, Kingdom Hearts 3D and Luigi's Mansion are all in full 3D and pushing vastly more impressive visuals. In terms of overworld detail it's not a million miles away from DQ9 on the DS. There is no excuse, presumably they just couldn't handle optimising the 3D performance in time for the release date. They couldn't even get a steady framerate in the single battle sequences, never mind the field portions.
 
Ack, just missed on a Huntail for Clamperl trade (comments said depp sea scale so I assume they wanted the Clamperl with that) in the time it took for me to find the items.

The thing is I really dislike Huntail and Gorebyss too...just doing it for the PokeDex.
 
I was looking for a spot to fish for shiny Poliwags yesterday, and ran into a shiny Skorupi, completely unintentionally. I eventually managed to snag a shiny Poliwag as well. I still haven't even beaten the last gym yet, hoarding shinies is taking up all my time.
 
Three more questions:

1. How does the whole breed-for-perfect-IV thing work?
2. How do I get shinies in the Friend Safari? Just random, no way to improve the odds?
3. Does having a shiny to use for breeding help with the Masuda method to get more shinies?

I dont get it. 80 hours in, no single shiny to be seen, but people report like shinies are everywhere.
 
I thought Malamar was supposed to be SpAttacker since it's Psychic. Turns out, it's actually physical when you look at it stats. That is pretty neat, because I bred an Inkay with perfect IVs in HP,Atk and Def and adamant nature. Speed sucks ass though. Should I go with a 4/252/252 split or breed another one with better Speed IVs?

1. Picture guide in OP helps a lot.
2. Random. Might be a bit higher than chances in wild though.
3. Nope. Shiny parents don't increase odds of shiny kids at all.

This IV breeding is surprisingly simple once you have a Friend Safari with Ditto in it. It only took me a few Scythers to breed an Adamant one with 31/31/31/31/?/31.
 
I need a squirtle! My fc is 0662-3540-0709. I have pretty much every pokemon you can catch up to the third gym, willing to trade any of them.
 
Man, Aegislash with Leftovers. Sword Dance, King's Shield, Sword Dance, King's Shield. What little damage you can get in is rarely good enough.

Aegislash will be "uber tier" for sure. He can just sit there in doubles/triples and hit +6 while the other(s) distract. Because what are you going to do, attack him with all three while Garchomp/Mega Mewtwo/Noivern/Perma-STAB Greninja sweeps your team? Then he can weave forms - if he attacks last, he can ALWAYS be in shield form when he's hit.

The only Pokemon I've seen that can reliably kill him is Mega Gengar, but the best he can usually do is 2HKO his Shield Form. Which isn't good enough when Aegislash can just Sword Dance-Shadow Sneak in that time and priority OHKO Gengar.

Worst Pokemon design ever?

I've only reached Camphrier Town. This game is so easy, but I have a hard time picking it up.

Team Flare theme, especially the overworld one is so good. Probably one of the most atmospheric OST in the series. Too bad the story isn't griping as much as BW did D:
