Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | October 2013 | Ver 2000, Batman and some Angry Birds

Found a guy with Kuro.

It's totally going to be 10 currency = $1 isn't it. $3 per event Spirit, $1 for Spirit Bank Expansions, ouch!

There are some spirits that you can get with the white stones, but dunno about the orange ones. I hoped you could get some everyday. If it isn't, my interest in the game is decreasing.

Top of the page: Buy Tearaway, try Destiny of Spirits beta, send my some money so I can buy more Vita games! xD

Did you end up solving this? My download is stuck at 169mb as well.

I switched to a new memory card, closed my eyes and waited a half hour before checking it again. If I'm not the only one then it must just be a server issue where you need to wait it out.

I also just realized that surprisingly the game lets you replay battles! I have a Yellow element battle (Fire beats it) and a monster that deals 2x Fire Damage as his battle ability, which I can instantly cast twice and cheese the fight.
They lower the rewards to 12/12 for subsequent completions, but that didn't stop me from getting +100 of both in a single fight from drops for 112/112.
I'm honestly amazed this game will (unless they change this or I'm missing a limitation) let you grind.

Bought Batman, will post some impressions later on :)

So jelly, wanted Toro or Kuro, too but only got that ugly dog ;(
Finally the Americans are popping up, need some to trade with to obtain different spirits.

Game is ok, I can see trying to get all spirits being a thing. The UI could be a little bit more polished and faster.
The F2P scheme is hopefully not too restrictive. Already had to wait a little bit to continue playing, which isn't that bad. Didn't have any stone drops though, which work as the currency and are used to repair your spirits etc. They are also needed to summon stronger spirits.
If stones are completely behind the paywall, then the stronger spirits are also behind it. This would be unacceptable for me.

If I get an extra, I'll figure out how to send it your way. Yeah there is a lot of loading in-between menus. For a game like this I wouldn't expect those kind of load times.

If I didn't know better, you would have just sold me on a game.

I'm still torn over whether to relive my nostalgic high school years playing FFX on Vita (I enjoyed it, but never finished it), or diving into something new entirely like Persona 4... Do we have a date for FFX yet?

There is no release date yet for FFX in the west. Although since it is coming out at the end of December in Japan, it is fairly safe to assume a late January / early February release for it here. So feel free start playing P4G at ease. You've got plenty of time.

Close to purchasing hotline Miami, especially with the sale price. But feels like it might be a plus game soon for the EU store.
And the refresh of the two annual plus games can't be too far away. Hmmmm.

and I was going to try not buying anymore games til the PS4 launches
You should just buy it, they said it won't be on Plus for a while, and even if it is, it's still worth the small price, and you'll support the devs.

I only played the tutorial, but I figured there would be some kind of energy that recharged over time and is needed for battles. Is this not the case?

I might be missing something but as far as I'm aware, it's the HP of your spirits. You also have to wait a half hour for a spirit to revive, I believe, if it runs out of HP.
But if you take no damage from a battle, I don't see what's stopping you from grinding it. Then again they might add more limitations later.
At the very least I see them nerfing the drop rate or removing it from replayed battles so all you get is the 12/12.

There are some spirits that you can get with the white stones, but dunno about the orange ones.

White stones = Normal Summoning
Orange (Destiny Orbs) = Superior Summoning

"Normal" Spirits are exclusive* to normal Summoning.
"Superior" Spirits are exclusive to Superior Summoning.

If you go to the page where you choose between Summon, Superior Summon, and Limited Summon, you can touch the option above the circles/compass to see what spirits are obtainable with each type of summon.

*I said exclusive, but normal Spirits can also be obtained from battles and hunting. I'm not sure but there seems to be Battle-exclusive and Hunt-exclusive spirits, too.

So far, I've got Fire Rat (China origin) from a Battle and it's not on Normal Summoning. Then there's also Yukionna that I've seen from a friend and she was obtained from Hunt. Like I said before, though, spirits can be added in normal Summoning if you beat them as bosses (in areas where there's no minion battles).

Feng Shui tip:

1. Go to Profile, face the direction with best luck.
2. Play the game while facing that direction. (At least do summoning in this direction.)
3. ????
4.
It's Feng Shui! Don't ask me if it has any actual effect

So I found Arkham: Origins Blackgate via search on PSN. Want it, but dunno whether to get the download or get it physically. Download away all you digital people.

Thanks for the info. I'm in no rush to get either, but a relaxing Christmas time with something fresh like P4G would sure be nice.

Destiny of Spirits isn't too bad for a free to play game. I'm enjoying it, but I can see myself getting bored of it eventually due to it not having that addicting element that keeps me coming back to it and want to play more.

I'd get it digitally if it wasn't more expensive than retail in Aus.

Destiny of Spirits: Does anybody know what Speed does? I'm not sure if it relates to the speed in which your attack meter fills up (my speed buffs don't seem to change this much) or if it actually means where your meter starts at in battle (my highest speed unit attacking very shortly in a fight) which isn't too useful in long fights.
Also not sure how long it takes to heal. I really hope it isn't a single heal at 24H intervals.

I've read some impressions about Tearaway in a spanish website. It says it has a fairly good chance of being the best Media Molecule title to date. I'm ready for some N64 goodness xD

Just throwing this out there - devil's advocate style:

Many people have been saying that games like Batman and Lego Marvel on vita have sufferered due to the co-development between vita and 3DS...

Well, there is no way these games would have been made for the vita if the devs were dealing with the vita's install base alone.

Perhaps we're lucky to have the 3DS association?

The problem is not the 3DS association. I wish Lego games were a 3DS up-port.

But the leading platform is the NDS. Ask people that has played the PSP Lego games and the new Vita ones. They'd say you it's a very big downgrade.

I'm not sure if it's been mentioned but Guacamelee is being offered as a bonus PS+ freebie as of today (in the EU at least).

There seems to be a bit of a delay though, it's still marked up at £5something but it's worth keeping your eyes peeled.

I see that you guys are playing destiny of spirits, for some reason my download stops at a certain point, maybe it's because i have no space? But i thought that vita allocates space before downloading!

Another bunch of impressions on vk3 incoming!
Man it's really addictive(at least if you can appreciate it i guess), i have the impression of having just started playing... but i'm already 8 hours in, i have a 7 members clan(=party) with decent equipment, 3 members at level 10, many side quest done and some story missions too lol... Maybe it's because 2(of the 3) locked races(7 in total) are still locked, or maybe because all the 13(THIRTEEN) locked classes(20 in total) are still locked, or maybe because i can't go that far away from the castle because enemies are too strong(i was almost killed by a group of stupid and weak kobolds in the second or third area so...)

Anyway i have finally understood the function of the girls in shops, the shops in the slums are exactly like the shops in the other games, in the (red?)light district instead you have to pay a girl to serve you but she offers more equipments and most importantly she has sales!
Example:
If i go to a certain girl that costs 700 money then i can have more than 50% off the best weapons she have, the second most powerful weapon costs 3500, the most powerful 1800! You can imagine how much you can save! For me that i like searching for the best offers(in the real life) this is a really intriguing aspect.
Well when you spend a lot there's the naughty stuff, but who cares.
Why i haven't read of this anywhere? To be honest there are lots of things that i haven't seen(i'm only 8 hours in and i can already see 2 new settings, and vita has the screenshot function, where are their shots?) or read(like what are the locked jobs) anywhere, ... Mmmmm...

169MB? Try letting it sit for a long while. I put mine in sleep mode if that matters.

Less than 2 weeks having a vita and it developed some horrible black patches. I would be fine with spots, but these where solid lines all around the edge and another going across the screen near the center (I know black spots are unavoidable but this was ridiculous).

Well I asked for an exchange and but they didn't have another in stock, so got a refund instead... I 100% want another one (because vitas are awesome), although I am unsure whether to wait for the 2000 and have an inferior screen (but probably no black lines/spots) or take a risk and get another current vita....

What you guys think?

damn Wipeout got boring fast...good graphics as all but just too repetitive and no rewards...
Im glad it was on PSN Plus for free. I was about to buy it

Hotline Miami is pretty fun and hard....lots of restarts. I dont get the story though but whatever, fun gameplay

Getting a perfect lap on rapier/phantom is one of the most rewarding things in a game I have ever experienced.

Imo you had bad luck, mine is still fine(i play all days since d1) but if you really are not sure about the oled just buy the 2k model, the screen is way inferior but the battery lasts longer...
For me returning from the oled to the lcd is unthinkable though.

Destiny of Spirits is already starting to get repetitive. My hunt for Puzzle & Dragons on the Vita continues.
what's so special about puzzle & dragons?
Have you tried puzzle quest for psp(6€ iirc)?

So I went digital only with Vita games for a while. I bought a 32gb card out of the gate, so I only picked up a few physical games here and there during big sales...but now my attitude is completely swinging in the other direction for retail titles. I picked up Killzone, Rayman Legends, and now Batman Blackgate all on retail carts. I just loving having the cases on my shelf next to all my other game cases. Going through the same transition with my
3DS
as well.

Anyone else with me here?

Not exactly but I realized that I won't buy another 35€ download title that I am not 100% sure. Killzone Vita just isn't 100% my Cup of tea, would be glad now if I could trade it in and buy something different. I have no problem buying 15€ titles as a download, but 35 is just too much if I don't like it.

Still I am very happy that I bought Soul Sacrifice as download game. I like that one so much, would have been a pain in the a** if I would need to switch the cards everytime I play that.

I'll post here for the Vitamuffins first, but if anyone is still wanting a Destiny of Spirits code, PM me. I'm not going to have any time to try it out, so better someone gets use out of it.

Edit: code taken

Edit2: oh hey! no longer a Junior. :D

I'm experiencing the exact same thing.
Decided to go full digital on 3DS for over a year, but I find myself re-buying physical copies of them. Same with the Vita. I have quite a lot of PS+ games already, yet I've re-bought a lot of them as physical copies and will continue to do so. I'm even buying import copies of game that get digital only releases here...

It just feels a lot nicer having them this way. Must be an old-school thing I guess. ;)

For some game, I still go digital though. Mario Kart and Animal Crossing for example due to the constant playtime they get.
Just too convenient to not do so.

P&D is a monster-collecting puzzle RPG that allows you to move orbs all around the board instead of moving orbs one space at a time to make matches and multiple combos. I used to enjoy Puzzle Quest back in the days, but every almost other match-3 feels simple and boring now. Here's a video if you're interested: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VxbngPgb1uQ

The audio pop in the menu music for DoS is driving me mental. Same with the battle music, though it has no pop, its annoying as hell.

Game seems really boring and limited.

Recently purchased a Vita. My first handheld since I had a GBC some 15 years ago.

One of my biggest fears was that the controls, and especially the analog sticks, would be lackluster for any sort of finesse gaming.

After playing through Hotline Miami that fear is completely alleviated.

What a fantastic game. What a brilliant little machine.

I'm a believer.

i didn't get to try the beta out last night

but you guys are making it sound like one of those limited fun-per-day games or you have to pay money

this thing couldn't get deleted fast enough if thats the case

I'm not really seeing a good and sensible objective that provides fun in it. Every half hour your minions get healed up, so I just go ham and bash through every battle with brute force to get the map cleared of fights. And if everyone dies? So what! I can come back later and do the same thing again.

It feels cheap and like there isn't any strategy, because all that matters is just making sure you have the right elements to counter the possible enemy elements.

If Sony keeps the experience fresh by updating the game regularly with new content and giving away the premium currency every few weeks or so like Gungho does for P&D, then the game could have some lasting appeal. Otherwise it'll be like Toro's Friend Network. You'll enjoy it for a week, and then you'll probably never touch it again.

Get/raise as many Spirits as possible. The more spirits you have the more you can play. The only limiting factor is their HP.

So yeah, spend those Destiny Orbs on getting more spirit capacity (10 orbs = 5 spirit slots).

Problem, though is that there's really nothing in the game. Defeat spirits, defeat bosses, collect spirits, defeat more spirits, defeat more bosses, collect more spirits, get friends from time to time, defeat much more spirits, defeat much more bosses, collect much more spirits.

Anyways, I haven't started using Superior Summoning (Destiny Orbs/orange orbs) since I'm waiting for a better luck/element in the next two days. If no preferable luck/element comes out, then I'll go spam them out since the Close Beta will wipe out data anyways. I don't like Kuro/Shiro, but they're strong.

You should rinse Superior Summoning and hope for a vampire character wielding a sword. They've got a special attack that does a guaranteed 1000 damage. Makes every boss a complete haha-holocaust.

Games out next week, according to the PS Blogcast:

Proteus
..

So buying this. Gives me C64 vibes...if the C64 could handle 3D open world games.

Also, I was annoyed by the KZ: Shadow Fall interview from that episode where they talk about how Shadow Fall is the "first time" players will get to experience the conflict from both sides, as if KZ: Mercenaries didn't exist.
