"Lots of PS4 game reviews coming in the next two weeks but not Xbone"

This is why I dislike him. Completely baseless shit right there, what was your source on that stuff Arthur? Shit like that is unacceptable anywhere, but he gets away with it on RebelFM.

To be fair, he prefaces those comments by saying "I haven't heard this from anyone, but this is my own conjecture..."

The problem is that it's difficult to tell where the bullshit starts and stops over the course of a couple minutes of several people talking. Did someone actually tell you there is going to be a "price war" on DDR5 RAM, or are you just imagining that as well too?

All the condescending comments in RebelFM is why I stopped listening. It used to be Arthur mostly then somehow it started spreading to the rest of them.

I gave up on Rebel FM about a year ago, had been listening since the very beginning. I feel like once Nick Suttner and Phil Kollar left, the show slowly started heading downhill, Arthur started getting more condescending as the show went on. No idea why, but his attitude on the show totally started to change.

One time since then I really enjoyed listening to him and seeing him doing something game related since then was when him and Ryan Davis did that Kinectimals quick look. That combination totally worked, he was like the straight man there. Man. :/

I guess the time to triangle stuff Cerny was talking about is legit and that it just takes less time to make a optimized game compared to xbone

@aegies Do you think the Xbox One development will be similar to development on the PS3 (Xbox One use of the esRAM and PS3 Cell)?

@bosjbug esRAM is almost singlehandedly responsible for ... things, at launch. or so i hear. tools are already much better.

@aegies @bosjbug "things" as in poor performance which is improved due to better tools now, or helping performance?

@ChazTyldsley @bosjbug : X

.

The problem is that his conjecture was all wrong because he's an idiot. He doesn't have an ounce of credibility on the subject of gaming. Honestly, Polygon need to move him on before he kills the website's credibility with his bias towards MS.

Didn't Uncharted 3 sell 4-5m? Not being funny but this guy being in a job like that is a blatant piss take. We all have our preferences but in a position he has you would at the very least expect some sort of professionalism. There is fuck all apart from the impression of a obnoxious know it all type with the cheek to cry foul when people pull him up on his antics you would expect from a kid.

As I said earlier, $499 is a lot of money for a lot gamers and all this "I know negative stuff but I'm not saying" is not on at all. Either shut up or fuck off.

I think the entire point of him bringing up PS4 versions getting reviewed was for damage control purposes. He knows it looks bad for XB1, so he wanted to try and make it sound not so bad.

Sure, but does stating you are providing baseless conjecture make it any more worth my time?

Well, it is in exchange for early copies/builds of games. Embargoes are completely understandable in this context.

It's not like they're buying the games themselves after the game launches.

I completely get it, especially as they don't want to lost that by getting blacklisted...but damn is it annoying.

Normal Person: The sky is blue.

Arthur Gies: There's a vocal minority saying that the sky is blue and not green. Sure.

NP: What? The sky is clearly blue.

AG: I'm so glad that the hyperbolic Internet really thinks that the sky will be blue tomorrow.

NP: Why "tomorrow"?

AG: Can't say anymore. GAF is probably already melting down.

NP: Well yeah, because the sky is blue and not green.

AG: If you're an entitled Pokemon Blue fanboy who can't accept green.

NP: What? I never even mentioned...

AG: We'll see. Maybe. You might be surprised.

THE NEXT DAY

NP: Sky's still blue, brah.

AG: Is it? (link to photo of grass)

NP: That's grass. Do you know what "the sky" is?

AG: I know what your harassing buddies insist the sky is, and bully anyone who says otherwise. Blocked.

I still listen, but I can understand why people wouldn't. The thing with Nick was that he leaned more towards Sony (obviously does now) and he balanced things out. Was like Luke Smith and Shane Bettenhausen going at it on 1UP Yours back then. If someone is pretty blatantly a fan of one side, it helps when someone is there from the other side to call you out on it. Now, it's pretty much a bunch of guys that pretty much agree with each other on everything. So when Arthur goes off on these tangeants over how he doesn't see why "Sony fanboys" think he has a vendetta against their console, nobody calls him out on his past statements. Typically it's worded more like "Well I reviewed this latest Playstation exclusive, and it's just not that good. It's only average, but of course, I hate it because Sony made it.. Right?"

Yea that's why I was asking you in thw other thread. IT will be a horrible port. And maybe Watch Dogs was delayed cause of Xbone??
I'm happy for the Watch_Dog delay. Perhaps they can polish the visuals to an acceptable standard - that game looked worse and worse on each showing.

This is eerily accurate.

That would be me asking about poor performance! *waves*

Appreciate the fact he's trying to answer questions honestly, just a shame his hands are tied. It's a fairly frustrating experience for us consumers with the console preorder situation and lack of info in some areas.

Rings true, except there need to be more reference to the "popular narrative."

holy shit

This is why you only ever trust reviews from sites who have to buy the consoles and games themselves, and don't rely on advertising.

The sky isn't blue. It appears blue due to Rayleigh scattering of sunlight by atmospheric particles.

:p

Pretty much. I actually know people that are like Gies. They always like to argue with people just to argue and you always get a sense there is some deeper kind of resentment towards others. They (including Gies) always seem like they have a chip on their shoulder. This kind of person is insufferable to be around for more than twenty minutes.

This is astoundingly accurate lol. Nice observational humour here.

Gies was the reason I stopped listening to the Joystiq podcast back in the day.

Gies was the reason I never gave Polygon a chance.

He's truly awful. I approve of a thread getting derailed into Gies-bashing.

Attention seeking click baiting unnecessary teasing.

"PS4 this Xbox that, I won't tell you why but it's not what you think."

I have probably only known about this guy for a year, but it seems his attitude is in a very negative place. This is just an observation, but it is annoying.

Same. Gies is the reason I don't click on any polygon links.

So the actual reason is that Ubi is not giving out XB1 copies for review and EA wants them to review the PC version of BF4. He could have said that in the first place. That kind of thing has been happening for years now, it's nothing new.

Ah Arthur Gies. One of the many reasons the gaming journalism industry is in the toilet. Everyone's got their preferences, but at least he could stop making a fool of himself.

Knowing what we know I'd say you are as close to being 100% correct as one can get here.

Currently he's not wrong about The Last of Us not out-selling Uncharted. Weren't the last numbers around the 3 million mark? Still not anywhere near the stupid 500k number he mentioned though.

The game sold 3.4 million worldwide in the first 3 weeks.

Ironically one of the lowest scores the game received was from Polygon, where Arthur Gies is the reviews editor. ;)
