x-copy from programming thread:

I have a question for those of you who work out in California as developers. If you don't mind sharing, and I understand if you don't, how much are you making out there? What languages are you working on, how many years you have been developing and where do you live? I really would like to move out to Cali one day but am curious as to how much of a bump in salary would I need in order to do a lateral movement and then get the 20% increase for getting a new job.

PMs would be appreciated as well.

Thanks!

If your job title indeed has "Developer" somewhere in it (i.e excluding IT, test etc) and you're not making 100k AT LEAST in the bay area, you're being taken for a wonderful ride. People will trip over their dicks to make you an offer better than that in the environment there right now. But you have to be a legit developer with either previous experience or from a known CS school, that's all.

Also 100k does not go as far in the bay area as the rest of the country due to the absolutely crazy ass real estate and rent prices.

I don't say bro a lot but, I don't think I am one. I don't think I have met one.

Oh wait, I play COD every now and then with my friends, does that make me a brogrammer? I play AAA games too, and I own a prius and a cube. But, I like Fast and the Furious movies.

My god

I know a few, they're really unlikable and have their little brogrammer clique.

I exercise and have an attractive girlfriend but I'm not some frat punk.

Mobile and web programmers.... You don't see that shit in defense.....mostly because everyone is eight thousand years old. What am i doing with my life??

Brogrammers are just beta in real life around everyone else. But when they get surrounded by other beta "brogrammers" because finally in Uni they were told "they have some value" and are not the total losers that everyone before said they were. So now they try to over compensate by becoming bros forever yearning to be like those who used to kick their ass and get all the girls.

Neither here nor there brogrammers are kind of like the hyena who crawls into the skin of a dead lion. They can cover their loserness all they want but inside they will still be losers.

Salty.

I guess I wouldn't care if the guys I worked with were brogrammers. Assuming they did their job correctly. I'm more irritated by people who are delusional about their level of skill, fresh out of the oven. Just admit that you don't know everything, and try to learn.

I can program (sort of) I work in IT currently, go to the gym 6 days a week (getting back into shape) I used to be in decent shape, my younger brother said I was the most jock looking computer nerd he ever saw.

So maybe at one point. I have no game....

I was in a frat in college, and shotgunned natty light though, do they still make natty light?

Maybe it's confirmation bias, but a ton of dudes that work out are geeks. A ton. I swear you have better chance you can get someone to help you with computer shit at a college gym than anywhere else.
