I have a question for those of you who work out in California as developers. If you don't mind sharing, and I understand if you don't, how much are you making out there? What languages are you working on, how many years you have been developing and where do you live? I really would like to move out to Cali one day but am curious as to how much of a bump in salary would I need in order to do a lateral movement and then get the 20% increase for getting a new job.

If your job title indeed has "Developer" somewhere in it (i.e excluding IT, test etc) and you're not making 100k AT LEAST in the bay area, you're being taken for a wonderful ride. People will trip over their dicks to make you an offer better than that in the environment there right now. But you have to be a legit developer with either previous experience or from a known CS school, that's all.

Also 100k does not go as far in the bay area as the rest of the country due to the absolutely crazy ass real estate and rent prices.

But when they get surrounded by other beta "brogrammers" because finally in Uni they were told "they have some value" and are not the total losers that everyone before said they were. So now they try to over compensate by becoming bros forever yearning to be like those who used to kick their ass and get all the girls.
