While the game has been panned by critics, your posts have me intrigued. What does combat feel like?
Hard to gauge from tube vids.
First of all the controls:

In battle the cross is for normal attacks, triangle for specific actions(defense if you have a shield, heavy trowing punch for the akatoki etc), circle for running, R for locking, dpad and L+ dpad let you use 8 slots for items/skills/magic/commands/taunts.
The more you hit the more the experience, 10hit combos(don't expect "combos" like in fighting games lol) give you a 1.2x experience multiplier, 20hit 1.5x(iirc), 50hit 2x.

With select you can change the character in your control and square is for throwing(i guess there are locked classes that use trowing weapons, i'm almost sure that ninja and shurikens are in, or maybe it's for the bow? lol)
In the field there are roaming clan leaders(their comrades appear when the fight begin) and monsters(they are all in the field instead) but the rule is that they don't attack you even if you go near(sometimes even if you hit them lol), it's really weird but it's really convenient at the same time because you don't have to avoid enemies and you can make only the fights you want.
When you attack a clan leader the fight begins and his comrades appear.
If you have the right timing you can make up to 10 consecutive hits, if you fill a meter then all the clan(the party) is powered and you can do 10 hits without caring about the timing, everything applies to the enemies too! In fact there are some bonus and malus if you kill the enemy leader before the others.
With the dpad(and L+dpad) you can order to attack or defend, taunt to attract enemies(and to save a comrade in danger) use items, skills and magic.
No matter the result fights are really short, less than a minute even when 7 vs 7 and even against a single strong boss, i have never used mages or archer in fights so i don't know about them, but with melee characters i say that it feels like a dynasty warriors with less people.
The game has objectively its dose of faults so i don't know if you'll like it, but if its faults don't bother you then vk3 can be extremely addictive imo.
