Finally finished the game. Here's some initial impressions:

Disliked:
-HMs are still a thing. I swear I must have surfed like 3 times and used strength once to beat the game. Just fucking get rid of them already, or give them the same characteristics as TMs. It's ridiculous at this point.

I don't get why they don't just separate it into something like Field Machines (FM) and TM's.

Field Machines would just be all of the stuff you can use outside of Battle, (Sweet Scent, Fly, Surf, Rock Smash, etc), while TM's are only usable in battle. They would both be able to be removed, just it's split up for simplicity.

Sure. My FC is 2836-0194-8979. I've added you

I do kinda feel bad about having three friends with Ditto safaris now though :P

added you

i also have multiple people with ditto in their safari lol

Edit: Where's the cafe that does rotation battles? I need to grind EXP to evolve pokes for the dex

-The giant town. Like in Black/White, it's cool in theory, but shitty and unfun in execution. The camera gets all weird and... it's just too big.

These two I agree with. Though these must be the first impressions I've read not talking about the unfortunate framerate drops (in 2d and 3d). That would probably be on the top of my caveats.

No seriously. Fuck this. The first ragenrola had everstone, so I got it 20 seconds into this nonsense and was like "OK that was easy" and fled the battle. Fucking everstone wasn't in my bag. Seriously, I have to knock them out? So now I'm stuck here just trying to find another with it, getting blinded by Goddamn sand because these hordes are Bullshit. Ragenrola single and horde are like the rarest thing in the fucking cave. Fuck me for releasing that Goddamn Gastly

....

Just as I type this, I was, "well maybe fletchinder is holding it."

Just ignore me. =[

People need to stop complaining about HMs and how they function. Imagine Surfing to a secluded island and trading away/deleting your Surf Pokemon/Move.

IMPLEMENT A SURFBOARD INSTEAD!!!

No, these moves allow your Pokemon to interact with the overworld.

Mega-Mawile's Attack can get really high, so it's more of a question about how much EVs you need to put into to KO what you want.
If I understand correctly, Huge Power doubles your EVs in addition to your base stats, so I'm quite tempted to go with a full 252 Attack EV investment. Either way, a full 252 in HP is a must. I just wonder how well Mega Mawile sponges up damage with no EV investment in his defenses.

My Mawile if anyone is interested:

Mawile @ Mawiilite
Intimidate -> Huge Power
Adamant (252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD)
- Rough Play
- Iron Head
- Swords Dance
- Sucker Punch
Have you tested this build? How durable is he? Do you usually survive long enough to get in a Swords Dance plus an Attack? What if the attack isn't Sucker Punch -- is he durable enough to take two hits and strike back?

Why Sucker Punch over Crunch?

Sucker punch bypasses Mawile's low speed.
Yeah, Sucker Punch is a must. Same base power as Crunch, same type, same accuracy, but it has priority, so Sucker Punch hits first despite Mawile's abysmal speed.

I know a guy that is constantly freaking out about how Mega Mawile could be bad.

Never mind the fact that it has one of the best defensive typings in the game if not the best, priority to patch up its Speed and it has around 260 base Attack.
Yes, Mega Mawile has excellent typing, with two immunities and double-resistance to Bug, taking 2X damage only from Fire and Ground -- everything else hits him for half-damage or neutral. His base stat for Defense is well over 100; his base stat for Special Defense is just shy of 100. The question is, is that enough to keep him durable without EV investment in those categories. Can I go 252 HP / 252 Attack / 6 Sp. Def and live to tell the tale? I'd have to imagine that if I can survive one turn to get in a Swords Dance, and then priority Sucker Punch first thing next turn, he'd OHKO most of the competition thanks to Huge Power...

You had to use surf twice and strength once to progress, much better than in any other generation.

but if I had to rank gens:
GSC>RBY>BW>XY>RSE>DPPT>B2W2

For me it would be;

DPPT/BW=XY/B2W2/GSC/RSE=RBY

I'm going to start creating a competitive team for the first time, would one Pokemon (different types obvs) from each generation bee a good place to start? I'm assuming there is decent Pokemon in each generation. Dragonite from the first probably

Why is it so important that HMs fill this function? Why is it important that they do this at all?
I don't know, we live in a Pokemon world?
The sense of Pokemon helping us in our journey other than fighting with us?

Maybe you don't like it along with others, but it makes sense.

You only had to use cut once in Black and White and the rest of the HMs were optional.

There are other ways to have the creatures interact with the world than to gate progression with moves that generally gimp your team. They're already everywhere in the world as it is, HMs don't make me feel any more connected to the creatures as helpers - it relegates them to a useless slavery role instead.

How about I can use the moves but don't need to teach it
I have hated the HM slaves since RBY
and it was atrocious during RSE
at least the bullshit Flash light is gone

What EV's do I want for a Mega Charizard X and a Mega Ampharos? (Also if anyone could reccomend a good nature for the Ampharos)

I checked Smogen but wasn't sure if the type changes for these two in Mega form would also change the desirable EVs.

Yup

I suck at making beds, confirmed.

The EV/IV? Guy says my Dragonair from the friend safari has outstanding potential, In HP, Attack and Sp Def that sounds good but i have a feeling Sp attack would be better

Note how GameFreak did the riding the Rhyhorn and Mamoswine in the over world. They are figuring out how to deal with the HM system without having to cripple your team.

My guess in future games Game Freak will give you a Pokémon in the over world to use for your HM needs should you not have a Pokémon in your team knowing a HM move.

at least the bullshit Flash light is gone

Flash help me catch Mewtwo. :)

I too have always hated HMs. They feel like you have to sacrifice the usefulness of your Pokemon for some arbitrary reason.

I know that feeling, I hated how you needed Rock Climb in the Gen 2 remake or Flash in the original just to trek through Mt. Sliver just so I could fight Red.

Worse part is that none of this Pokémon knows those move so it was an unfair fight.

At least retire Cut. Gotdam!

Or at least buff it, hell HM wouldn't be so bad if they were better.

Only Surf, Waterfall and now Defog are good.

Technically, Huge Power just doubles the actual stat value. So if Mega-Mawile has it's Attack stat displayed as 172, but the actual Attack stat is calculated as 344.

There were 3 people running around in circles in one hallway and a table blocking a path in another. This is stupid.

So how do they make you feel more connected to them, when you don't even see them outside of a brief cutaway? They never appear on the overworld interacting with it - all they do is provide some power to the avatar, who can then move boulders or glide across water.

The riding Pokemon are far more involved in the world than anyone on your team.

I think what got me is that person that takes too long at the entrance of one of the rooms. He slowly walks into the room and slowly walks out.

Other than that, I think I hate the missing item one the most.

So what I said is true then, right? Huge Power takes your total Attack stat, and doubles it. That means all the EVs you put into that Attack stat are also doubled. Every four EVs = 1 extra point in that stat, so investing 252 Attack EVs for 63 extra attack points becomes 504 EVs for 126 extra attack points.

The riding is more akin to a service.
YOU aren't going to feel more connected to them. YOU in particular because that is your mindset. There are people that DO however. It makes no sense to incorporate your Pokemon using the moves with their likeliness because some are just ridiculous.

Flying on Spearow pic goes here VVVV

The only HMs I'd want to keep are Cut, Strength, and Surf.

I would feel weird without them in a Pokémon game, no matter how annoying they may get for people.

The other HMs can go to hell, real talk.

Whats the fastest way to evolve a pokemon through max happiness. My togepi doesn't wanna evolve for anything in the world despite winning every battle and having soothe bell and getting a massage

Mamoswine had actual involvement with the plot, and was far more developed in the story than any individual Pokemon not named Xerneas or Yveltal.

You can keep saying it's just my mindset, but you've yet to provide an example of how HMs do that for anyone but yourself - and your explanation, as far as I can tell, is that they just *do*. And if the moves are that ridiculous, I don't really see why they should exist when they serve just as much purpose distancing myself from the world.

There's examples of them involving Pokemon more and more into the world, and what I'm really curious about is why exploring that kind of interaction shouldn't be prioritized over HMs.

Oh. I must have read it wrong. You have it right.

Qualot berries are made by crossing Pecha and Oran berries. They lower defense EV and increase friendliness. There are other berries with similar effects, but I haven't grown those yet.
