Rumor: Nexus 5 to launch at $299(16GB), $399(32GB, 2300mAh battery)

Yep. We will see a slight bump in price here in Canada.

P.S. So has the bigger battery rumour on the 32 GB model been confirmed or denied yet?

The only reason Google did that was to clear out inventory for the Nexus 5, so don't count on it until the Nexus 6 gets close to release.
well I'm not counting on it. Things not to count on when it comes to google: timely release, no shipping problems, price parity, etc...

still hyped.

Can a mod change the thread title.

It should be "...starts at 349 (16GB?) and 399 (32GB?)" according to the latest info.

We've lived with a 300mAh battery for this long, might as well wait until the damn thing comes out to change it.

How has this not been announced yet ? What are they waiting for ? Apple just announced their second event for more products revelations; you'd think Google would get the ball rolling or something. No ?

It could be a few things: waiting for stock from LG, trying to get out of the way of said Apple events, waiting until closer to Halloween, waiting until KitKat was done, planning to show more than the nexus 5 (rumored watch or Glass 2.0), etc.

to hell with the N5, if the watch is as awesome as I'm hoping for, that's the one for me

Looking at this sounds like a sweet phone, one issue with me is I don't mind going under contract for the discount, anyone know if it can be for Sprint?

Reddit: Why the ~700 mAh difference between the G2 and Nexus 5 isn't nearly as big as it seems.

The G2 still uses average power tracking for the power amplifiers. The Nexus 5, going by the leaked service manual, uses envelope tracking. That alone is going to be a huge power savings on LTE, and will go a long way in making up the ~25% battery size deficit.

Oh, and the screen is smaller in area, and the envelope tracking technology applies to WCDMA/GSM/cellular technology, although the gains there aren't nearly as significant due to the more consistent power curve.

Anyone that shrugs off the significant power efficiency gains that these changes bring are effectively measuring battery life purely by mAh, which is an incredibly shallow analysis when the iPhone 5S continues to sit right near the top of any reasonably objective battery life test.

Unknown. But speculation says it'll have LTE. Not sure if it'll run on Sprints LTE though. But seeing that T-Mobile charged more money for the Nexus 4, compared to the cost of it on Google Play, I'd feel like there's no benefit to a "discount" under a contract. Buying it straight up is the best move.

That's what I did with my Nexus 4, and the guys at a T-Mobile store looked at me all confused when I bought a case and told them I don't have a T-Mobile account, yet have a N4 on Straight Talk.

The reason I ask is because i'm due for an upgrade and I was looking at the Note and LG2, my current phone is run-down, barely holds a charge and still uses Sprints old 4G network.

Edit: Spec-wise, the LG2 looks exactly the same as the nexus 5 but with a larger battery.

N5 looks to be going to Sprint.

I think so too but just a question, why not just get the LG2 which looks to be exactly the same but with a larger battery?

Stock Android. Probably the sole reason to get an N5 over its almost identical cousin. It's up to you if you favor the bigger battery and better camera over stock. Stock is kinda losing its edge because Google started to update the core apps by piece meal. But still great not having to worry about getting an update or not, and no bloatware.

Edit- Also the price tag. Unlocked phone at $350 is insane. And you won't get locked down for another 2 years with Sprint (or whoever).

I actually don't mind the contract($200 for LG2). Sprint has been pretty good to me for a while. I do appreciate your opinion on the matter.

It has Sprint‘s LTE bands, and no other US carrier uses the same LTE bands as Sprint.

I understand that just I don't mind the contract for Sprint and having pretty much the same phone as the Nexus 5 sans the stock.

Edit: After looking at it more closely, the software for the LG2 seems to be less than desirable.

Uhm, I... I actually like it.
Like, a lot.

I've had all-black phones for ages now, so if it turned out to be like this one above... I wouldn't mind going for something different for once.

Good, the Nexus 4 is a great phone and shouldn't be pulled only after one year because a new model is coming out.

Keep it on the market and give consumers a choice.

I don't think manufacturers would be too happy if they kept a $250-300 nexus around though...

Google is killing me with this phone! I've been waiting to upgrade my ailing iPhone 4, I'm close too just going with the Note 3 but the price on the Nexus 5 is just too good! Announce it Google and take my money!

That black and white render looks awesome, but I'm concerned that the white backing would become dingy as hell!

So more rumours.

Nexus 5 release date rumours: Google Play on October 31st, Canadian carriers on November 8th

nexus5press.png

Though the regularly-leaked Nexus 5 was rumoured to be released mid-October, the latest is that we’ll see it arrive at the end of the month. A couple press images surfaced online, one sporting a TELUS logo and the other straight from Google.

We’ve been tipped that Google will make the Nexus 5 available via Google Play on Thursday, October 31st, then arrive on Canadian carriers — Rogers, Bell, TELUS, Koodo and Virgin — up to 8 days later, either November 7th or 8th.

Of course, these dates are all unconfirmed until Google and LG officially announce the device.

More soon!
(Thanks tipsters!)

Please be true! I still believe. Mobilsyrup is a pretty reputable Canadian site, so I hold a glimmer of hope.

Don't make me stay with this damn Atrix any longer google. I'm getting more and more depressed every day.

Sorry I haven't kept up with this thread so if this has been asked feel free to flame me into oblivion.

I currently have an S3 with Tmobile but would interested in getting this phone. Would I be able to purchase it and take it to tmobile to use on their network for LTE?

Thanks

yup

The latest rumor says Google might finally start selling devices directly from Google Play instead of through brick-and-mortar shops in Scandinavia. Whether that's true matters to me far more than the specifics of whatever they are about to launch, because the device pricing so far has been ridiculous.

Up to now, Nexus phones have cost 600e = $830 at launch and then dropped a bit over time. Today's price for the Nexus 4 is 370e = $510. I think Nexus 10 launched at 700e and it's still 600e today.

For my part, the features I want the most are a practical camera (taking usable photos and video in low light, fast movement and shaky conditions), and as much battery life as possible.
