Super Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS Thread 3: Ridley's Believe It or Not!

She got it right. I'm pretty sure that they did that because console is a category that they strongly believe that they should play with friends at home rather than playing online with friends. Awhile you have handheld where you can't really share it with other people, hence online and wifi.

It's a Japanese culture thing I think. I mean ideally I would like to have my friends all over the world jump into my room BLUESCADOOWECANTOO! but USA is just much bigger and people live a lot further.

I thought Mario Kart Wii's online was alright?

Question because I never played online in it.

Mario Kart online is the best online on the system, but do a comparison for how many games have Wi-Fi on the DS compared to Wii and you'll see. Also, their handheld systems usually tend to have much more robust options in terms of online and networking compared to their consoles.

It's kind of funny to think about, so this is more of a joke, but Luigi's Mansion 3DS has online before Mario 3D World. They care more about online on their handhelds.

Wii Sports Club launches next week, I think. MK8 is probably spring.

Actually the majority of Nintendo's Wii U games have had online integration, but it's all been through Miiverse so far.

Jokes on you sunshines cos I bagsied the first SMash U/3DS tournament thread and I'm making the whole thing a taunt off.

Luigi's taunt vs Luigi's taunt

Yeah, but I mean it's been almost 12 months and now we are finally getting our first Nintendo game on Wii U with online multiplayer. Miiverse integration is pretty cool though, don't get me wrong.

It really irritates me how little online there is on the Wii U for first party games right now, especially since they did the right thing and replace FCs with NNIDs... After a year, and there's still no online multiplayer first party Wii U game... unless that Wii Sports HD remake is coming very soon?

Nintendo pls :(

Online itself was good, so it's one of the few exceptions. Although I've heard hackers pretty much took over the game, which is a shame.

Yeah, I agreed with you there. Wii Sport Club is coming so soon. Nov 7!

JOKE ON YOU, Anthony already called for it FIRST.

Yep, I know. I have a bad feeling that Sakurai would't let Namco-Bandai to helping them out with it. Just knowing Nintendo and Sakurai, they would rather us to give up with terrible online mode and playing with friends in person because it meant to be!

guys, guys, theres more nintendo games besides brawl that has online, I recommend you play them.

Although it's weird, it kind of makes sense when you think about it using Nintendo Logic™. Handheld games tend to be solitary affairs by design (outside of Japan, at least), since local multiplayer games are limited to how many systems you can collect together in a room. Sometimes it even requires multiple copies of the games! Which is generally useless. So online is perfect for handheld games. The barrier to entry for local multiplayer console games is much lower. You just need controllers. Console games also lend themselves much better to the "family" or "party" experience, as everyone sits on a couch and looks at the same screen.

That and Kid Icarus!

If someone many years ago told me we were going to get a Kid Icarus and Luigi's Mansion sequel with online multiplayer BEFORE a platformer Mario with online, I wouldn't believe them at all. lol

I main Snake's taunt with his box that can hurt you.
oh snap

That's fitting because not only is it the Year of Luigi, it's also Year of snake!

Yeah, I agreed with you there. Wii Sport Club is coming so soon. Nov 7!
Hopefully the online is good.

Name them please?

I played Brawl and Mario Kart Wii the most out of all nintendo games that I owned. Mario Striker is pretty impressive but I don't really play the game that much tho. I'm trying to remember other games.

I mean I can understand all this back during the Gamecube era and such, but technology has advanced to where stuff like this is considered the 'norm'. It's much easier to do this stuff these days, but it's also that the way we, the consumer, see consoles a bit differently. I see consoles as the de facto experience. I'm not going to sit here and say "handhelds arent true gaemz lul" as a lot of handheld games blow console games out of the park, but when it comes to hardware and software, I generally want the more powerful machine to make use of that power in this day and age. I also don't want every single game to have online play, I just think games like Mario 3D World could really benefit from it. I'd like to play 3D World with qq more, but I'd have to fly a plane just to do that. It's games that have multiplayer as one focus and completed is where I can say they can go ahead and add online too. Being able to play with my friends in a non time consuming way is just nice. It's the duty of the company to please the consumer, and I honestly know that online play would make me buy a lot more Nintendo games or sooner than I normally would.

100% agree with this. Online co-op is one of the my favorite features in any video game, and any game that already has local co-op should try to have online play. It'd push me to get it day 1 so I can play with my friends.

It's a shame 3D World isn't having online play, the game looks absolutely fantastic and I'd seriously love to play with friends on that game.

If this happens and the online is crap, the same thing is going to happen as it did with Brawl.

They need to give players a chance to play the game on a large scale so we can bend the game to its full potential, for all types of crowds. If the online is crap for a franchise as huge as Smash, then there's no hope left for the Wii U in my eyes.

Nintendo fans who disagree with this are hurting Nintendo just as much as Nintendo hurting itself.

Not to mention, how many more copies Super Mario 3D World would sell with online coop..

Has there been a first party Nintendo game with shit online since Brawl? The last two mario karts have had pretty great online modes.

Sakurai tends to love stuffing so many modes in his games so I expect the online mode to have much more options this time. I also don't expect Smash Bros. U's netcode to be bad despite the netcode in Brawl.

I think the biggest thing I'd like to see is more co-op modes online.

And while I'm sure the Wii U is going to sell alright this holiday, it'd probably sell even more if 3D World has online co-op. smh Nintendo's stubbornness :(

Come to think of it... no not really but at the same time this isn't saying much because there's hardly online games outside of the usual suspects (Kart, Animal Crossing, Pokemon). I heard Luigi Mansion's online is pretty good.

Also, I seriously wonder... why did they flat out ignore online multiplayer for Star Fox 64 3D when Star Fox Command of all games has it?!?!

Hoping SSB4's adventure mode will have online co-op!

Are we talking Wii/Wii U/3DS games or just nintendo games? For nintendo and just off the top of my head we have Metroid Prime Hunters and Pokemon. For third party games I am always willing to recommend Monster Hunter. And I guess there is also DOA and Street Fighter.

Wii and Wii U. First Party Games.

this was particularly sad. it would've been amazing.

thankfully, I've still managed to get a lot of mileage out of download play, but if it were online I might still play that game regularly.

It was a quick and dirty port and they didn't have enough time to implement online multiplayer. There was an interview around the time of release that said they would've had to delay it half a year and the 3DS was in dire straits and needed every release it could muster at the time.

I don't know why people are worried about the netcode when Kid Icarus, Luigi's Mansion, Animal Crossing, and Pokemon have great online; especially Pokemon.

those games are released on 3DS, so I'm not concerned about SSB3DS. I'm more concerned about Wii U version.

Why? MH3U showed the Wii U has competent internet so it will just boil down to how Nintendo wants to use it. If the Wii U version has bad internet so will the 3DS version.

Isn't it going through capcom's servers? I dont think nintendo controls it, just allows it.

Pokemon... you kind of have to try to make that game's online really bad lol

Kid Icarus seems to be a very good example though, it's far more demanding.

I found MHTri on the wii to have really poor online (people stuttering around if you weren't the host), same with Kid Icarus, though not as bad.

And Animal Crossing, Pokemon, and Luigi are all really slow moving games so I don't know that those are good examples.

If you want a good example of great online on a Nintendo console look to Mario Strikers Charged.

Though I said pretty much the same thing when someone else mentioned Pokemon, the online in X/Y in terms of feature-set is pretty modern and probably has the best online in any Nintendo game. Though netcode isn't really the impressive feat about it.

The focus was on syncing up the big monsters and they only stuttered when you had REALLY bad connection. Not only that but it isn't like fighter games where you could pick someone out of a list who has the best connection. Also most people don't understand how hosting works mid-quest in MH. Instead of it being the room creator or the quest initiator it's actually the person who first enters the zone. The monster will never stutter if you enter the room first but people will.

That's not how Fighting games usually work and definitely not how Brawl worked if I recall correctly?

:O That's really cool, I had no idea.

Yeah to give a better idea of how this works or how it might cause some issues lets use that fighter analogy again. If two other people and yourself are playing and all have that really good "green bar" connection but the 4th person is a "red bar" lag fest you don't want to let him enter the room first. If he beats you in there everyone gets some pretty bad lag but if you or someone else beats him in it will e just him lagging

Edit because I put this in the your quote like a dummy: Well not with the "random" options but it will still tell you how good their connection

I had my first Smash 4 dream

Fox was Melee Fox

Baby Mario was a new character

and Bowser had a new move that resembled Jigglypuff's rollout. It looked like the Goron roll from Majora's Mask, with spikes and shit.

Also I was playing as Fox in a demo they released released on the Wii U eshop. It was December in my dream. Only stage was FD, and the playable characters were Fox, Baby Mario, Mario and Sonic. All I did was drill shine -> wavedash -> up smash Baby Mario.

I guess this is what happens when you stay up til 4:30am waiting for a Dark Souls II demo that never comes

Nothing is ever truly nothing. That emptiness you perceive is simply a construct waiting to be repleted. The week is not empty. It's just not filled.

I totally expect a character reveal this week.
