Episode 15 – Return to Karlstein

This scene then the ed with fun Haruto smiling and L-elf posing, combing with the trying to reach each other hands as they are falling in the sky and back to the kid that looks like their son, really gave it a nice touch
eruharu has to be canon
. Realism also sounds good part closest to the ending. of the ed.

But on a more serious note, H-neun, Q-vier, and everyone else antics in that brief flashback was hilarious and kind of how I imagined them to be, part of me wishes it did last longer, but I guess that will be explored in the other material with the franchise.

Marie part was surprising, I was like is she an AI that was somehow given a free body unlike the current ones, though maybe thats fallacious thinking if others are under the belief that she was one of the first valvrave pilots, oh well

Hmm, there was something with the character art in this episode. The close-ups were all clean and well-defined, with spare tasteful linework for facial features and solid expressions. But the mid and long shots all featured the same typical SD faces, to an almost bothersome degree considering how many there were and how ubiquitous this was. The animation was scarce but correct, with the nice smeary gunfight between L-elf and the dorssians being the highlight. But the layouts were a bit inconsistent in quality, some being up to the level of the show and others feeling a bit weak and misplaced.
In the end, the episode looked mostly good though. Better than some of the late S1 episodes for sure, and I'd say better than the previous one (bar the CG action which I always find hard to remember after the fact).

.... but why does all this matter? that ending man, ERUERUFUUUUUUUUUUUU

@duckroll: I thought
the first scene was implying L-Elf x Akira if anything, the dialogue wouldn't make much sense otherwise

Wait, I saw that part like 5 times. How did you come to that conclusion?

Satomi tells him that his godmother's name is also "Renbokoji". He has to be referring to Saki, since she's the one who's teaching and watching over him. He also addresses her as such. He's clearly not Saki's child, but someone she's watching over. If she changed her family name to Renbokoji, it means she married Satomi.... or Akira. *cough*

The kid is very likely L-Elf's child or descendant, but they've given no hints so far as to who the mother could be.

When did the kid refer to
Saki as his godmother though
?

My train of thought went like this.

Akira is the godmother, that means that the mother is someone that is close to Akira, which really is only Shoko so far. So I immediately thought Shoko x L-Elf.

That said, maybe that royal girl L-Elf met along time ago might end up being the mom since Saki refers to the kid as "your Highness." Then Saki and Satomi does make more sense. Especially if you throw in the fact that Saki seems to be looking over him.

Or maybe I'm just over thinking it. Either way, man it's going to be a blast to see how this show plays off.

When he asks Saki about when they received their "blessing", he referred to them as "kyoubo-tachi". Since he's addressing her, it seems natural that she is his kyoubo and he was asking about the Valvrave pilots. It would be very odd for him to reference a third party who isn't present in this way when talking to Saki, since she herself is also one of the pilots. If she's not the kyoubo in question, he would have used something else, like a more generic "anata-tachi".

Not really a fan of the beginning future bits, they tell too much imo about who lives/dies and the state of the world at the end. Kinda rules out the possibility of a downer ending which is a bit bad.

Otherwise, though I am loving this season so far. Time seems to be shared rather well between the characters, L-Elf is the best mofo this side of Char, twists and plot reveals STILL keep coming. The sense of mystery is stark, and they never write themselves into a corner where they have to pull something from their ass. Instead, everything feels like it is by design, every tit-bit meticulously placed in order to excite the watcher at just the right time.

I'm watching this anime for the plot, I want to know what happens next episode, I was to be left at the edge of my seat wondering what will happen next, rather than knowing that the status quo will remain.

So, did they automatically
learn German when they jacked those agents? We see Saki not even knowing how to greet them when they entered the "settlement" but she speaks it fluently a few minutes later.

Yes we've already seen many examples that jacking gives you full access to the skills and experiences of the person you're jacking.

I thought it was odd because of how rooted to memory language is, but people with retrograde amnesia don't necessarily forget their language. I guess it makes sense after all.

I just watched 12 episodes of this over the last three days and now I'm caught up and I don't know what to do now.

Fucking L-Elf.

For some reason I just assumed everyone knew the Valvrave pilots were super human. But I guess not. I guess they just do all the plan required body jacking in secret?

:D

Pretty much. Like no one other than L-elf was around
when they body jacked the ship inspectors
the episode before.

Lol at the part
where Lelf headshots marie without saying anything just to get the dudes attention.
"Why are you paying more attention to her than to me?! I thought we had something special!"

Episode 16

Boy... that sure was.... Valvrave.

I think it was fairly obvious what was going to happen from the mid-point of the episode, but it was still delivered really well. Kinda heartbreaking really. It sure was cool to see the Valvrave operating at full spec though. Also, that scene with A-Drei was a really hilarious way to trigger a romance flag. I guess Saki is going be drawn to the Dorssian side now, since they've split up. Can't blame her though, A-Drei is kinda hot!

It's going to be really interesting to see where things go next week. I think this second season hasn't really had a clear direction until this point, but now it feels like it has fully found it's groove. :D

Episode the 16th

It's kind of surprising to me that
Valvrave can pull of these fairly serious episodes with some degree of weight. We shouldn't really care that much about these characters of their antics based on the ridiculousness of the story but that was actually a emotionally effective finale. Marie sure suffered badly at the hands of the Valvrave :(

This show is reminding me of Gundam 00 how in the first season the 4 Gundam's were superior than every other mech but then in season 2 their tech got stolen and the enemy started making mechs that could actually compete with them and pose a real threat.

It's the weight of 16 episodes, when the character memes actually turn into our source of attachment to them, lol.

Of course the show is really well-executed, I'm still wrapping my head around how tight the direction and pacing is in most episodes. This one also had cool effects and explosions to top it off.

They have all these plot threads dangling, it's going to be a ride seeing them tidy it all up. In Okouchi I trust.

Also, random speculation based on what we know so far:

We assume a number of characters can't possibly die because we've seen them in the future, but a Valvravian twist could be that those bodies have been body-jacked by other characters. I mean, that's pretty unlikely, but who knows.

Episode 16

Wow. This episode caught me off guard. Great execution on the
Marie stuff
, and L-Elf continues to be a boss.

But by the end all I could think was
they left Saki behind
.

Unlikely is VVV's bread and butter.

Now that we know more or less how
Runes work in the humans
, L-elf being generally more nervous and less on top of everything sort of makes sense considering the main event in episode 13. I wonder
if he'll start losing memories now that the other source has offered everything it got.

So what you're saying is...
The Saki in the future we've been seeing all this time, is actually Akira after she jacked Saki's body! That... would actually match with the "promise" she talks about back in season 1 though. Since Akira seems a lot more attached to Shoko and than Saki does.

This show always delivers in 30 minutes or less. Glorious.
Looks like things will keep getting more unstable

Valvrave - 16

Well, the episode was quite enjoyable and yet mildly depressing at the same time.

The results are mostly effective. Suffice to say that Okouchi can often be a crazy clown but he's not an idiot.

I do think some people might be a little premature
about Marie being dead.

I mean, it's entirely possible, but I suspect they'll just make her a totally blank slate while keeping the body alive...with hope of future recovery.

Either way works for me and this does make the possible fallout from the event interesting. We'll see what happens next.

Episode 16

Marie :(

Gonna be crazy how things go from here. I'm surprised that there's a decent amount of structure to this story but it still somehow remains batshit insane. I LOVE IT.

Dont really understand people saying we shouldnt be caring for the characters or the memes and what not but I guess that is what it is. In any event I thought the episode was fairly good for at least delivering some development in terms of the backstory of the development of the Valvraves. It definitely beat out at least having a whole monologue detailing technological advancement and what not by some modern day scientist but making it personable on the human level with some elements of emotion
or rather the sake of the runes being equivalent to memories and using Maria as the conduit worked well to drive this plot forward. Kind of sad seeing the memories shatter as attack after attack was unleashed like but was a nice touch instead of them just fading to black or going at all at once. Additionally how impressive to see such a large scale attack of firey obliteration and vaporization in a hi ougi moment of glory.
.

I think every episode has really been solid so far on both sides of the characters, H-neuns comments and perspective too mustnt be forgotten and I hope it leads to more

Valvrave 16

So good. It's amazing to me how this show can transition so expertly from a "great" show to a legitimately amazing watch. That was just unironically good. Marie's story was well executed and really touching. Seeing a Valvrave go
into a berserk state
added some really interesting plot twists that I cannot wait to see followed up on. Also, that music and that battle animation. It's all so well done. Why can't Sunrise execute like this on your typical AU Gundam show? For those, the animation is there but the plot is a mess. VVV proves that they can get people that can take the stupidest plot and execute it so perfectly that it doesn't matter. Get these people on Gundam!

If VVV can keep this up, and I'm almost sure it will, it'll easily be my anime of the year. These past few episodes have made the gap so vast that I don't think anything can catch up.

I wonder if there's any chance Akira will be stuck in the body of that blond girl? It's kind of odd that they apparently didn't say anything about recovering her body. Saki was still in the area though, and we know she goes back to normal. Still, seeing themselves dying could be a big drama card, and they haven't played it yet.

You sure? :P

:)

Hm... after rewatching those flashforwards, they don't reveal the person Saki(?) is talking about when she mentions a promise, even though they showed the necklace twice... I guess that suggests they might really be planning a twist there

Does anyone know the name of the song that plays during episode 16 when
Marie starts fighting the Dorssians?

Is this show worth watching?

Yes.

On an unrelated note:
If a Pilot dies while possessing another body, do they die forever? Only their main body is immortal right?

Thanks. Would you mind elucidating?

I had gotten the impression from Haruto in L-Elf's body in the beginning of the show that he still was a full immortal vampire, but I guess that wasn't based on anything solid. Looking at Saki in the newest episode though, I guess they are mortal in other bodies.

The plot is really far fetched at times. Sunrise uses every mecha anime trope and cliche ever. The show is like... imagine taking a bunch of rotten fruit and throwing it in a blender. But instead of something bad you somehow get a delicious smoothie. The show is just enjoyable. Everything works because whoever is working on this is having an incredible amount of fun. The show is fun. It makes you care about the characters somehow. I don't know how. It is magical.

edit: And then there are episodes that are just plain good. Not ironically so. The latest episode being a perfect example.

I didn't see anything in the latest episode really suggesting that. Could have been immortality, could have been CPR.
