Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | October 2013 | Ver 2000, Batman and some Angry Birds

Haven't touched my Vita in a while (not by choice but thanks to my tight university schedule) but I bought Persona 1 [PSP] and I got a really cheap 4GB memory card which I will most likely use for an US account.

Alright. I just got my Vita. What next?

Was also signing up for US PSN. I don't live in US. What do I do about the address?

Edit: Please add me guys I'm lonely.

PSN: killatopak312

Just put a fake address in. It is inconsequential. Also, set up a US amazon account to buy psn codes, if you don't already know this.

Stick with it! 2048 was my first Wipeout since 2097 and I thought I hit my limit around the A class elite passes. Now all I have left is three elite passes and i'm done, then to move on to the fury and hd expansions.

I switched it on and managed to beat a time trial that was sucking the life out of me. But now I have completed the 2049 section I'm going to turn it off and try push through without it again.

Thank you for bringing this wonderful news. Although I'm usually weary of Rising Star Games, they delayed many of their DS retail games in the past. It's still great news that we're getting this game.

Latest Interview with creators, Nihon Falcon Konno says that next Ys is underway and will be for the vita!

Double whammy!

Nice to have another Iraqi among us. I was worried to be the only one representing the vita here XD

Oh NISA will bring YS to Europe in 2014 - great news.

Also Grownlanser or Gungnir ? Which one is better ?

It depends on what you want. I don't own the games either but I've made some research if that is of any value to you.

Grownlanser is regarded pretty highly among a few dedicated fans. The games are known for having different endings and the main character choosing his lover near the end. Some of the characters you play with are pretty pandering, like having an animal looking girl that falls in love with the main character :P I haven't seen too much of the gameplay, but it looked typical without knowing a lot about it.

Gungnir is more compared to games like Final Fantasy Tactics and Tactics Ogre in gameplay and a bit of style. Though, this one has some minor flaws. The more noticeable and prominent one being, a lot of text is displayed during cutscenes and gameplay. It's more understandable what I'm talking about if you watch some gameplay videos.

I'm leaning towards Gungnir myself and still debating wether to get it or not.

The one time trial that is kicking my ass is the Capital Reach one in 2050 campaign, Elite pass is 2:50 and the best i've been able to get is 2.57.83 with the pir-hana.

Ok thanks sounds like Gungnir will be more for my taste.

I look forward to it. Metro Park time trial in 2049 was the one that killed me. I was always 2 seconds off no matter how well I went. Also I should probably try different ships, pretty much always use Feisar speed ship.

^ definitely check out the other ships, really crazy the differences in handling sometimes, metropark takes a while to get used to with those annoying rocks around the insides of corners and that narrow ass bridge. Great sense of speed on that track though.

Wasn't expecting another either, pretty cool :)

I just got order updates from Nippon-Yasan about the 64GB (which I ordered on Friday, changed status to preparing yesterday) - today I got 2 emails, shipped and transit (with tracking).

:) back in stock I guess?

I just use my credit card. The exchange rate is the bank rate. Amazon accepts international cards.

Oh, I should ask my bank then, it's a fairly small one and I have disabled the credit in my card, since I don't have any income (christmas, birthdays, summer job and ocassional begging aside xD).
___

I'm in my mid-game rest week in P4G. August was too long and empty. That's probably my only problem with the game until now, but I ended tired of playing. Still, it's not a problem, I always feel that way whenever I play a JRPG.

Is the game as grindy and repetitive as the reviews say it is?
Vk3 is heavily focused on money, equipment and stats, so when you need money or you can't beat a boss you need to grind a lot, otherwise(=most of the time) it's not, i have always hated grinding in games, but i'm 25 hours in vk3 and i still want more because the game knows how to repay you.

I don't think that vk3 is for everyone because it has it's faults, but it's way better than people like to think(most of them without even touching it).

Because it's preventing my playthrough of Persona 4 Golden and that's a terrible thing. Maybe I just want a Fight Night successor on the Vita (which this isn't).
Maybe it's more in line with your tastes or needs than persona 4?
Even good games need to be played at the right time, maybe in this moment you don't really want to play a game like persona 4, not because it's a bad game, but because you want something else like a boxing game?
What is more important, what you really want or what is good?
Games are just games, you should play what you enjoy the most, when the time for persona 4 will come you will know it and you will enjoy it more than now, don't force yourself to play persona 4.

Grasshopper Manufacture (Suda51's bad studio) has partnered up with some Japanese student game developers for six more Vita games
This is some kind of annual thing for them. Last years games were given away as PlayStation Plus freebies in Japan.

Anyway, CyberFront/Experience have released a video of the new dungeon crawler RPG - Tokyo Shin Seiroku: Operation Abyss:

http://youtu.be/yAONv_2_ajQ

It's the just opening animation, so no gameplay, but it does give an impression of the music and art.

Ordered on Wednesday, still stuck on preparing :(.

Doesn't it require an US billing address that matches you card's?

I'd love to buy my codes there, but it's a no-go even with an international card.

Nope, Amazon wants a US billing address, but you can use a non US card. Well, I can use my Canadian card. Some people say that you should use a real US address, but mine is total made up.

All the talk about Metroidvanias in the other thread has made me realise I wish Hell Yeah Wrath of the Dead Rabbit had a Vita version. I enjoyed what I played of it on the PS3 but gave up, but it's exactly the type of game i'd play on my Vita.

Outside of Guacamelee and SOTN, what are some good Metroidvania titles on the Vita guys?

I played the demo of hell yeah and it looked like a normal platformer to me... Anyway i agree, i would like it to be on vita.

Knytt underground is an awesome metroidvania, but it's absolutely not for everyone because of some of its choices like: no fights, focus on your platforming/physic abilities in a giant labyrinthine world with points of interests that are distant and complex to reach(the map is the challenge, not the few enemies) etc.
It's a bet, you can love or hate it, if you think you could like exploring a very quiet but challenging game with great atmosphere then there are good chances that you'll like it.

Maaaan Skyzard... you just had to mention Mario 64 in that Tearaway thread of yours huh. Now all we get is just bickering back and forth instead of real discussions about the game... what a shame :\

AO Blackgate is pretty much a metroidvania.

I've got Knytt free as part of PS+ so I might give it a download.

Proteus drops tomorrow in the EU! (today in the US). It'll be £9.99 with a 10% discount for non-plus members and 20% for Plus members in the first two weeks. Cross Buy too!

I played about an hour of Batman last night, not really enough to give any reliable impressions. I like it so far, but I can imagine it gets old quickly if you're not that into the combat. As I say though, I've only played an hour or so before bedtime and I was knackered.

I picked up the first Corpse Party and was amused to see it's RPGmaker like graphics... yet, I'm still playing the game.

It's such a weird contrast.

yeah, i felt that way too until about an hour in and then it starts to really feel cohesive. the sound direction adds a whole lot, too.

Well I'm desperate for some Platforming goodness on my US Vita that I'm getting Bonk and New Adventure Island.

Weird US PSN didn't mention any Plus discount for it yesterday.

It does... I can't help but think about the wasted potential of the setting however.

Take, for example, Lone Survivor. It's presented in 2D pixel art as well, but it's done with a loving care in order to match the art style with the atmosphere. I haven't really reached that cohesive part of Corpse Party where the art adds to the atmosphere. So far it just distracts.

I just put in a fake us address. Bought a code just a month or 2 ago. Unless things changed really recently, it should still work.

CDJapan has one 64GB Vita memory card in stock at the moment.
9980 yen http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/detailview.html?KEY=PCH-Z641J
I checked shipping costs to the U.S. and it said:
FedEx International Priority: 1700 yen, 1-3 days
EMS 1500 yen, 3-6 days
Registered Air Mail 1560 yen, 4-12 days (may take up to 8 weeks)
Air Mail 1150 yen, 4-12 days (may take up to 8 weeks)
SAL 700 yen, 1-3 weeks (may take up to 12 weeks)
Registered SAL 1110 yen, 1-3 weeks (may take up to 12 weeks)

Starlight Inception is shit. And I was one of the people that hyped the last hours of the KS campaign.

The gameplay is dissapointing, the ship behaves weirdly, there is terrible collision detection, clipping, and when the engine works, the results are terrible (try to bump your ship in the larger ships).

Nice graphics (but poor framerate, that fluctuates between 60-12fps), the sound is OK, but the font is hard to read. If you put subtitles, the subs clashes with the HUD.

For now, it is a mess.

Someone having experience with these Vita Replacement Boxes?

61TRIN2HaIL._SL1000_.jpg

There seems to be only one model around, some dealers on amazon sell them and some on ebay. Shipping to Germany is quite expensive, so I would like to know how they are, the plastik looks kind of cheap on the photo.

Sadly there isn't a single european retailer that sells these :/

Want to do custom covers for some Vita download games btw.

Even thought about buying 50+ and selling some on ebay, but I don't think there is a huge demand..

Tearaway will be it hopefully.

Crash isn't charming anymore - only to people with nostalgia for him - even if that is a lot of people, when they go back to play it - the game is punishing, it's just the way he moves and how constricted the levels are and the obstacles in his way. It's not fun for kids anymore who will be the main target with a character designed like him, unless they gave the game a larger world with interconnected typical crash bits...and more adult humour and focused on us instead. That's asking for a lot though I think - since crash is in skylanders or something kiddish as just another thing.

As Rayman Origins commercial proved, just because you have a more kid friendly aesthetic doesn't mean that the game is for kids:

*snip*

Agreed on all your points. The framerate issues especially. I was also surprised to discover cockpit view was a 2D image. :/
Bitched about the framerate a ton during my feedback email and I noticed other people bringing it up on the forums, so hopefully it'll be addressed.

EDIT: dat Ys news.

Are they releasing all the DLCs at the same time? Man, that's weird. Now I understand why they need so much time...

I was looking around and this answers the questions I had about what the dlc actually is:

http://www.siliconera.com/2013/03/27/how-muramasa-rebirths-four-vita-only-dlc-characters-play/

8 stages, 8 new bosses.
4 characters, none of which use, swords.
Catgirl, Ninja, Little demon girl, Farmer.

Hurry and release it here, MarvelousAQL/Vanillaware -- I'll buy it for sure.
And then maybe I'll have enough incentive to get back into Kisuke/Momohime in Fury mode.

Is it just me, or others have some performance issues with Oddworld Stranger's Wrath HD as well? By performance issues i mean some strange "hitchups" from time to time, where the game freezes for a moment.
There were no problems in the tutorial area or in the first town, but just after I accepted the next bounty and passed the north gate, I started to experience this problem every few minutes.

Did you update the game? I recall there being an update that fixed a few things.
