One more thing: Seeing some questions re: Xbox One & support for CDs, MP3, DNLA etc. I'll track those answers down.

So three new troubling finds:

- No DLNA

- No MP3 (force Music Unlimited Sub for custom soundtracks)

- Smaller physical size than expected for HDD

Only the HDD part personally concerns me, but the other two stand out more as obvious glaring omissions.

Make your voices heard, @yosp is there.

I don't get the outcry here. You sign up to the service, pay a monthly or yearly subscription fee and you're instantly able to listen to music ... for free. It's just like free games on PS+.

lol, I knew I wasn't the only person who noticed the way people use that language.

Touchy.

I play music through my speakers and listen to the game through my TV.

I'm sorry if that's not good enough for you, your highness, but i was just stating what works for me. Now off you go to your ivory tower.
Whooaaa. Just wondering out loud. I'm sorry my goddess. If have offended you in anyway. Please continue right along.

That is nuts..

MS: "Want unlimited access to all the music you love?"

me: Yes!

MS "Pay us 10 bucks a month for access!"

me: FUCK YOU

You're wrong for listening to him. He's wrong. Music pass is only one of the ways they stated you could listen to music.

To be fair, custom soundtrack on the PS3 were at the behest of the developer. They weren't system wide like the 360.
Like many things on PS3, definitely. Just trying to point out that this is a capability that people did make use of in gaming.

My GT5 also has custom music for menus and gameplay. I'd also play music through DLNA sometimes when company was around.

The only thing this move does is make me upset at Sony and less on board with the idea of consoles in general, as more and more basic functionality is locked down and monetized. It sure as hell isn't making me want to sign up to some music service.

Well they are hiding it behind a paywall. ..

Aside from that, there were those who were saying the outrage was useless and would fall upon deaf ears, we see how that went.

Moral of the story? Don't be a defeatist ass apologist.

This isn't like PlayStation+. Whatever you get as a bonus as a PS+ subscriber is still available to other PlayStation console owners, though it costs more to buy a promoted game. The way this sounds, if you choose not to subscribe to Music Unlimited, there is no plan B to getting custom background music at all.

And if you're paying a subscription fee for the ability to access something 'for free', then it isn't free.

Wow first online paywall and now this crap.
What about mp4 or mkv support ? Figure its locked out too.

You see what happens when we didnt rise up to psn paywall ? We get a media paywall.

Fuck this bullshit.

Well I'll need to keep my PS3 hooked up then, usually an upgraded console doesn't mean a downgrade in media functionality but Sony is changing the game.

I look at all those and think........."all things I just don't care about". I can fit a 1+TB drive in it, I never have used custom soundtracks, and used DLNA a tiny bit, but haven't used it in a few years.

Xbox music is also the name of the music manager in windows 8. It manages your music and you can "Play To" you xbox regular MP3s.

I love this post if it's serious. And I also love it if its sarcastic. Either way it works beautifully.

omg I just realized this means not even NFS might support custom soundtracks anymore as a result (Criterion games generally did). How am I supposed to enjoy something like Rivals without it? The music gets soooooo stale. faaaaack.

That's not surprising actually. Maybe they don't want to go through the headache of royalty fees when they can use their already established networks and music catalogs and make us pay for that.

You'll excuse me nextgen guys. I'm busy playing MP3 music on my WiiU in Wii mode.

That's right, true nextgen here.

9 million units here I come.

I think that we are creating the idea that they are not going to build a media player of any kind. But, in the absence of a statement otherwise why not assume the worst?

Because other stuff on the FAQ that is not available they mentioned they were planning to bring it in after launch or at least considering it. For .mp3 and DLNA they just said "no".

With games you can go buy them through other channels and still play them on the system.

I've been doing this since the original Xbox. There were even games that let you integrate your burned music into the game's soundtrack.

Is it too late in the game to band together and do another #movement?

Sony produces and sells music globally through various distributors to this day. Locking out all those past and future purchases is disgusting.

chubigans

y'all should be ashamed
Yeah major is going to go get answers on "DNla"

He has been testing the OS at home every night, I'm sure we'll get answers right away!

To chubigans. He's wrong about needing a music pass to listen to music. According to Albert, and MS at gamescom you can apparently stream your own music(I'd guess from a Win8 or 8.1 only PC) too. Wait for Larry to confirm before you believe anything either way though.

We'll see I guess.
