It is not clear. All the PR reps and MS people in the know have been silent since this news broke.
The PS4 not supporting mp3s is so weird that I was sure the X1 would support mp3s and they would jump at the chance to stick the boot into Sony.

It's not just a matter of cash.
Most music i'd be interested in using during a game just isn't available there.
Do they have the Shenmue soundtrack i used with Virtua Fighter 5? No they don't.
Do they have the Léon: The Professional soundtrack, i used with Rainbow Six Vegas? No they don't.
Super duper mega lame
Better patch mp3 support in
Selling you a service that provides that video/music you would have streamed.
Does anyone know if the Xbone will act as a media server. Don't really care about the MP3s too much.
Why would it seem strange for people to skip out on a game, because it didn't have an intended game feature? Got another example besides a false equivalency? And you know, many people who play driving games in cockpit decided not to pick up Grid 2. Is that strange to you?
And I am well within my rights to make fun of those whiny manbabies, that are difficult to appease and make purchasing decisions in line of my dogs intelligence when he goes to take a shit.Sony's well within their rights to remove features or put them behind paywalls. And to the extent that those decisions negatively impinge on a user's experience those users are more than reasonable to skip out on that product.
I just read through 10 pages of meltdowns and cancellations, dumbstruck by the stupid and the entitled - who cancelled their purchase, because .01 of it was wrong and said fuck it all. The same who complain about always online DRM, DLC, online passes, and the casualization of videogames, who don't know when to pick a fight and unknowing highlighted why game makers no longer cater towards them - because they are whiny manbabies with super-sensitive-12-year-old-girl-feelings.OK, I think you just might be projecting here. A bit.
It's kind of funny how the biggest negatives to the PS4 are about trivial and arbitrary things such as mp3s and multimedia services. Its sucks that it does not have the option but these things are being blown over the top. Do some of you even remember why you buy consoles in the first place? Last time I checked this site was a dedicated hardcore gaming forum and that should take priority above all things.
That even CD playback being omitted was done to push the PS4 customer into paying for the Music Unlimited service.
Lol okIt's almost like the real "Plus" membership is $100 now.
It costs less than 400 to make, they are trying to squeeze a profit out of there product - how dare they not spend an extra 2 dollars to appease your entitlement! How dare they not spend millions to appease the horse driven chariots of the world!
Are you going to sit there and suggest to me that a person buying this doesn't own a phone? or a tablet? or a PC? The system only works on HDTV's. Everyone that is buying this, owns a multimedia device of one sort or the other.
What consumer listens to music on a videogame system instead of their phone or tablet?

Exactly. Its almost as if they trashed every part of the old Sony culture with their recent changes. It frustrating. I used CD on my PS1, DVD on my PS2, BD on my PS3, etc. Now, not only was physical video media being considered unnecessary, but MP3s are incompatible, too. And no "news" of a Day 1 patch, either. Its disappointing. It doesn't matter because the PS4 is also incapable of playing CD's.
This is LITERALLY the ONLY Playstation branded system that Sony has EVER built that does not include a way for you to playback your personal music collection. No CD, no mp3, no nothing.
Every other Playstation system in existence includes a way for you to play your purchased music.
I now understand why Sony decided against getting CD-playback capability into the system. Music Unlimited is their new "blu-ray trojan horse" for this generation.
Don't worry Kagari confirmed it's fine. No panic.
All you need to do is watch a random stream on Twitch to understand how important music is. It's probably more important to hardcore gamers than any other demographic.
Well, aside from the occasional "I use my console to play games - be like me" comment, I'm glad that most of you aren't defending or spinning this. Maybe GAF isn't so biased after all. This is indefensible.

Windows Media Extender isn't compatible. But we don't know if it supports DLNA/MP3/Etc yet.Have we found out MS stance on the music stuff and DLNA? I find it hard to believe the company who tried to do all those lockdown moves with the reveal were also gonna freely allow streaming of content from the computer.
I could be wrong though.

People wouldn't be reacting so strongly if Sony said these features were coming later.
This is just madness, I think I need to step away. People are acting as if a new console during the rush to launch does not have certain features prioritized over others. You know, like the ability to make sure games run smoothly, do not crash, network works acceptably. From the rumors we have heard they are having a hard enough time with those basic features. Yet, we have individuals running around screaming that they are going to cancel their preorders because DLNA is not supported at launch. Sony does not have support for their very own Pulse headset at launch, and there is no timeline as to when it will be supported (other than 'soon').
This FAQ just came out, can we give it 24-48hrs before we start canceling preorders?
I am well within my rights to make fun of those whiny manbabies.

Its not a false equivalency, its the very same reasoning. Why would it seem strange for people to skip out on a game, because it didn't have an intended game feature? Got another example besides a false equivalency?

iPhone?? What would you do with an iPhone in this situation? Serious question...
Really? Link please.

They're scrambling to add it in!Yeah. This is worrying. A rare chance for MS to rub something in Sony's face and they're not jumping on this?! MS needs all the goodwill they can get. They should be all over this.
mp3 man, MP3 I don't care if your in a rush to push out a product practically everything supports MP3 at launch, in this day and age your not a modern electronic entertainment device if you don't support it.
