So the bullshit about GDDR5 and the day one patch shows that you're riding the negativity train just to troll. No mp3 is unfortunate, I assume it's mostly to push people to their streaming service, plus not wanting to pay the licensing fee.

But no DLNA is a big problem for me, I use PS3 Media Server and/or Plex to stream movies to my PS3 via DLNA. That would be a huge loss. I guess, again, they're wanting to push people into buying movies from their service, but sorry Sony, that just ain't going to happen.

If media playback was that important to you, buy a dedicated device for that purpose. No one is handcuffing you and forcing you to use ONLY the ps4 and ONLY music unlimited.

They "look the same" to you. The differences are obvious for other people. Personally I hate jaggies and it was the first thing I noticed in the XO version thanks to the sharpening filter and 720p.

This isn't the first piece of hardware that is released with incomplete features, most launches are like that (although I'm still suspicious that Sony tried to get away with it to force on us their music service). We'll see.

You know sir ( as most of us ) that huge difference just will be noted on first party titles , just wait until Naughty Dogs release something on PS4. Second launch games generally do not show the raw power of consoles. We just need to wait 1-2 years to see the huge difference. But even in Battlefield you can see clear improvements on the PS4 version over Xbone, no matter if it is just a launch game.

Keep in mind the PS3 launched with virtually zero features besides being able to play games. I thought GAF knew better? History, boys. History.

Wait and it will eventually get fixed. Sony has too much invested to let their competitor own a differentiator that they could patch into the firmware. The amount of 40+ page threads in the last week on "PS4 can or can't do x" and "Xbone can or can't do y" is getting laughable.

The problem w/ your statement is that it's implying there's a technical deficiency preventing PS4 from playing MP3s in any sort of way or streaming music content, which we obviously know isn't the case. And because of that-and as painful as it is to say it-that doesn't leave any other explanation on the table besides "money".

Which is okay. They're a company. Microsoft's a company and they've made questionable business decisions in the face of no technical limitations either (Netflix behind a paywall). While MS's yet to justify that decision, time will tell if Sony can justify a MU sub to do features the PS3 can at no cost. And if it's pound for pound the same, it's not justified. That's why they'll have to do some incredible value building into it if they don't change anything.

Video? Depends on the type. Music? No, unless they're now supporting other file types most consumers don't mess with, like AIFF or WAV (both owned by other companies anyhow so it'd be nonsense to support them and not MP3).

It can easily be added in future firmware updates. Just like they did on PS3. PS3 didn't have DLNA support until firmware 1.80.

That they did. And I loved every bit of it.

Although funny enough, Halo would bitch at you sometimes for using it. So you'd lose everybody's voices and some background noises. Maybe stranger still, whenever I used custom soundtracks in Halo it was to pipe in my own custom mix of Halo music.

But Forza and Crackdown and Borderlands without custom soundtracks? I couldn't even imagine.

You know, I have to sit back at laugh at all this in some ways. This past year, ive rode pretty hard for Sony, almost to the point of fanboyism

but underneath it all this is my philosophy.

This. I pledge allegiance to my wallet and my consumer rights, no company or moral standard.

Im mostly outraged because Im selfish. I don't give a shit about any company outside hoping the products I like remain profitable enough to allow the company to continue making them.

However, I take a big issue with anyone trying to dip their hand further in my pocket than I will allow them, both to increase their margins and to continue to be profitable making the games and experiences I DONT like. That gets a big fuck you from me, be it Sony, Microsoft or Valve.

This never more true than it is today. Up until this morning, there was no question that I wasn't going to buy a PS4. Full price on launch day without a quibble. Now Sony can take it and shove it where the sun dont shine.

I think its hilarious that your bringing in MP3 playback as this big fumble Sony is having. About the BF comparison, I recall many (most?) people on here saying that launch third-party games would have very little difference. So the fact that BF4 and COD have massive resolution differences speaks volumes. As I said before, you usually will here about some of the caveats and disappointing stuff closer to launch, and it's usually usually regarding some of the smaller features, like mp3 playback. I wouldn't be surprised to continue seeing unfortunate news about XB1.

They probably didn't intend to have that in there. But it wouldn't be the first time a company adds a new feature based on consumer feedback.

No DLNA support is a huge blow for me. I use the ps3's media server capabilities just as much as I use it for gaming. Looks likes my Ps3 will be staying on the shelf for some time yet. What a massive step backwards.
