This is more along the lines of...alternate body?
He's clearly saying costumes will not be part of the customisation process when it comes to a character i.e. we can't make our own costumes for Mario and give him a sombrero.

Do female Pokemon look different? If not then just changing the trainer should be enough.
Never played OoT so I can't answer that, but isn't Dark Link too "generic" in essence that it works as a palette color (it's essentially Link with black colors and black skin)?
He wouldn't elaborate on exactly what those customizations are, saying only that they won't be costumes and they won't be something that players have to unlock through repetitive tasks. Different costumes, he said, would take away from what makes each character unique.
Lucas = Claus
Some do, but not all of them. In Generation IV they added gender differences for a handful of Pokemon, which they dropped mostly afterwards bar specific, obvious cases.
Of the Smash cast, only Pikachu has one, the female has a heart-shaped tail.
Knowing Sakurai, this is probably just a ploy to get people fantasizing about alts, and giving them hope that they'll appear. When in the end, only like 3 characters will have alts.

Let's do this:
Donkey Kong = Funky Kong
No! Keep that annoying ape and his voice out of my smash. D:<
None of the Pokemon that Pokemon Trainer used in Brawl would have gender differences. Pikachu would, though.
edit: beat D:
Hmm ok. Maybe they could just add a few more colours for the actual Pokemon?Some do, but not all of them. In Generation IV they added gender differences for a handful of Pokemon, which they dropped mostly afterwards bar specific, obvious cases.

Looks like the male trainer has a bigger ass than than the female.
Lucina Marth alt pls
Maybe but is it nicer? I think not.
It is no kankei hanashi, but cannot answer questions about this screen! Guy! http://p.twipple.jp/60eQ5
Sonic = Classic Sonic
Speaking of which, did anyone claim the Delphox avatar you made? If not, I'd love to claim it.You can always dump an avatar if you don't like it, plenty of people use em for like 2-3 days tops lol.
Yoshi = BirdoLet's do this:
Yoshi = Boshi
Link = Villager Outfit from Twilight Princess
Zelda = Skyward Sword outfit.
Ganondorf = OoT Ganondorf (Assuming TP Ganondorf is the standard)
Sonic = Classic Sonic
Mega Man = Ugly Cover Art Mega Man, or maybe Proto Man.
Yeah, I think this is just another special case thing. I wouldn't get my hopes up for every character to have an alt. That would be a lot of extra work.
Yoshi = Crayon style
Link = The link from the cartoon
Ganondorf = The pig one
Sonic =Amy or tails.
Mega Man =Bass
Damn. Is this the first time he's directly come out and said "this is all the info you're getting for now"?
Speaking of which, did anyone claim the Delphox avatar you made? If not, I'd love to claim it.
Yoshi = Birdo
Link = OoT!Link
Ganondorf = Either OoT!Ganondorf or Demise
Sonic = Shadow (Wouldn't classic Sonic's hit boxes be extremely different?)
Mega Man = Proto Man
And I think Skyward Sword Zelda as an alternate costume would be problematic because hit boxes![]()

loledited
awI remember seeing someone with it, no clue if they kept it tho.
You are right. I'd guess Proto Man would require new animations as well, because of his shield. Plus, it wouldn't make sense for him to have Rush in his moveset.See some of these wouldn't work. Birdo and Shadow for example would require new animations. You would have to either go with an alternate costume the character has worn before or some thing that is literally like a clone. Male and female versions of avatar type characters, mega man and proto man, Peach and Daisy, etc.
There are some differences between Sonic and Shadow, besides the color scheme. For example, Shadow doesn't run like Sonic, he "skates".Is Shadow/Classic Sonic really that different from the Sonic we already have? I mean I don't know much about the series, but you could just slap some black paint on Sonic and maybe add some red lines here and there and bam Shadow, right? Also what exactly is the difference between Classic and Modern Sonic? I just dun see why they would need different animations or have weird hit boxes if they were alt costumes.

Double trainer happened.

The only explanation fandumb ever needs.

Let's do this:
Mario = Dr. Mario
Luigi = Mr. L
Peach = Daisy
Bowser = Dry Bowser
Donkey Kong = Funky Kong
Yoshi = Boshi
Wario = Classic Overalls
Link = Villager Outfit from Twilight Princess
Zelda = Skyward Sword outfit.
Ganondorf = OoT Ganondorf (Assuming TP Ganondorf is the standard)
Toon Link = Train Conductor outfit from Spirit Tracks.
Samus = Fusion armor.
Pit = Dark Pit/Pittwo
Fox/Falco/Wolf = Not too familiar with this series... Command/Adventure outfits, I guess?
Pokemon Trainer = Female Trainer (Hopefully we get more than one to represent every Gen)
Pikachu = Female Pikachu
Marth = Lucina
Ike = Priam
Roy = Eliwood
Ness = Ninten
Lucas = Claus
Villager = Female Villager
Sonic = Classic Sonic
Mega Man = Ugly Cover Art Mega Man, or maybe Proto Man.
D'aww, I want Sakurai's cat to replace Nintendog as an assist trophy.
Again, in the Wii Fit and Animal Crossing games, the male and female trainers/villagers do exactly the same things as each other. All Smash Bros. attacks and taunts work for both versions. The same can't be said for an "obvious" costume like Dr. Mario, which in order to be true to the character would require pills, new taunts, and technically a new name -- at which point it's no longer an alternate costume.
Male and Female Villagers actually move a bit differently, with different walk/run animations. Hardly a major concern, but they're not a 1:1 comparison.

Isn't that if you have the character wearing a dress, regardless of the gender?
I thought that was the only instance where the walk/run animations changed?i totally tested this btw
