XBL: 48m users. Halo contunues in 2014...

I don't think that's a good way to assess if a game is good, there are a ton of problems with doing that.

What I think you are saying is that the multiplayer while it was good didn't do enough to keep people interested.
I would agree with that.

What issues do you have with that being a way to assess if a game, a game where multiplayer is most definitely the dominant side of the game, is considered good by people?

400K people down to 18K in under a year. Sorry but that screams 'Bad Multiplayer" to me.

Oh and you know, playing it for myself definitely tells me that this game has major issues. Mainly because they sought the casual CoD crowd, but problems nonetheless.

Well that's what you think and you know what I think.
I think this would be a time to agree to disagree.

I can tell you that it sold well because a lot of people trusted in what 343 had said and shown in multiple videos/demonstrations and people had hoped that this supposed crack team that was built to make a Halo game would deliver a game that brought back a truer Halo experience.

I know that I and many other people I know personally, and on forums bought Halo 4 because they hoped it would be less like Halo Reach and more like Halo 3/previous Halo's. Also Halo is a huge name so it selling well wasn't a surprise either given the marketing budget it had and that it was already well know before hand.

Big sales do not mean a game is good. If you want to see if a game is truly considered good by those who bought it, check if those people are still playing it.
It also really helped that all the first impressions from their booths was that it felt like Halo. Because, you pick it up for one game and it does kind of feel like Halo. But then you keep playing and all the little changes add up and you're left not satisfied.

I bought it day one because all the impressions, and because 343 convinced me they were bringing back Halo. But now, Halo 5, I'll have to wait a month or 2. If I even get an Xbox One, because even Microsoft has pushed me away too.

Anyone have that graph of all the Halo games' position in the top 20 over time? I couldn't find it in the last few pages of the OT but it's definitely the most damning proof of the death of Halo with 4.

nvm here it is:

You think I'm saying everyone loved the game? No.
In fact I might agree if you told me that more people hate this Halo than any other Halo, it still does nothing to affect the point I made.
It sold well because it says "Halo" on the box. People trusted 343i to continue the legacy of Bungie, especially after the promises made by 343i. Initial sales says nothing about a gaming being good or not, it only says something about the name/hype of the game.

Fun fact since the release the amount of users owning Halo 4 has doubled. And yet barerly 3~4% of the original population is playing it.

The saddest part about this, is that Halo 4 had so much potential. On a technical level the game is quite amazing, and the gunplay is pretty good, but all that goodness is buried under a steaming pile of CoD-flavored shit.

Two men enter, the better man leaves. The lesser man is respawning and that's Halo.

It shouldn't be more complicated than that.

Even, if it's a Halo 2 HD remake, they would only remake the campaign. There's just no way, that they are going to launch Halo 2 multiplayer again. They didn't do it with Halo CE and they won't do it with Halo 2. The only thing, that I see them doing, is remake some maps and make them DLC in Halo 5.

People need to wake up and the sooner they realize, that it won't happen, the better. There's no reason to live with that pain.

I hope for the best, to be honest. Played Halo 3 for so many hours and still made it through school somehow.

As for the 48 million users... That's an impressive number, but I wonder, if that includes multiple accounts of the same person. I had like 4 accounts, since 2007.

What if... Halo 2 Anniversary comes out in 2014 with it's original multilayer... and then Halo 5 comes out a year later and it's multiplayer is DLC for H2A?
;_;

So it doubled so despite everyone not liking this game it still sold really well?
Even with big names you see sales declining if it gets bad word of mouth.

I think that's the day, where I have to worry, how I make it through college. RIP in peace real life, too.

Let's completely forget about customer retention and other silly things like that.

Halo on XB1 is all I need. I want to play some REAL big team battle now since they're finally using dedicated servers. 16 vs 16 or 8 v 8 v 8 v 8!! day one!

Okay lets say the Xbone launches and the next year the put out Halo.
I highly doubt many people are going to go "Oh Halo 4 was shit so I am not getting this one"
Sure some people will but Halo is still well liked, and yes maybe even because they enjoyed Halo 4.
Impossible I know since you can't seem to forget that the multiplayer numbers are sown which could be due to a number of reasons and not just because everyone thought it was crap.

Please don't say competition from other games. Halo 3 and Reach faced similar competition and neither pretty much died in the first year of being around.

You know what stat holds more clout than Microsoft's 48 million Xbox LIVE users? This one...

I'm probably counted a dozen or so times amongst that list of LIVE users and I'm not sure whether I've turned on my X360 once this year.

Incidentally, Windows Phone users with gamertags are also pumping this number up.

I'm fairly certain that Halo 2 HD isn't happening. I feel like that bit of news made the rounds on halowaypoint last year when people were pinning for a better Halo.

If I can break away from FIFA i'll try and find the source.

Hype for Halo will come back once the first game play video is shown. I'm sure its going to look incredible and hopefully they bring some new game play to the table. Innovate instead of going where halo has already been.
