Shadow of the Colossus is amazing

Having skipped the PS2 generation (strictly PC gamer back then)... I'm only catching up to some of these gems now.

Are there anymore games like this. I've only just started SOTC and I don't want it to end. It's remarkable

Ico obviously. Other than that, these games are unique. Enjoy one of the greatest games and my favorite ending in my history of video games. It's a true work of art.

You might want to check out "Rime" which will be on the PS4. Unrelated but it looks like the spiritual successor of SotC and Wind Waker.

You are correct OP. One of the best games of the last gen, wish I could play it again for the first time, it was an incredible experience.

ICO is the game he made before it and is a great game as well. The problem is that this kind of game is very unique. That Prince of Persia Reboot seemed to try to mimick it though.

I played the PS2 one for maybe 30 minutes before I got sick from the framerate and returned it. Might have to pick up the hd version at some point.

There is a lot I liked about this game, but ultimately I found myself too frustrated by the controls. I was about 5 colossi in before I quit. Great atmosphere and concept though, I really wanted to like it more than I did.

It was more of an experience than a really fun game to me, but I don't mind, I like experiences.

It was one of my favorite games that gen, absolutely amazing.

SotC is the best game of that generation. I wish more games would cut out the fat and stick to the boss battles.

Some boss battles of W101 actually remind me of some of the strategies needed in SotC. I hoped the PS3 version would add in co-op or extra colossi, but that didn't happen.

Ico has the same general look and vibe, but it plays totally different. I thought Ico was decent, but absolutely loved SOTC. I don't think there's really any guarantee a person would like Ico because they liked SOTC.

Rime might be ok, but all that's been shown is a short trailer with some pretty art and what seems to be exploration. It could actually be shit. Hard to say.

Glad you finally discovered the game, now you can see why so many of us are waiting for The Last Guardian.

I finally played Ico in June and enjoyed it, even if it was a fair bit repetitive in level design near the end. I'm about 6 bosses into SoTC and loving it. I take my time with it though, sitting down to play through 2 at a time before waiting a week or two to resume. Controls are indeed terrible but once you get them, it works.

Ico was really good and I really enjoyed it. But the concept of this game.. where the levels ARE the giant bosses + puzzler all into one. The music is perfect too.

FYI. Playing them both on the PS3 as part of the HD collection.

Would be amazing if this game would just get remade for the PS4, maybe with the some of the additional colossi that didnt make the original.

Arguably the greatest game I have ever played. It's not as replayable as the likes of Ocarina of time and the Chrono's, but tyat experience when you go through it all.

Yeah something weird happened with SOTC and its gripping mechanism. You flail around continuously now for no reason.
They based the HD Collection on the EU version which was harder

I tried playing it for the first time in the HD Collection.

Ico holds up.... SOTC controls like shit.

Really? I mean it controls oddly, but I feel it really works for the game. The controls make you feel some of the struggle the character feels trying to take down each colossus.

Also, rawd, there aren't really any games like SoTC but there are a ton of other great PS2 games. I highly recommend the two Maximo games, great action/platformers that can be quite challenging.

This seems to be a popular complaint, is this a ps2 thing with the framerate? I find the controls fine unless we're talking about the horse (that I don't have a problem with)

The framerate was pretty bad though on the ps2.

I never played SotC till the HD collection. Knew almost nothing about it except for seeing pictures of some of the bosses. Absolutely a fantastic experience.

Closest thing I can think of that's close is Journey

Ico never captured my interest as well as those. Could never bother to stick with it.

Dragon's Dogma is sort of kinda like that. Not a PS2 game though. But you can climb monsters and stab them in the head. So there's that.

For everyone else that played it: Most annoying/difficult boss?

Final boss for me:
I couldn't figure out to shoot his hands so that I could make the last jump or 2, since the hands are not a weak point. I kept trying to make crazy jumps and falling all the way down, so I'd have to climb back up again. Plus when you die, it starts you way back at the gate so you have to do the whole cover and trenches thing

I'm actually enjoying not 'cheating' and using the sword to tell me the weak points. I'm enjoying scaling the colossi and seeing where I can/cannot get to.

OP if you want to get into some good PS2 games I'd recommend making a thread asking for PS2 game recommendations. Preface your OP saying what types of games you like, I'm sure we would be happy to give you recommendations.

Shadow of the Colossus and Ico are pretty unique in and of themselves.

Best game of the 00s. By the way the Controls are perfect (easy to pick up but hard to master). My first run involved a lot of trial and error and some frustrations. However after multiple playthroughs I can pretty much defeat any colossi in a very short amount of time.

I didn't find them all too difficult but I did that one boss wrong, the
bull
I think? The climbing spot
was like right next to him but I ran around the map and hide in tunnels and shit with the thing chasing me across the map for like half an hour
, it was terrible.

I'm playing it right now too. It's amazing how much stuff I missed when I played in my PS2 long ago.

It was one of my final games on PS2, so I rushed to get it done.
It was great of course, but I missed so much exploration (fruits, time attacks, special itens).
I had no idea those were even there!

Playing now to get my platinum trophy.

I really, really dug SotC and then played ICO for the first time after it and didn't really like it. I think I liked SotC for the epicness rather than the emptiness of it all, so ICO didn't really capture me.
