We use technology previously reserved for the manufacturing industry, called rapid prototyping machines, to convert three dimensional computer models into physical objects.

Please do. And don't forget the pics.bengraven said:Can I do my lvl 1 naked blood elf banker chick?
Takuan said:Kind of cool, but the actual models look pretty ugly for $100. They retain the blockiness of the in-game models, which isn't the fault of the manufacturer, but also the paint jobs look a bit off.
Seems expensive but the technology they use must also be not so cheap.
you'd be surprised how much fidelity can come through a 3d printer. Can't expect something really great since it's a 3d printer
Didn't Blizzard give one away?Xater said:Was I the only one thinking about some hot nightelf life- size dolls ?
RSLAEV said:Blizzard should have bought this technology and streamlined the process to lower the price somehow. I look forward to the day when I can order a custom model for $30.00-$50.00 instead of settling for Blizzard's official figurines.
Hell this could lead to a revolution in action figure production. 100% custom built figurines!

we just did our first model out of Z brush 1.5 mil polys; the unit came out stellar very clean very detailed toy quality dare I say.
I'm doing a 5'3 in 3d wolverine (logan) now ..when i'm done the Zbrush pass I'm getting it R-peed.
Did you seriously just call Blizzard art bad?GeneralIroh said:Ugh. WoW has bad character art. I'd rather have figures of Lineage II, Monster hunter,AION, or Guild Wars character.
Figures of TF2 characters would be brilliant.

ambalek said:Seems like that probably refers to stereolithography, where a resin that sets under UV light is used to build up a shape. Examples of these shapes online don't seem equal to the figurines posted above, but the WoW models are all in the painting anyway.

I'm pretty sure that's 8 months, not 1 1/2 years. It is 2008, isn't it? Or have I lost track of time again?Ferrio said:(neutral) Ferrio

Well I signed up. So now I have to wait for a drawing to see if I can even buy one. Even then it takes 2 months to make/send.

demifiend said:I got my print ordered in February and it arrived broken. I e-mailed them and they were very cool about it, and started another (better padded). The quality is quite good, although the material is a bit grainy. The colors look nice, and they don't skip on any details.
As for my old, broken figure, I'm not quite sure what to do with him. I thought about buying the gnome action figure, paint the Ashbringer a bit more to my liking and do some simple converting to put it in his hand. Then I'll have two custom draenei paladin figures for the price of one. Sheer madness.

So, I resubscribed to my WoW account, dressed up my character in her old gear. And made my order which totaled 150 dollars. I'll post pictures of the thing whenever it arrives. Based on how long it took me just to be able to order... it might be a few years.

On the other hand, I don't have very attractive looking gear, and even if I did have t6-s4 items and my guy looked super crazy, in the coming months there is of course going to be something way better. I'd be scared of what I COULD have got.
