I agree with Sessler. Gameplay is much more important than graphics.
It's not either or. The games in question have the exact same gameplay on both systems.
And we should demand both instead of settling for one or the other.

And they mention that the PS3 version suffers from a worse frame rate. So...DmC reboot from ign http://www.ign.com/games/dmc/xbox-360-86431
PS3 got 8.5 and 360 version got 8.9.
Well, my joke is that Mario 1 was at the time, was groundbreaking and just as important, as a game that pushed the graphical boundaries of what people thought the NES/Famicom could do.
But it was still inferior. It only matters when the gap is larger? Some Xbox one games ran in HD I don't remember people picking up Xbox's because of it. Is it a reason to pick one console over another? Sure. But why is it such a big deal to people not even buying that version?
Anyone remember the thread when Sessler left G4? It seems like the majority of Gaf liked him. Odd how things change so fast....

He got a freebie from Bethesda that's for sure and I wouldn't doubt that because of that his score for the game would be excellent no matter what. EW is basically the IGN of the movie industry I'll never claim that they have some sort of credibility.
He's gone downhill since then for sure.
Well yeah, that would mean the end of his career.
Can you elaborate?I feel like this is another clue about Western bias in gaming "journalism" along with the criticisms of Japanese developers/development (which often included criticism that I thought could be made of Western devs).
I agree with Sessler. Gameplay is much more important than graphics.
Yeah, most people here loved everything he had to say before, now he's suddenly always been hated cause he's not shitting all over the Xbox One with the rest of the internet.
All of this media conspiracy, MS shill, apologists crap is getting really old. It's obvious the PS4 is the stronger machine for less $ and that's what I'll be going with, but I'm not going to lose sleep at night because no websites care about a resolution difference of a couple launch third party cross gen games.
I agree with Sessler. Gameplay is much more important than graphics.
I'm not sure I can trust the words of a person, who was talking about quitting their work because they couldn't get a free console.
Shame...I used to deeply respect Sessler.
I love how games journalism has become more about appeasing the corporations rather than the gamer. We're in for some cringe-worthy stuff this generation.Well yeah, that would mean the end of his career.
It really irks me how the gaming press is completely shrugging off the disparity between PS4/XB1 multiplat games. As others have said, the issue is that Microsoft is offering a $500 console that can't graphically compete with a $400 competitor.
People compared and published differences between PS3/360 multiplats (isn't this basically why Digital Foundry even exists?). Why not now that the tables have turned?
1080p/60fps for 400 fucking dollars... why cant fucking gaming media understand this?
I'm not even mad about the downplaying of power differences. More confused than anything. His audience knows about the power differences and what they mean. There's no real reason to address the topic at all. Gamers buying launch systems know this shit.Which is why I don't completely disown the guy. It's easy for us to to pound our chests on NeoGAF, we're not risking losing our jobs. I still feel like he could have handled it better without downplaying the power difference.
^THIS
Why do people force themselves into an ultimatum when you can have BOTH?
These two things are not mutually exclusive.
Well you have to remember we're all enthusiasts on this forum, and on many forums. As such we view things on a far higher technical level than the average guy in Bestbuy who just goes to find the game to work on his/her system.
That's what people aren't seeing. to the majority of gamers it's NOT going to be a huge deal, even if to those who care it is a big deal.
And ultimately like it's always been, the games are what matter, not the power. It's why Nintendo consistently makes generation defining games on horrible hardware. Perhaps consoles should be like PCs, upgradable, it'd stop all this nonsense we're seeing now where people think entire industries are biased and evil, trying to hold down the poor Sony and downplay the weakness of MS consoles.
See my other responses. I don't care about playing COD at 1080p. I care about playing KI, DR3, Titanfall and Halo. PS4 can't provide that for me.If you have the SAME GAME with the SAME gameplay, you would pay $100 for shittier graphics? Because THAT is the question, not whether gameplay is more important than graphics, if anything with a more powerful console and awesome first-party development teams like ND you might have BETTER gameplay AND graphics.
I wonder if ign will dare do this with xbox version of call of duty.
This guy is on my shit list and has been for some time. I've gotten to the point where I disagree with virtually every position he holds.
Resolution and frame rate was a huge selling point for 360 multiplatform titles and now it suddenly doesn't matter? Where's the Jennifer Lawrence okay gif when you need it?
I agree with Sessler. Gameplay is much more important than graphics.
Thats what i said, and its a no.Honest question: If the issue was backwards; PS4 games as 720p vs Xbone's 1080p....would we have the same journalistic apologism?
You guys do realize how insane you all sound right?
Why is it not good enough to just enjoy your new shit? It needs to be made into some insane witch hunt where now respected people like Sessler are corporate shills.
Sorry we're all not insane people sitting their counting pixels.
Grow up.

In the case of Sessler, on this particular issue, I think he is so afraid of looking partial, that he somehow loses his objectivity. Nobody is contesting the importance of gameplay, AI and physics, but those are different issues, albeit crucial, to the one forums and enthusiasts have been pointing to. His points are valid, but are beside the point, imo.

But he's right, though.
At the end of the day, I'd rather play a great game at 720p than a shit game that made the 1080p grade. It's the games that matter. 1080p/60 most certainly *enhances* the experience, but that's all they do: enhance what should already be a great experience. If an experience isn't great in the first place, no amount of pixels will make anyone want to play it more. This isn't to say higher resolutions aren't important, but it's the game itself that matters the most.
Respected people arnt necessarily respected people forever.
Im sorry I dont want to be mislead by shameless PR and buzzwords.

Wut? I loved my N64 and Mario 64 is still one of the greatest games I've ever played.Coming out of a generation where Xbox fans and Sony fans alike took a shit all over Nintendo fans for 8 very long years for comments just like this, I have to say this brings the sweetest smile to my face. They've become what they hated for 8 years.
