Adam Sessler's: On Xbox One and PS4's Resolutiongate, and Day One Patches

And that's a fine stance to take, but that's not something I felt was necessary for me to do. Not to necessarily shite on your opinion, but having great fun with my friends for years to come is more important to me than the difference between 720p and 1080p in certain games.

It sucks your friends aren't better informed.

Does GAF even play 'games'?

I can't wait for 11/15.

This has been an epic, one-sided obliteration of an American Tech Titan.

Now, it's time to play games... in 1080P/60FPS!

Adios Microsoft. I'll send flowers to the funeral.

this whole resolutiongate is blown way outta proportion.

newsflash , all three consoles support 60fps 1080p games. its a shame console games cant have user selectable resolution / graphic settings like a PC so if you want to substitute resolution for framrate or vise versa, you can.

The thread I saw about that was just speculation, and was locked before any real info came around. What's the deal? Was it really just that he wasn't getting free stuff?

It was about having to go to a controlled launch review event to get their PS4s. So really it was about not getting free stuff on his terms.

So, after I watched today's Sessler's Something, I thought the whole argument was odd, since I remember Adam Sessler's pretty much arguing that his expectation were always 1080p/60 for these two new consoles, and that they needed to something more.

So I looked up the video from his panel he did last June for this year's Screw Attack Gaming Convention, and well....

Certainly, Adam Sessler has always said that games needs to innovate and show us(the consumers and the press) what a next gen concept is, but he certainly expected both the XBox One, and PS4 to be 1080p/60.

So now that we have confirmation that one system is clearly having issues with it, what changed in Sessler's expectations?

Bahaha.

Detective GAF wins again.

Detective GAF.

FYI, He says it around 1:40, his quote is "these systems better be 60FPS at 1080p"

damn Adam, what has changed?

I like Sessler but he's repeating the same misunderstanding of the argument I keep hearing over and over. We're not saying that graphics are more important than gameplay, we're saying that it's a serious issue when a considerably less expensive console offers the same games with substantially better visuals.

Would be nice Adam to read this post and then re-examine what he said in that video.

Uh, in the past week I have heard this same exact brand of spin from people at IGN, Polygon, Sessler, 8-4 Play podcast, Cheapy D, and GiantBomb.

To call this an isolated incident would not be true at all. There is literally an XB1 defense being put on by the media this past week, in response to the XB1 finally be outed for what it is. The most expensive console by $100, and the weakest by a fair margin.

It's embarrassing to watch paid "professionals" behave this way.

But people have acknowledged that the PS4 is more powerful. They acknowledged Call of Duty and Battlefield run at a difference resolution. If you're planning to buy COD and BF4, PS4 is your system if your decision is based solely on graphics. That's an established fact. What else needs to be said, that hasn't already been said in order the satisfy the blood lust that some people have over this situation?

Lol I'm telling you Y2Kev is right it's not being paid off , it's not ms bias, these guys just hate their audience and love to take the opposite opinion. It's strange really. It's like retail workers who hate their customers and think everything they do us assholish and a massive burden.

Well of course he wouldn't, that would be a little too overt. But his comment proved he watched the video, and his comment was a form of approval without being blatant about it.

Eh. I'd rather just let Sessler's confusing argument speak for itself rather than try reach for a conspiracy in a tweet.

Sorry if this insinuation offends anyone but it seems Revision3 is partnered with MS and has an ap for 360 gold members. So surprise surprise it probably is damage control.

Quantity over quality is the metric?
How do you know those games on that list aren't quality? Have you played them all?

I don't know about you, but I'd much rather have a big bag full of stuff that could possibly turn out good than a small bag of stuff that could possibly turn out good. But that's me...

why they didn't run a news story on Cod720

Along with Brad saying (on gaf) that the average person won't care. The average person doesn't visit gaming websites though, so I dunno where he's going with that.
Ahahaha surprise, fucking surprise. The same jackasses who did everything they could to avoid the whole DRM fiasco also don't want to touch this. I'm fucking SHOCKED over here.

I don't know why people like Giantbomb. They're not even subtle about being complete fucking sell outs.

I haven't seen it, but did he actually say, "I didn't report on the Call of Duty resolution stuff because I only have a 720p TV"?

He didn't exactly say it like that.

As someone that owns a TV that only goes up to 1080i, I actually don’t really care about 1080p. But there’s a middle ground here, right? Some folks are acting like the sky is falling because of the 720p/1080p split, which is disingenuous because it’s launch time and we’re so quick to forget the problems PS3 games had at the start, too. Most developers I’ve talked to said this won’t continue to be a problem in the future. (Real talk: games are not going to be 60fps/1080p this generation. Want that? Get a PC.)

The dismissive nature from some writers probably stems from exhaustion at watching people tear each other apart over these machines. Every day, it’s a new thing. Every day, it’s another forum thread. I’ll be nice when these machines just came out, so we could actually have something to argue about.

I'd rather not have the speculation about money exchanging hands and keep the arguments to Sessler saying 4 months ago the consoles better be 1080p/60 and now he says they shouldn't be.

well adam himself did admit he wasn't even a "gamer" until he accidentally got the job at gamespot

Yeah, it's the same way with local sports journalists. There are some guys that utterly hate the fans in my market, and always take the opposite opinion of the majority, and stir up controversy to get hits.

That's it exactly. Dead on. To paraphrase Clerks: "This job would be great if it wasn't for all the gamers".

It sucks your friends aren't better informed.

They are, we've been intently discussing both consoles since the February PS4 reveal. We're all very open minded, its just a matter of preference. There's just more things we like about the Xbone over the PS4, and price wasn't really as big of an issue since this is something we are "investing" in for 6+ years. Obviously you feel otherwise, but we all have opinions.

God damnit, I've been a fan of Adam Sessler since 2000, when I started watching Gamespot TV. I grew up in high school watching Extended Play and X-Play. I had over 20,000 posts primarily in the X-Play section of the G4 forums in the mid-2000s, but this is just indefensible.

What is this guy doing? Is he intentionally trying to sabotage his career? I've known and trusted this guy for 13 fucking years and now he's seemingly completely lost it. It's truly disappointing.

I thought going to Rev3 was actually going to be a great career move for him, but his behavior in the last several months has been pretty unacceptable.

this is the best detective-gaf work I've seen in awhile

Ok, no one find it fucking weird that every major outlet is making apologist responses for Microsoft? What the fuck is wrong with these people?

Like do these people not understand that it's the same game, one version just looks better? Everyone of these "resolutiongate" responses always delves into "I want the games artistic design to be more interesting rather than it look better than the competitors," no fucking shit but that's not the point being discussed here.
It's called "a strawman" and MS apologists have been favoring that argument quite a lot lately. It's all part of the bargaining phase.
