Game Informer: "Ryse: Son Of Rome Is As Fun As Dialing Phone Numbers" (ouch)

Dan Ryckert is generally a really positive person too. He even recently wrote an article about how people need to lighten up because games are so fun. So, it's very surprising to hear him blast a game.

Heh, yeah that is a good point. I really liked that article too. Was very spot on.

He should clarify if it is dialing button phone numbers or old school spinning phones. Cause spinning phones were fun.

Lair 2.

It will still sell over a million regardless of quality because A) launch title and B) popular thematic setting.

I don't know if I have ever seen a more negative preview done by Game Informer. If I was getting an XBone at launch, this is probably what I would have gotten. Nevermind that.

Seems like we can't go a day without crippling X1 news.

DR3 and Ryse were supposed to be two of the main games that made the X1 "superior" to the ps4 at launch, at least that's what i heard.

Weird. I played it at PAX Prime for 30 min, and not only did it have the most complicated control layout of anything I'd played on the floor, it was also actually quite interesting to try different moves and chains.

Unless the vertical slice I played was simply the best part of the game? Probably.

Sounds about right. The gameplay looks as terrible as ever but yeah, the graphics sure look nice (dat animation though...).

hey man, rotary phones are fun to dial.

So will Ryse occupy the Red Steel Shitty Launch Game That Sells Well Due To Being a Launch Game slot for the Xbone?

It's a pity the story and gameplay both suck, it could have at least delivered Spartacus-style crazy action.

The game looks beautiful, but I could see that this game was going to be a QTE fest from the demos. That's too bad. It could've been a good idea.. They need Dark Souls combat and remove the QTEs..

Well, looks like the dumptruck of XB1 info is off to a great start...

On topic, not massively surprised. XB1 has some good stuff at launch, but Ryse never really struck me as something worth picking up the box for.

Oddly enough, if you press the wrong button when prompted, you'll only be penalized some points and Marius will still give the death stroke, which I found detracted a bit from the weight of well-timed and accurate button presses. If I'm being rewarded for performing the wrong action, what's driving me to be better and master the game's systems?

Ummm....

RYSE, SON OF LAIR.

INHERIT THY FATHER'S WORTH.

I looked at people playing this at PAX and the preview is spot-on.

It sucks because I really wanted the game to be good.

At least Killer Instinct did not disappoint. Only game worth getting at launch if you're not into Forza imho.

Quick, someone find that Crytek quote where they say that graphics are 60% of the quality of a game.
