Super Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS Thread 3: Ridley's Believe It or Not!

Don't worry, it's just a matter of time until everyone's favorite is revealed.

ahh, back when Nintendo didn't give a fuck

I think they'll later make Lucina playable in Marth's place. Sakurai will decide it, it's only a matter of time.

Nile River, Arabic Baḥr Al-Nīl or Nahr Al-Nīl, river, the father of African rivers and the longest river in the world. It rises south of the Equator and flows northward through northeastern Africa to drain into the Mediterranean Sea. It has a length of about 4,132 miles (6,650 kilometres) and drains an area estimated at 1,293,000 square miles (3,349,000 square kilometres). Its basin includes parts of Tanzania, Burundi, Rwanda, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Kenya, Uganda, South Sudan, Ethiopia, Sudan, and the cultivated part of Egypt. Its most distant source is the Kagera River in Burundi.

He means it's never going to happen!

When will the arguments with Lucina replacing Marth end??

lol but seriously

What.

I think too many people were introduced to fire emblem through awakening to not have a playable character. Especially since there is a 3DS version. Imo, at the expense of Ike id like to see Chrom if that's the only way. Also I think they did a good job in designing Marth color-wise. The blue is not overwhelming but still vibrant like the colors in this game, his black chest and shoulder plate and boots are a nice touch. Theywould definitely contrast to Chrom's dark blue and white attire.

Ike doesn't fight for you.

Controversial statement time! I’m not nearly as convinced that there’s going to be a Fire Emblem newcomer as I was a few months ago. Here’s the problem I have with Chrom: what exactly does he bring to the table that other characters don’t already have?

blahblah

I wholeheartedly feel that Chrom is the only plausible Fire Emblem newcomer candidate, which is what worries me. The only way to make his inclusion seem warranted is to pair him up with Lucina or Robin as a tag character, but I’m not sure how feasible that would be mechanically. Sakurai couldn’t get the Diddy and Dixie team to work in Brawl, after all.

You are right. Chrom doesn't really have many unique features from Marth. As least Ike was different in almost every way, other than being a swordsman from the FE series. He was bulky and slow with strong attacks.

Chrom seems to have the same physique as Marth, I don't know exactly what Sakurai would do to make Chrom different other than just giving different move animations. The same applies with Lucina.

I do believe a tag team is still possible. Unlike Diddy and Dixie, who would definitely have to be different moveset-wise, Chrom and Lucina could be similar in both stature and speed.

I think a 2-in-1 character switch could work for them, like the Ice Climbers, but maybe you wouldn't control them at the same time, but one would follow behind and you switch whenever? I dunno...

It'll be interesting to see how Sakurai approaches the Fire Emblem characters with so many to choose from. I probably won't mind whatever he does with Fire Emblem, personally.

I too would love to see some FE:A representation, or just some more FE:A representation as a whole, but lets remember that Marth is in FE:A, Masked Marth is part of the game, and there is also Marth DLC that came free for the first month or so.

Now if we get an FE:A Marth costume along with the mask and a voice change, I would be overjoyed. Although somehow I doubt it would happen alternate costume provide a very exciting opportunity and both costumes are distinct enough now

A Marth and Lucina pair-up doesn't necessarily mean they have to have different movesets or have the ability to 'switch' between characters, and we don't know the exact reasons why the Diddy and Dixie pair-up was scrapped in Brawl. Personally while I like both Kongs I think it was a kind of dumb idea to base that purely off their appearance in DKC2 and comparable to having Mario and Luigi or Sonic and Tails tied together in a moveset, just because. Unless he's said otherwise Sakurai could have come to the same realization and held Dixie off for when she became more relevant to justify being an individual newcomer (... like now thanks to Tropical Freeze :V).

Mega Man is in Mr. G&W's spot and Sonic is in Snake's spot! Awful, inaccurate image.

pretty cool, wouldn't be surprised if the game used a similar style character select
I'm still going by my prediction that if the two games have a different colour scheme for the menus the Wii U's will be black to reflect the Wii U's primary colour scheme.

I mean N64's was kinda dark greyish, Melee's was a bit purpley and Brawls was rather white so it's a logical guess. Of course this could all be coincidence and Sakurai may opt for the cleaner look like the Wii U's menus and return to the light colour scheme as seen in both Brawl and Kid Icarus.

That and I have no idea what the 3DS' primary colour scheme is seen as now. It's been quite a while since we've seen the blue 3DS being shown off.

Some people have the notion drilled into their head that the most recent Fire Emblem hero is always a shoo-in, but there’s not enough evidence to support that. Roy was a last minute clone who wasn’t initially planned for Melee, and Ike offers unique gameplay in that he’s a heavy swordsman (who featured in two FE installments). Chrom doesn’t have much going for him other than the fact that he’s kind of new… but so what? He just seems like a really safe, bland, vanilla pick to me. Of course, not every newcomer is going to be groundbreaking, but there needs to be something that sets Chrom apart from Marth or Ike, and I’m not really seeing what that could be. Visually, emotionally, and mechanically, he just isn’t a distinct character. I’ve heard suggestions that he could utilize lances, but that’s not really a staple of Chrom as a character — it’s too much of a reach for the sake of making him feel unique. He’s foremost a swordsman, and that’s the condensed version of Chrom that would surely be put into Smash Bros.

Honestly, I would love if sakurai made lyn a playable character, she deserves it.

I want to point out how broken they would be in an IC-like pair. Disjointed hit boxes and scary good grabs (even if CGing doesn't return) is all just simply terrifying

I love Ike like a virtual FE brother. We've been through many battles, we learned together, lost many allies, slayed many dragons and laguz, we tried to hook up with Mia that one time, we laughed and cried together at the RNG fuckups, and went from rag to riches in the many playthroughs we played together...Ike fought for his friends plain and simple...and ill always remember those times. But its time to make room for other players who have gotten into the series.

:3 saying that I don't mind seeing him gone but that's not even gaurenteed.

Ike was my introduction to the series, so I am way more attached to him than Chrom. Like many others have said, I don't see any interesting moveset potential for Chrom or Lucina. Cutting Ike in favor of clones or semi-clones doesn't entice me, neither does giving Chrom Ike's moves. If there is an Awakening character I hope it is in addition to Ike.

Eh, I don't really think it's comparable. Tag team gameplay is a defining characteristic of the DKC series -- having a pair character would have nicely represented the gist of those games.

Unless he's said otherwise Sakurai could have come to the same realization and held Dixie off for when she became more relevant to justify being an individual newcomer (... like now thanks to Tropical Freeze :V).
Sakurai said that the Diddy/Dixie team was scrapped due to mechanical problems.

I see Fire Emblem in Marth's face.

I get what you're saying. I like to think in the worst case lol. I feel Sakurai would be able to differentiate Chrom from the others no matter how silly 3. Blue swordsmen would be. Hehe

So I looked up a few places to see why Marth was revealed today, and I can safely say there are no dates that involve Marth in anyway that collaborate with November 7th at all.

So yes Sakurai once again has thrown us off the game trying to find any semblance of patterns.
