12 minute Xbox One dashboard demo

As someone who switched to the ps4 this gen, I hope sony changes its os to look a little bit sleeker (hate the way it looks but love its external design). Maybe its because I'm used to the 360 but this looks better to me. It's not gonna change my mind but it does look great.

Still find the kinect creepy as fuck. Might be ok for people who stream their life already but I wouldn't buy it. Kinda crazy that there's about to be this super advanced surveillance system out there that really has nothing to do with games at all.

Could of sworn it was said that the entire OS was a disaster and that snap was just apart of it.

Just checked, but seems like you are half right. But not necessarily general OS features, but things involving network connectivity and XBL. Specifically...

"Things like parties dropping people when moving from one thing to another. Connectivity issues. Missed invites. Friend requests not working, etc."

Don't give a fuck about what haters say, that was phenomenal.

Absolutely phenomenal. The dash is the god damned killer app.

Very good presentation of the dashboard. I liked it.
What bothers me is that the "game clip recorded" pop-up wasn't metro.

I'll show you my stuff, Xbox

Finaly finished watching it.

I would really like to try that...

You can unplug it.

Pretty underwhelming to me: Everything seems to react kind of slow, especially the Kinect. And overall, the UI is pretty unpleasant to the eye and is potentially laid out in a way that doesn't seem to aid usability.

As a Sony fandboy buying a PS4, I'm jealous of a lot of what I just saw... that was really great.

What is there to be jealous of?

I am shocked that you were underwhelmed.

Having app channels be on the guide will be quite useful. Hopefully I can directly access my queues from there. Overall, very nice looking, very quick.

Hmm, interesting. I guess people will have to take special care to not push their game out of the queue lest they risk losing saved progress and the like.

Unless they've coded in a way to give games priority so that they're always in the queue and always available.

No way games are in that queue. Only whatever is running on the apps side of the virtual machine.

How very out of character for you.

UI looks great.
Integration looks awesome.

But as before i'm still not convinced how this can be a major selling point for what still is a game console, i think that there will be fierce competition with smart TV with the camera, gestures, voice recognition things.
And outside the anglosaxon world, many of the services they are demoing are absent.

With that said,it is like looking in the future with that integration in the living room: i dont know who will rule this future if ms or apple or google or samsung but this time MS is actually not trying to catch up but opening a new road, will be interesting to see the results.
Then if this kind of living room integration is something with market potential is yet to see.

Seems weird, again, trying to open this road with a game console with that high entry price and demographic: but who knows?

That was mighty impressive. Best OS in this upcoming generation yet I would say.

If I import a Xbox One to Scandinavia (official launch i 2014) this month, will I be able to make a UK Xbox Live account so that I can use the Kinect voice commands, and be able to play US/UK games region free on my console? How will I be able to purchase XBLA games and will DLC be free?

Er... every feature PS4 won't have?

The reverse logic applies. If I was going to buy Xbox, I'd be mad-jelly for VitaTV, Remote Play, Gaikai and the longer built-in sharing limit.

It's not a deal-breaker, but being human, I think it's normal to be jealous of stuff others have and you don't, and be irrational in wishing it has everything.

Like, I'm not a music-buff, and I would never use Garage Band in any reasonable shape or form, but I'm always jealous that Android don't have a similar app for me to play around with.

This was the one I was kinda blown away by. Super handy. Sure you will still have to load the app on selection but having things quede up in one uniform space. Well, its cool.

Okay that was crazy. If not the console itself is next gen then at least the UI is. Makes what has been seen from PS4 look dated and WiiU, even after the updates, is just a joke compared to this. Good job MS. Now could you let me know when it's launching in Sweden, please?

Who is this and what have you done with netBuff.

Cool ! The X1 is a great OS machine with lots of genre available : Action OS, RPG OS, FPS OS...Please be excited to play all of these OS' in a near future... :-P !!! ;-)

Other than the fact that what they showed seemed to work well that was the most interesting to me. All of the features they showed have been shown to death. At least if you've been following every leak and tiny bit of official content. If that guide is useful for normal TV viewing then having Netflix, Hulu etc all right there without having to load up those apps first this will be cool. I wish it integrated your DVR recordings too, but somehow I doubt it. Theoretically it could if Comcast let the Xbox log into your Comcast profile since the content of your DVR's are shown on the website.

Pretty impressed with that.

Bing search looking through everything - apps, store, tv - is a pretty great feature. As is the notifications popping in over tv.

I like everything I see, but the gamer inside me is so pissed off that they will always be behind the PS4 spec wise, and that mutiplatform games will not be on par. But I will probably buy one just for the exclusives down the road..

The specs thing is starting to bother me less and less (thanks in part to videos like this and the recent Forza 5 and KI footage) but I do agree that this being underpowered in comparison to PS4 still pisses me off...

If X1 was equal in power it wouldn't even be close for me, X1 would be my primary console of choice.

Stupid MS!

That looked really good. Honestly, if MS didn't fuck up so bad with the reveals for Xbox One I think I would be excited for it but they have lost my trust.

I'm already experiencing this. I want to play Battlefield on PS4 because it will run better and I can sit in bed and use Remote Play, but some of the Xbox Live stuff like the matchmaking, and doing other things while it's doing that makes me want to play on Xbox One. Where is my PSXboxOne with everything truly all in one!

They would have if they could. Only so much money to throw around.

That was brilliant.

After almost getting sucked in to the "everything is about 1080p" bullcrap, this video reminded me why I actually pre-ordered a console for the first time in my life.

Its about more than games to me and this video could not have tapped into that any better.

The television features/One Guide are what impressed me the most though. Instead of simply being a custom looking overlay, its literally a custom content browser that encapsulates all media available to you. I've been trying to explain in essay length posts how XB1 intends to integrate itself directly into every TV interaction for all people in the house (not just gamers) but the video finally showed it better than I could have explained.

The Kinect controls also worked much better than I imagined, especially with the profile switching, instant recognition when it sees you (and visual acknowledgement/feedback from the system) and being able to specifically tell it which channel you'd like to view. I hope the part where Whitten says "Xbox: Select" and then simply gives separate commands without having to say "Xbox" first extends to other parts of the UI.

I think this video could easily sell an XB1 to people who aren't even interested in gaming or technologically inclined. Especially the Skype, One Guide and app demos.

Come on November 22nd!!!

I thought that was pretty great. And as someone that's getting both consoles at launch -- it's awesome to see it shaping up well.

The only really disappointing thing is it seems that the talk of Twitch live-streaming not making launch is true, as I didn't see any option like that anywhere on the dash. That feature is what I'm the most excited for on these consoles. And that means I'm probably going to prioritize PS4 games right out of the gate. Once MS gets that on XBO, I'll be set.

a cool feauture is still seeing game invites and skype invites while watching tv.

will this work for every tv? i mean should my cable provider be supported or can i just plug my cable box inside the xbox one and be able to use the features they showed in the video?

Loved the video, a few more would be fantastic. Looking forward to the easy suspending of games, son is 5 and I don't like him watching me play the likes of COD etc. If he's out with the wife I don't like playing the games thinking I'm going to have to get to a checkpoint etc before I have to turn it off, suspending it means it 's quick and I can get back into it real quick.

Looks absolutely amazing. These are the kinds of things that are most exciting about next gen imo.

Instant switching between people's "Favorites" guide (and profiles in general) is going to be amazing with my family. Didn't realize you could do that switching so seamlessly

Looks fantastic. Two weeks left and I still have no idea which next gen console to get. Urgh
Same here.

I've got my PS4 pre-ordered and payed off, but the only things that I find interesting on that platform right now are Killzone and the new controller. The Xbox One has a ton of shit that I really want to mess around with in terms of the OS/Kinect, and all of the exclusive launch games. I'm really waiting until the review embargo ends on the 12th (iirc) to find out how well the games are running on Xbox before I switch my pre-order.
