12 minute Xbox One dashboard demo

Wow, very cool stuff. A lot of that stuff isn't relevant to me (I don't have cable, don't use skype, don't play a lot of online gaming on consoles), but I'm still very impressed. Microsoft really should have been doing more promos of this type of stuff so people could see what it can really do.

lol. MS really can't do anything right here.

great showing and features. love the kinect stuff. i don't get the hate here. if you don't like what you see, get the ps4 or a pc.

In a perfect world people would just tend to focus on what they want instead of actually spending more time talking about stuff they don't want. Even Neogaf, which to me represents the most mature site for gaming, gets its fill of haters and overly pessimistic members. In fact a few of them are familiar in this very thread. No matter how good something looks they will always have some criticism. Like I said earlier, it's probably best to ignore them because they want the conversation to stray away of anything positive.

It is opinionated, but those were the threads that surfaced up there with many pages of discussion.

Those stuff happened concurrently, I'm just sharing what I saw of the situation. I'm speaking of the aggregation of the news on GAF across different peaks of the news cycle.

As for what I wrote down there, please don't assume that was my opinion. I just 'estimated' the overall mood of the high traffic threads. If you bother checking my post history, I didn't say shit about Ryse or the Titanfall situation, but the overall perspective towards it was negative, so I wrote it as I saw it.

I think there's a mild misunderstanding on your end, and on my end, I did something rude by perpetuating what seemed like a hivemind perspective of the news that happened.

Let's close this amicably, shall we?
Never wasn't inamicable- no worries here.

I dont give 2 shits about the TV feature. But Skype seems really cool with kinect. For me, not woth 100$ extra, but the fluid OS, fast switching, kinect seems stable with voice commands etc. Real nice. MS knows software.

Skype:
- the video of Yusef and the other guy in the right corner is delayed by 1+sec during a Skype call. Why is that? If the Kinect is right there showing you you, shouldn't it be in sycn? Maybe it has to match the incoming call.
- at 7:39, it shows an Incoming Call from the same guy they just communicated with that already taken place. Is that like a Skype History Icon or another icon showing another call coming? Was there a real call? :)

Looks neato but I wouldn't use voice features too much.

Also, how would this work on say my computer desk using a 27 inch monitor with Kinect? Does it need a minimum distance to be away from me? People at computer desks sit close to the monitor eh.

Skype always has a little lag when I use it. That incoming call was for Marc from the same guy hence the blue tiles. Yusuf answered the call so I'm thinking they didn't know which person would be receiving it so they had him send a call to both guys

No idea about your desk situation

Yes they do and even getting into multiplayer events on the XBox 360 showed it's advantages but I and others obviously want more of a commitment from them when it comes to 1st party game support, especially later on during the XBox One's lifetime.

Wow, looks good. Surprised that MS got their UI demo out before Sony. Everything is nice and smooth. But man, that friends list always looked bad to me...so much clutter. Navigating that looks very slow.

Good job MS for showing this off!

"Ketchup TV"

Where was snap?

Otherwise, it looks great. I wasn't blown away because Windows 8 is still leaving a bad taste in my mouth but it seems much easier to navigate than early glimpses seemed to indicate.

Now, I just need Sony to do the same.

Maybe then you'll come up with a proper counterpoint and not one that is contemptuous and ridiculous.
If the rumor said that snap doesn't work in-game, then it was presented working in-game, you shouldn't add extra conditions to make the original rumor appear reliable. That's all.

Personally I'm more concerned/intrigued by Sony. Sony is launching 1st and we haven't seen anywhere near as much from Sony....

Meh, that is typical of Sony.

Remember the lead-up to Gamescom where Sony was practically quiet as a mouse, while MS was revealing Xbox news daily?

All signs point towards an OS demonstration concurrently with their review event/launch celebration on the 11/12th. They like doing their stuff at their events, rather than break it down sporadically.

You have to learn to ignore it, it will be present in every MS thread

course I am not always good at taking my own advice :P

I totally want an XB1 now (more for Xbox Fitness but this is icing) but that ebates/paypal deal I got for the PS4 was too good to pass up

Here's hoping EBgames runs some good trade in promo's (PS3 and WiiU) by january :P

This looks pretty cool and Xbox Fitness is very impressive. Good stuff MS. Still would like a price cut though. :/

I have to say, amazing UI stuff.

I was never keen on saying XBOX to the current Kinect but this seemed to be a lot more built in and streamlined then tacked on.

The Skype and TV stuff was pretty cool. I hope the TV providers steal the functionality and start putting it into their set top boxes, then I can use all of my systems and communicate with people who aren't going to own an Xbox (or any games).

Does anyone know how the suspend/resume feature will work across games? For instance, if I am playing Forza and suspend it, and then put in Ryse and later suspend that, can I come back to Forza from the same save state I had before?

It looks alright but I'm not sure why everyone is praising it so highly. Surely this was the bare minimum expected with the hardware behind it? Couldn't most of this voice navigation be done before now?

Oh, totally. It looks super cool, but for me it remains to be seen how much real-world use some of these features will get.

Different strokes for different folks, obviously.

TV-integration and Kinect will be useless here... since Asia, and MS hates to support us.

So for someone like me, while the OS is really cool, I step and realise I'm Tier-5 from MS's perspective in terms of actually being able to use the features as richly demonstrated.

Really fascinated how Sony and MS are diverging with their offerings and strategies. I'm finding it increasingly harder to draw a strict one-to-one comparison between the two machines.

Sony's obviously going all-in on the gamer; MS really is going for the media hub.

Personally, I prefer two different visions. We'll see who's right. Or, less wrong.

They have done studies and know how much activity is actually being spent outside of gaming. In fact the PS3 is the most popular streaming device. Which to me seems odd for two reasons. One is the PS3 is not the most popular device in North America (not sure how popular Netflix is outside of NA), and secondly many consider the PS3 to be the more hardcore gaming platform of the three major players.

I don't know about Netflix because I don't have a Netflix account, but I have both a 360 and a PS3, and I use the PS3 for Hulu Plus over the 360. The Hulu app is a mess on the former. Lots of micro-stutter and audio/video sync issues. Plus whenever it goes to commercial, sometimes it never returns to the program after the commercials are done airing/seems to freeze/etc. And the quality of the stream is lousy too.

I have none of these issues on my PS3. Streams flawlessly.

lol bare minimum? What do you expect this machine to do? Give you a hand jooooob?

Maybe I missed it, but can't anyone in the room just say "xbox go home" and ruin your gaming experience?

sure but just like in anything, griefing is possible. my kids could also easily grab remote and start changing channels and start ruining my nfl experience.
