Because it is more accurate? Others games boost the sound to fell more sexy... not real life.

Of course, there are a lot of cars with bad sound but most of the premium ones are really close to real life sound.

PS. You need a good surround system to get the right sound on GT5.
 
I'm disappointed the Ferrari F1 cars aren't there now. I was hoping for more F1 cars, most likely would be Red Bull since the relationship between them and PD is seemingly close.

There are a lot of cars with bad sound in GT5 but the premium ones are accurate... and each car/model have a different sound so you need to compare one by one.

Nobody can really say without knowing the technical insider stuff.

I think everything else going on just didn't allow for a better sound engine. But it's good to know that they are working on it.

Saying that though, one thing that GT5 got right with sound, is how different views make it sound different.

When you are driving in cockpit view, it actually had that muffled sound you get in a car. As opposed to games like Forza and Shift, which sound like you have the engine strapped to the side of your head.

There isn't official info on it, but it likely just comes down to how they process the sound. They obviously aren't using the raw samples that they take from each car and instead of putting it through some program that ends up messing it up and often causing it to have a muffled or computerized sound. The good news is that they've acknowledged that there are issues with it and are working on a solution that may or may not make it into GT6 through a patch.

A few premiums were good, but even the racecars lacked gearbox whine, rattles, etc.

And weight reduction should change the cockpit sound but it doesn't.

I know but what the people seems to says they want a artificial sound like Forza, N4S and others... I don't want that... I want a accurate sound... GT is more close to be accurate that the others games at least.

Right on, I appreciate it. I haven't been following the series as closely as I used to, so I wasn't sure if I missed an interview or anything where they mentioned it.

And yes, a small few of the premium models sound okay, but nothing sounds like it should. I am a huge racing fan and I have been to too many races to count and I can tell you that real life cars sound much more raw than anything in GT and even in Forza. Very few racing games seem to get it right, but it has always bugged me that the GT series always seems to be lagging in that department.

Is that a fact or your opinion? Maybe it is supposed to be for me for me. Besides that, I'm not inside the cars of my competitors. When I'm racing against them, they should sound good to give me those 'immersive' feels.

And many premium cars sound off. You don't have to have an impressive sound system to hear the differerence. Many cars have that same modulated basic tone that sucks the juice out of it. Exhaust notes also vary wildly between different premium cars.

Just stop. We are all GT fans here, and only a sad few still cling to this desperate bullshit excuse. You can polish a turd, but it is still turd at the end of the day. Give it up, and move on. GT has always had inexcusably bad sound. No we don't want Mountain Dew to the veins Shift "enhanced" garbage. But GT needs to dramatically address their sound issues for next gen.

I think the frustrating thing about it is when you're in the menus where each car starts up and you wonder why that isn't what they sound like on the track

FUCK YES! I used to just scroll through the car list in GT5 and listen to each car start up. The classic Lancer Rally car was one of my favorites to listen to.

And then you get in the car and it is just disappointing.
 
Agreed, I have thousands in my home theater system and it helps GT5's sound NONE... if anything a good surround sound system and subwoofer accentuates the flaws in the audio.

I absolutely LOVE GT5 and am uber HYPED about GT6... but that doesn't prevent me from being honest, and if i'm being honest, I've got to admit that the engine sounds are painfully bad.

Sorry but it is not bullshit... there are good and bad sounds in GT5... the good ones looks close to real-life models but people just says the bullshit "GT5 sound is off".

But I agree they need to get better... it is always a constant improvement.

PS. The sound system used changes everything in terms of sound in GT5... I did a lot of tests... you can believe or not.

TVR Speed 12 was my favorite. That deep rumbling, raw, bass... a vicious sound. To bad that sound was not recreated when behind the wheel.

Yes that's bullshit. A youtube video of a real car sounds ok even on the shittiest mono speaker, the car sound in GT just leaves much to be desired, get over it already.

Having F1 cars is nice and the models are beautiful, but at least for me the F1 has one of the worst driving models of GT5 (even if Kaz once said it was the best), together with the gokart physics, which are horrendous as well.

Yes bullshit because we listen mono in real-life... you need a good setup to have accuracy when you compare what you hear from real-life with something recorded.

We don't have the full car list yet, so they could still be in there. I actually wonder how big of an emphasis cars will be for the DLC as they haven't really talked about them. Their focus seems to be on adding new tracks. They've said that once GT6 is released they'll add at least one new track every month.

I have accuracy, and the sounds in GT5 are bad nonetheless.

Center: Klipsch XL-12
Front - Left & Right: Klipsch RB-81's
Rear - Left & Right: Klipsch RB-51's
Side - Left & Right: Klipsch Xl-12's
Subwoofer: Outlaw Audio LFM-1 EX

The directional sound in the game is very good (cars approaching / passing / in the distance)... but the engine sounds themselves are flat & synthetic in my opinion. They lack the raw audible quality of power. They lack the grunt and bass of torque. They are disappointing.

I made this months ago in anticipation of the GT6 reveal... unfortunately my hopes for better sound have not come to fruition.

There is a complete lack of transmission noises, turbo blow offs all sound the same, the tire screech has been the same for a few games and is linear and does not include the all important tire "chirp" of threshold braking and lateral loading, the cock pit sounds of LM and full fledge race cars are stagnant and contain the exact same generic wind wooshing noises that are present in a cozzy, super sound isolated street Mercedes.

That is just to start, and notice I didn't even have to mention engine noises to start the laundry list of short comings in the GT sound department. Is surround going to sound better than stereo? Sure, but you are just making the same garbage sound FXs sound better. I can easily drive GT5 on mute or with music playing, because the sound provides such meaningless feed back. A game like iRacing, I can barely drive a lap without the sound fx.
 
I love GT, but theres no defending engine sounds in it. Sure, some cars sound accurate but they are exeptions to the rule.

The karts are bad but the F1 cars were fun.
 
Car sounds are the new damage. Everyone will bitch about and with good reason. In the end that´s their next big improvament. I´m sure they will change a bit for GT7.

It´s not just the engine notes, there´s a lot more going on with the car that produces sounds that are not emulated.

One word defines sound in GT: Sterile.

Sure you have some good notes from 3.000-6.000 rpms on cars like the Gallardo or the Z06 vette, but some cars (like 90% of them) are just so horrid is like disrespectful, like the 787b or the new HSVSuperGT. Add in a muffler and even you´re OK cars now sound like blowdryers.

I´ve worked on a radiostation before and there´s lots of things you can do to improve this area. No need for excuses, it´s just that they´ve always thought it was good enough, but i think now they are starting to realise how much the sound is important to the overall experience.

As i´ve said before, the best thing gamers did to prove how much the play by play on sports games are trash was to dub real gameplay with real life play by play. The difference is incredible.

Same thing should be done in GT. In car hotlap dubbed with real life sounds, even if it´s from crappy compressed youtube videos.

We all love GT to death, but it´s important to call them out on their shortcomings. Sound is horrible and needs to change completely.

Lack of accurate and unique transmission noises I should clarify. The generic whine blends into the "vacuum" sounds for me.
 
I bought a ps3 for GT5 when it launched and the sound is what instantly put me off unfortunatley. The most previous GT Game I played was 2 back on the ps1 and it seemed like they hadn't improved the sound at all. Though, I must say I had just come from playing forza 3 and it had incredible notes.

Hoping GT6 fixes some of the issues I had with 5.

It is.

Only m5 and Gallardo do sound "good" (and very few other) but they are still sounding artificial especially when you change gear.

Most of GT5 car engines are low rpm sample pitched to reach those max rpm instead of recording whole range of RPM. Few premium cars use even same samples as GT4 cars just remastered.

As mentioned lack of transmission sound upon gear change, lack of road sound beside standard "noise", if you hit bump in road you hardly hear it. Complete lack of car body sound under stress. lack of proper intake sound.

And no. Shit sound in 8.1 PCM is still shit sound. Sound recorded via cam in GT5 should sound like in real life according to your theory. But it doesn't because it is shit and lack ton of things.

What GT5 does good is multichannel mixing so you will hear for example properly doppler effect. BUT IT DOESN'T make shit sound better.

Kaz himself said this is problem because PS3 has small memory pool and they hope they will patch it in GT6 or it will be in GT7.

My opinion ? Don't expect new sounds in GT6


And stop using "in real life" comparison because i drive cars daily and anyone here driving car can pretty much sum it up as "bullshit"

They also need to improve damage model. Or at least introduce it properly ingame instead of being option.
