Kotaku introduces the Amazon Playstation Network Store

Also what the hell could Sony be hiding for Thursday if they let Kotaku drop this bomb?? Lol Sony in the trenches

Bloodthirsty sony is best sony

xb 1 better be prepared, I sense a global offensive campaign during the 1 week leading up to xb 1 launch. offense is the best defense after all, Sony will be dropping bombs after bombs to make people cancel xb1 preorder. lol

Sorry if this was already asked/answered but it's a big thread:

Could this mean that stuff like the Humble Bundle could exist for the PS4? Or even GMG inegration?

If Sony offers the openness that exists on Steam on their digital store we could see a game changer right here.

I assume Valve makes money off games sold on GMG and the Humble Bundle so no reason for Sony not to allow it too. If Amazon can do it others should too...

These kinds of deals don't just turn up out of nowhere.

Sony must have been 100% ready to dole out the same damage they received when 360 came early.

I posted this earlier, but I honestly think this is like a referral program in reverse. Dish Network, etc. do this all the time. "Sign up a friend for Dish, get a free $200 service credit!".

Sony is probably using us to sell their system through word of mouth, and under the hope that we will let our friends play the system and hopefully replace their Xbox 360s with a PS4. A great way to do this is to give us tons of free games and credits right off the bat, so we have a variety of games to show the system off with.

If that was what was intended, it really is pretty brilliant.

Holy shit they are price matching physical discs...B2G1 promotions...everything..This is fucking insane. THIS is how you start a digital future.

Take a fucking bow Sony.

Seems like a rather generic reply tbh.

It could be. The point is if Amazon are getting in on the action you would expect others to follow.

Proper competition is really the big thing missing from services such as PSN. If that is provided, we really could be talking about things very differently.

Are there ps4 games in the amazon psn store at the moment I can't see them?

It also seems like you can redeem the code's you get from the amazon psn store using a UK psn account. Just bought GTA Vice City Digital Code and it worked on my UK PSN account.

Can someone clarify something for me? Will Amazon be able to set their own prices and compete with Sony?

Unlikely but possible, not sure anyone knows yet, either way awesome news makes my goal of only buying stuff from Amazon and CostCo easier.

This is huge for me. I buy PSN cards off Amazon for all my digital goods because of my Amazon Visa rewards. This'll make the whole process so much easier.

Did you actually redeem the code whilst logged into your UK account, or redeem it using a US account and then log back into the UK account to play it?

This is fantastic.
95% of my retail purchases are through Amazon. I also trade in a ton of games with them as they have the best trade in values and also are the most convenient source to trade in, so I also usually have a decent amount of credit with them.
Just great news all around, and nice to have another option. No doubt.

I recently used amazon.com to buy BF4+premium+PS4 upgrade (paid $100 instead of about $180 it is in my currency). Works fine on PS3 so far. I used a Microsoft store billing address ;-) However, I'm holding off with any more purchases until I'm sure this will work:
1. Buy a game on US account
2. Switch to EU account
3. Connect with Vita via remote play and play the game.

I have no idea if the bolded part will work. Of course my Vita is tied to my EU account and I can't switch. I'd have no problem with buying another memory card for the US account but the switching process it awkward.

If it doesn't work, I'll be a sad panda.

I redeemed the code on my UK PSN account, I don't have my ps3 to hand right now but if the code was accepted and it shows on my Media Games List that means it's worked right?

Not sure. If so it would mean that the codes are region free (just like steam).

Wow, that means that the Amazon codes are region-free?? Time to play US store-only games on my Euro Vita! Megaton!

If it can't compete there's not point to it. I hope they clarify it for us because it's the difference between huge news and meh.

edit-
seems so someoen posted a comparision earlier with amazon games being cheaper than psn.

Really? Wow, I'll try to find it then.

Completely unexpected. Just yesterday I was talking about one of the big 3 having to take a leap and do something to shake up the digital marketplace and I wake up to this. What a great idea by Amazon and smart decision to go along with it by Sony. Kaz and whoever is in charge of Sony's digital strategy are killing it.

Wow this is how you do Digital. MS take notes.

Instead of taking things away from your customers in hopes to force them to choose your preferred option, how about you give them incentive(and good ones) to shift to your preferred method. Dont just throw stuff in our face then say wait and see itll be great without ever explaining what would have been so great about it, then on top of that, insult our intelligence by saying we simply werent ready for your half-baked vision.

This is coming from a former straight up Xbox fanboy, KUDOS to Sony for doing this(and Amazon of course).

If the deals that this produces are great this will definitely make me reconsider my love for purchasing only disc based copies of games.

I can confirm that it works. When you use remote play, the Vita is only streaming the PS3 stuff. So anything that you would normally do on your PS3 (like playing JP,US games) you can do with remote play.

But a GAFFER Venturer above claims that the US amazon codes work on PSN EU accounts, so maybe we can play those games directly on Vita! :)

I think you're right. They probably have a few missiles locked and loaded ready for next week. We already know they likely have one or two for the midnight special on GTTV Thursday.

Wow...wasn't expecting to wake up to this. Amazon is my preferred retailer for tons of things including games. This is kind of a big deal. Gotdamn! What else is Sony gonna unleash this week and next? MS has some tastiness up their sleeves as well I'm sure. Dis launch season!<3

This is a megaton for me. I buy everything from Amazon. Sony teamed up with the right company that's for sure, one that delivers consumer choice in spades and broke up the price monopoly that the big box stores enjoyed for decades...

Mega. Ton. MS to follow suit most likely.
You're probably right in the end, but how many times this year have we heard "Sony too" and it turned out not to be true. If there's one thing we know about big VG platform holders, they aren't very nimble about copying the good things their competition does.

This needs to apply to every game from every publisher that works on any PSN-connected device.

This is a game-changing event if it functions like this.

This is precisely what MS should have provided when trying to sell digital only. Open up the marketplace similar to steam and allow competition for the gamers dollars.
This is such a win for the PS4 community.

er, "open up the marketplace similar to steam and allow competition for gamers dollars" is exactly what they were doing for digital games. People would've been able to buy digital games from Amazon for Xbox One (in addition to other retailers).

Obviously, the big difference is that they were gonna move away from the traditional console disc model in addition to that, so that was the huge drawback, and why this type of method tends to get a more positive respoonse. But "competition for gamers dollars" with digital games would have obviously existed under the other plans as well.
