Feared this due to time limitations and they always showed the same levels over and over3/5
Last third of the game feels uninspired
Has anyone ever done a thorough comparison of Polygon's reviews to check for their bias? I am going to dig around and see what I can find.
Oh you did that? Just found it; thanks. This doesn't really support the narrative that they are on MS's payroll at all.
Polygon grades a PS exclusive above the metacritic average and no one says shit. When it scores below, however, its "ethics" are suddenly called into question by everyone. GTFOH. Seriously.
Look at my edit to the post for a bit more info. But yeah, it's not conclusive, but it is suggestive.
You have picked the one Killzone game not made by GG, Mercenary was made by SCE Cambridge!
There are flashes of this philosophy here and there throughout the game: a scattering of sneaky vents, secret vantage points and open plazas. A hostage situation at the end of the fourth chapter, set in a circular building with multiple entry points and destructible walls, is brilliantly realised. But true tactical options soon dry up, and levels quickly devolve from non-linear spaces into elaborate, broad corridors - and then into simple, narrow ones. There are a lot of rusting gangways. Eventually, you realise that you haven't even thought about using that lovely zipline for a level and a half.
Lol at people taking Polygon seriously. This guys are a joke, just remember they gave COD:Ghost on the bone a 7, while The last of us got a 7.5

Sessler score? I cant watch it right now
Or maybe the first party games were just better on the X360 and he preferred them? I know it's astonishing that this could be possible but have you considered that? Here's a post I made when The Last of Us was reviewed.
And an update when someone asked me to look at just first party IPs:
Heh, ya... if I was a mod here I might use today as a sick day.
Aside from the 5 from Polygon which seems like a score designed to get hits (note: I haven't played the game myself... but a 5?) if this means we don't get a ton of 10's out of the gate for all the next gen AAA games, I'm not displeased at the lower scores across the board.
It really doesn't seem to be anything like the campaigns in the previous games, however.I had very modest expectations for Shadow Fall's campaign. KZ2 and KZ3 were basically just very sexy Call of Duty campaigns. Enjoyable for the hectic firefights and the visual spectacle, but rigidly linear and completely forgettable. I wasn't expecting any different from SF, the series is what it is. But if it can come close to KZ2's multiplayer, a lackluster campaign wouldn't hold me back. I spent at least a hundred hours playing Warzone mode, I can't believe the whole concept of rotating objectives hasn't been used in other games outside of that turd Brink.
3/5
LIKES:
Absolutely beautiful
Pacing improved significantly
DISLIKES:
Non-combat sequences suffer
Last third of the game feels uninspired
And it would deserve it. If you're not bringing the best MP experience around then you shouldn't even bother putting out your game. That's all people care about nowadays and rightfully so.
My guess is that this helps the scores. It's a perfectly controlled MP environment that has them playing against friends.Has anyone noticed that the mp review portion was based on their time at the review event? An event that lasted less than 24 hours where the entire system was given a thorough run down along with every other game. With such time constraints, how can anyone honestly say they gave the online a thorough run down before passing judgment? Single player I can understand but this mp review in under a day is total BS.
Wait so KZ isn't even better than a bunch of horrible minigames? Might have to toss it on craigslist. I know you wouldn't lie when it comes to Nintendo

Yet on the same day Resogun gets 8.5 and the day before Ratchet and Clank scores 8.5 too, both PS exclusives and both scored higher than the Metacritic average for those two games (also, they scored Knack higher than most outlets too).

Exactly what I was afraid of, from the Eurogamer review:
All the talk about open, objective based design and it gets tossed aside at some point.

Do you follow Arthur Gies on twitter? LOL that will tell you all you need to know.
Gamespot seemed pretty up on it.So multiplayer seems uninspired too.
I am disappoint.

These threads are so funny. Polygon bias, so much hate.
Sounds like most of them only played a couple hours of MP, but completed the campaign. So there's that...
By the way, 12-15 hour campaign? Was not expecting that.
Because that would mean having to wait a couple of weeks. And we can't have that, now can we? Think of all the clicks they'd miss!
You and the majority of people who will be picking this up. And yet reviewers still don't seem to grasp this so they rush through the campaign and play a few hours of MP to get a review out in time for launch. Pitiful.
GAF impressions are what will matter with this game.
Hearing that the more open level design quickly regresses is probably the biggest disappointment for me. I've always felt Killzone, as a series, really isn't all that great (I don't think Killzone 2 is a good shooter at all, but Mercenaries does some great stuff), but the wider play space and open level structure had me more excited than I would be for a Killzone game.
Look at the negative on the Kotaku review, "cookie cutter story sequences that players have already seen before"...umm sounds like every CoD ever, yet that never seemed to pull the scores down in CoD (Ghosts aside).
The whole staff has to favor anything Microsoft shits out because they paid for that bad documentary? That's a pretty black and white way of looking at the world.
Gies gave Deadspace 3 a 9.5 http://www.polygon.com/2013/2/5/3938326/dead-space-3-review and this a 5? Come on...
Polygon's reviews for Sony's biggest exclusives in 2013 so far:
Beyond: Two Souls - 8
The Last of Us - 7.5
GoW: Ascension - 7
Knack - 6
Killzone: SF - 5
