Gies doesnt write ALL of the reviews...for instance...he gave KZ the 5 (below the avg score)..while one of their other writers gave Knack a 6(above the avg score)

I guarantee GAF is going to feel the exact opposite when the game when they have their impressions.
Wow @ these review threads. The GAF dichotomy of palavering on, incessantly, about the lack of integrity in games journalism but still needing quaintly quantified opinion pieces to tell them what to buy will never cease to astound me.

ng to pick up are the ones with the very best MP. I'm sorry but FPS campaigns have went waaaay down from where they were 10 years ago.

You don't think there's a chance NintendoLand fairs better against other games in its genre compared to Killzone Shadowfall vs other shooters?Wait so KZ isn't even better than a bunch of horrible minigames? Might have to toss it on craigslist. I know you wouldn't lie when it comes to Nintendo
I have not played either, but I don't think it's fair to compare scores this way.
Edit: Son of a bitch, I'm actually defending Polygon. What a crappy way to start my day.

Watched Sessler's review, definitely sending this back. He thought the multiplayer was competent but not great, and it seems the map design was bland. I'd rather play battlefield at this point.

I do kinda see his point. If there is no indication that the fuel rods are required at all then how are you meant to have any idea what to do with them. The thing about the keycard style system was that it was purposefully designed to be pretty obvious what the aim was. The game didn't explicitly tell you however it made it quite clear that you had to find a keycard of a certain colour (in Doom for example). Although this game may do the same thing and Gies is just talking rubbish.
Also, if it's just plain impossible to complete a certain firefight without using a set piece weapon placement then that's just bad game design. However again, Gies may just suck at the game.
people are just pointing out that his reviews tend to be wildly out of sync with the rest of community. I understand "opionions" and what not, but if a reviewer is consistently out of touch with the rest of the community that kind of makes it hard to believe anything they say.
This is true, and why I buy it every year. But every year it's more of the same, just more call of duty with the same recycled ideas and perks etc...just on different maps. The Killzone games are different but just as fun, to me, as call of duty. And at least it seems based on what I have seen and read of the game they tried to take a different approach to the MP so I just don't see how it's a bunch of recycled ideas unless they were specifically targeting the SP campaign, which let's face it most SP campaigns of any FPS ever are the same shit. You kill stuff and move to the next area, it's not that hard.
It's all good, at least with Sessler, even though it sucks he gave it a lower score, at least articulates what he disliked about the game in an understandable manner unlike Geis.
Regardless, it's going in my PS4 day 1. Can't fucking wait.
Pretty close to what many predicted. It will fall short of my 8.8 however. It will probably settle around the low 80's.

FPS have changed a lot since Killzone 2 was released. We've just been flooded with so many of them, most of which have nothing really new to add to the genre.

Having just replayed the game last week I'm genuinely surprised to see that. It's a solid game but it really lacks something next to Bungie's titles (especially Halo Reach). The campaign felt far more narrow in scope and less satisfying overall. Certainly not something I'd rate at 9.5.
I think the fact that it was more for the fact that the game didn't make you feel like a hero was the saddest part of that review. The game clearly never was that sort of title and I have no idea why the reviewer expected that.
The score is backed up with legitimate criticism.

So its a launch game. It looks great, plays great, slightly uninspired parts, great multiplayer.
To me that sounds great honestly, can't wait for this and Resogun!

Fucking Polygon. I was once really excited by their design and especially their logo (shallow, I know, but it is what I do). But then I started to get to know some of the writers and what they think, what they like, and how they act online. I wish I never knew about them and that Polygon could just exist as a well-branded site in the back of my head.
Regarding the review, there is literally two small paragraphs about the multiplayer, which is the only feature of this game most people probably care about, and with so little detail they may as well not even be there.
Cannot say anything contrary to the rest of the review (since I have not played it) other than the art direction (which we can see clearly from many different sources) making enemies hard to see:

If enemy Nazi soldiers in a WWII game were wearing camo specific to a levels environment in a high fidelity game like Killzone Shadow Fall, would that be questionable? Get real. So not only should the Helghast soldiers have glowing orange goggles, but they should also have Daft Punk-esque LED Tron highlights throughout their outfits, I suppose.

Is it? I've only read the Kotaku review, which suggested that was mostly the case. I'll check out the others and attempt to read through this thread (better grab a few Excedrin...).

They will likely be the lowest score for both Killzone Shadow Fall and The Last of Us.
no, that's not what i'm saying at all. It's just that when they're consistently an outlier, it doesn't make sense to include them in the broader discussion. Also, in practice including them adds nothing to the conversation.

anyone who gave Dead Space 3 anything higher than an average score- 3/5, or 7/10 for exmple, shouldnt be taken too seriously

Sessler's review was pretty positive. Actually got me a bit more interested in the game.
Shame this game doesn't inspire confidence or enthusiasm. Weird to see people so down on an FPS campaign since most of them are junk. Last one I had a good time with was COD 4

Ok....can we stop saying this. Of course we need to play the game to form our own opinion, but when pretty much every score is around a 7.0 or higher, then one comes in at a 5.0, that is a strange outlier. Which in and of itself is totally fine, a certain reviewer may not like the game.
But for Polygon, this has become an undeniable pattern when it comes to Sony exclusives. I continue to love their website's presentation and go there whenever they have one of their well-written features, but their reviews are suspect. (9.5 for Sim City anyone?)

This is nothing really new, most recent consoles had shit line ups at launch. The only 360 game I can vividly remember, and would still play, is Condemned. Most launches suck, and Xone is looking just as mediocre. I think Ryse will be rated like Knack if not worse, DR 3 will be a fun middle of the road game, and Forza could be swing with the reviewers taste in racers.
