Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | November 2013 | Tearaway into a new world

It's good.

No, you don't need to play PE1 to have fun with PE2. It can be a stand alone and missing PE1 won't hinder their stories. It's kinda like RE.

------------

Hey guys do you think this is worth it?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Gravity-Rush-and-Unit-13-for-Sony-Vita-Full-Game-Download-Vaucher-Card-/251245480854

Gravity Rush is free for PS+ users, so if you have 10 dollars, just spend 15 and you'll get more games.

GAF consensus is that Unit 13 is decent but not especially good.

EDIT: Top of the page: Pre-order Tearaway, buy PS+, prepare for DanganRopa and Toukiden!

Unit 13 is a good game, very much worth getting. It's nothing super-special, but it can be really enjoyable & fun, especially if you don't mind the lack of story and can enjoy the score attack aspect of the game.

Very soon bro, very soon.

It's permanent though. PS+ is after all just 'renting' games. Anyway, good call. I'll use it to buy PS+. It's a much safer bet and has a greater value me thinks.

Edit:holy shit at database error every 5 mins.

Yes, that's what I meant. It's fun but it isn't mindblowing. Maybe I choose my words poorly.

I want to buy Gravity Rush too, because I love the game so much I want to have it physichal. But I'll wait until there is a month when I have more money to spend and not much to buy. February won't be that month (I need to save money and prepare myself for DR and Toukiden)

Tried to work through my backlog because my new card is already full :D

Who was that guy here heralding Superfrog? I just played the game again after a long while and got frustrated within 15 minutes. That second world is just bullshit, so many leaps of faiths (I saw the markings, they don't help) and an overall annoying level design combined with the strangely floaty controls are just too much. I felt like the Angry Video Game Nerd.
World 1 was ok and I had some fun with it, even with the weird controls and oldschool/backwards gamedesign but world 2 is just bad and I am even playing the new levels, not the original ones.

I grew up with an Amiga and can't remember playing Superfrog or Alien Breed but had very fond memories of the platform so I bought those games. Maybe there was a good reason why I can't remember these games because both remakes by Team 17 suck.
I don't think I'll give the game another chance again any time soon.

This was me reading this:

Every excuse is good to post that gif lol

Leaps of faith? signs that don't help? Annoying level design? Floaty jumps?

WHAT? was the first thing that came in mind but then i said to myself that you are probably right, i look at superfrog through rose tinted lenses, you are neutral instead.

I can deal with annoying level design, maybe we have different ideas about level design, but leaps of faith? Signs that don't help? I remember superfrog to be over-guided, over-signed and over-safe.
But again it could be me, so since superfrog is still on my vita i decided to play those levels to see the truth.

Now vitagaf please help me, did i have visions? Am i the only one who saw signals EVERYWHERE, even where they are absolutely not necessary?

And if explicit signs are not enough here implicit signs that tell you where to go, look at the banners in the bottom-left of the image that say where a trampoline is(they are not even necessary since you came from it!) or the coins on the top-right that tell you exactly what to do.
2013_11_15_001353.jpg

Or here coins tell you where platforms are(i got the missing coins)
2013_11_15_002938.jpg

And when a trampoline makes you go high the camera zooms out to let you see everything and in fact the sign is visible!
2013_11_15_002455.jpg

These are just some examples! There are many many more!
It has even a bonus that stops you when there's danger to run on spikes!
What more should the game do?

Jumping higher than mario doesn't mean being floaty, superfrog's high jumps help you reach high places while in ascension and when you go down they let you land where you want thanks to their high maneuverability.

After many months since the last time i played it in 15 minutes i made 3 levels without even dying and the beginning of the forth, so maybe you are not that good to it? ;)
New levels are a piece of cake compared to the classic ones(man i'm still not able to do the last classic levels, i don't remember the game to be so hard...)!

It's really sad for me reading those things coming from an amiga owner :( , i guess that decades of unopposed domain of platformers with ultra-short, ultra-linear, left-to-right levels did high damages to the idea of platformer.

Anyway thanks to you i replayed it and i'll do it more often, especially to hear the original egyptian theme that i loved so much when i was a kid. :)

Love those screens, definitely going to pick it up when I have a barren moment on the Vita (not sure when that's going to be though).

Why is it that the supposedly cheaper Vita 2000 is actually more expensive? WTF. I tried to look at US stores and local ones. Cheapest I've seen is around $230 while the 1000 model can go as low as $160.

Because it hasn't even been announced yet outside of Japan?

Because it's an import and the supply is limited. It's not out outside of Japan.

I see. Figures.

Wait. Zero, you're back! Still haven't figured out direct link?
I think I figured it out last night (this morning?) after you clarified the internet connection thing. I'll be sure to post impressions here if I do get it working, although you'll have to make do with Resogun/Contrast since I haven't actually bought any retail games yet.

That's fine! I want to see how Vita's accessory performs.

There's actually no significant difference in price so price should be similar.

Though if they're from Asia (HK, SG, MY, etc), it's probably because the Asian Vita-2000 are higher than "usual".

I'm not from a country where it's officially released, but when the local shops get stuff here, they're usually the same price as Japan ones due to Asian prices being low enough to offset tax/shipping/etc.

2000 is currently 25% more than my expected price. I'm still waiting for the smaller (READ: better) shops to put up their price, but I'm not expecting anymore.

I'm from Asia so it still sucks. Maybe I should wait for smaller(better) shops as the local shop selling the 2000 models also sells PS4s for a whopping $730-$830 depending on the branch where it's bought.

Granted, they are the only ones selling that model and the PS4 currently.

Sorry, but showing these spots doesn't change the fact. Yes, they try to help you with many markings but there are still places where they aren't clear and you have to fall down like three screens into some spikes.

And the controls really suck ass. It just feels so weird and that is coming from someone who loves LBP and its controls.

Yes, maybe I just suck at the game but I don't feel like I miss out on something.

The Amiga remakes all sucked so far and I won't buy Putty Squad right away anymore after it getting delayed for months.

My love for my Vita has been rekindled! I never thought remote play would work as well as it does. Simple as can be to set up. Best ps4 accessory ever. Was running Sony Music Unlimited in the background while playing Need for Speed on the other side of the house from the ps4.

So what's the best place to import a Vita TV from? I'm tempted in getting one, even though it will only work with my Japanese account for now.

Something I didn't see comments about yet: how does the battery hold up during RP?

Considering it's essentially hammering wifi with HD audio & video streaming non-stop, it must be pretty taxing.

It's beautiful though. Can't go wrong with the art especially on the Vita's screen.

For me it was the excellent visual presentation, the smooth animation and the great story for both characters, I thought the combat was slick and fun. My Personal GOTY.

no doubt - the game is gorgeous and fun for a bit - it's just pretty repetitive. if it's your jive then jive on.

with its luke warm reception on wii, i'm just shocked that it gets so much praise on vita.

I can confirm that the Crunchyroll app works via remote play on the Vita from the PS4. (screen shots don't seem to work though)

The video is a little choppy as my PS4 is using wireless instead of a wired connection so I suppose that the remote play data and the Crunchyroll stream data are too much for my poor G router. I'm looking into what it would take to get ethernet run behind the TV for the PS3/4 but have to go WiFi until I can make that happen.

Been waiting for Crunchyroll to deliver on the Vita app they had mentioned ages ago so I had to resort to extreme measures.

Nice. This will hold Crunchy Roll users until the app for the Vita is released. Can you stream while using RP?

yeah i wish i never bought muramasa or dragon's crown... such boring (if beautiful) games

Did you not read reviews or seen some gameplay footages? You bought Muramasa/DC didn't have fun with it but you still bought DC/Muramasa? So unless you bought them both at the same time, I think that constitutes as bad purchasing decisions.

Yes, as mentioned I was able to stream but the video was a bit choppy due to me not having the PS4 connected using a wired connection. (at least that's what I suppose)

To be safe, I can say that the first couple of minutes of the last RWBY episode streamed over RP to my Vita from my downstairs PS4 to my office upstairs (directly over the room with the PS4).

Edit: Oh by the way killatopak, your's and Toto's avatars are not distracting in the least...really.

yeah i feel like im missing something with dragons crown...all i do is spam 1 AOE spell, levitate across the screen, charge MP.... rinse repeat.

anyways i've gotten back into my FF9 save. disc 3 should be coming up soon. Gotta go fast - get this game done before Tearaway and Ys!

Because I like to be right and procrastinate on stuff I have to do I have reinstalled the game and made some shots of my own. It was the fourth level of the second world that pissed me off by the way.

So here I am standing and it tells me not to jump to the left when I am going down. OK, I think, then I'll keep to the right.
2013-11-15-164719qaeh7.jpg

Going down keeping to the right I find this. Oh yeah, there is a X marking telling me not to jump down there but how am I supposed to see that from above or react to it while falling? Sure, If I hadn't kept myself all to the right I wouldn't have died but I had to know that beforehand.

2013-11-15-1647360hsbs.jpg

At this location you can only see the X marking when you are standing on the platform above, not the fire and safe platform beneath. I made the screenshot this way so you can see it better. It tells me not to fall into the middle except the middle is the only place where I can safely land.

2013-11-15-164822hsu7f.jpg

So these markings aren't helpful all the time, sometimes they even tell you the wrong thing to do. Seeing them in screenshots is totally different from seeing them while playing the game because you often can't react so quick to those tips (when they are telling the truth).

No, I meant twitch/ustream streaming.

I love my avatar. First time I saw her, I just stared at the picture for a good 15 minutes. The things I would do to get to know her...

Haven't tried it but a IGN video (I think) I saw a couple of days ago showed that Twitch/Ustream did not work over RP. Meaning you cannot stream a game you are remote playing.

Edit: However, the LiveStream area of the PS4 where you can watch Twitch/Ustream streams does work over RP (I did try that).

I didn't see anyone listed as doing Tearaway in the OT OT OP, got worried for a sec that nobody was working on it. :(

But looks like it was claimed a couple weeks ago. Hope it goes up soon!

SO repetitive. i don't understand the love for it in this thread.

I really didn't think I'd put over 13 hours into Muramasa when I started playing! It took a while to enjoy the mechanics, but I really like the game now that I can kinda know what to expect when I fight. Controlling air attacks was a big breakthrough for me. I hate navigating the world, that's for sure.

But little stuff like the funny localization and the awesome food /cooking do it for me. Dunno if playing a second time will happen, but I'll beat out once for sure.

Dragon's Crown's only main improvement is the cooking! Otherwise it doesn't feel as deep.

Thanks! At least I can watch someone do a livestream on the bed with my Vita. IIRC there isn't a Twitch/Ustream app on the Vita.

I'll probably piss off some people by saying this, but I cancelled my PS4 order a few days ago(before the reviews and everything hit). Not enough games interested me, and my 3DS is taking up a lot of my spare time. I'm holding off on getting one until more games come out, like Infamous. With my 3DS I waited until significant titles came out and it's what I've done with the Vita so far. To be honest very few Vita titles really caught my eye.

That has changed with Tearaway. Love practically everything I've seen about the game, and I'm strongly considering selling a few things or using credit to finally get a Vita.

I've missed the recent Radioshack deal, so does anyone know about any upcoming Black Friday deals?

I did the same with 3DS and with the Vita (but I had a harder time waiting for Vita and picked one up the summer of 2012).

The only Vita Black Friday deal I know about is from the leaked Gamestop ad for a Walking Dead bundle for $199 and it includes a 4GB memory card. There is also a deal at Gamestop on Black Friday for a 8GB memory card for $10 (which is a steal but only 8GB is crap to be honest - I'm probably going to pick one up for a new alternate Japanese account I'll setup). Games like LBP and KZ:M will be $19.99 (pretty good price especially on KZ:M) and they list three older games on sale for $14.99.

Started playing Killzone Mercs yesterday. I've never seen such incredible visuals on a handheld before. It plays smoothly and is surprisingly very accurate.

Stabbing Helghast cocks FTW.

Quite excited guys:

I'll be getting a Vita by the end of the month. In fact, I can get it today if I wanted, but I have some bills to pay, so I'm waiting the next week.

It's the 3G OLED Vita, with Batman, Uncharted and some other things. 8GB only though. Will get for R$500 (around $230 dollars).

I agree that amiga remakes sucks, superfrog included(graphics should have been better for example, and there are some changes from the original, but overall is not that bad), other than that i don't agree on the rest.

Let's look at your images:
In this one there is an explicit sign that tells you where not to go and 2 implicit signs made by bonuses that tell you where to go. What developers should have added? The entire area where you can go is filled with signs!
2013-11-15-164719qaeh7.jpg

here there are 2 platforms keeping you safe
2013-11-15-1647360hsbs.jpg

Ok this sign is on the wrong place, but it's not even necessary since there is a platform that keeps you safe.
2013-11-15-164822hsu7f.jpg

Sorry but even in those shots i don't see leaps of faith, there's no leap of faith if you land on a safe spot, if you want to know what leaps of faith are play life of a pixel.

Man there are platforms over spikes and flames to keep you safe! The game has too much hand-holding, it's totally over-safe and over-signed! Most of those signs are absolutely not necessary when there are platforms and other things to keep you safe.

You are joking, right? The sign being in the wrong place is not a problem because there is a platform that keeps me safe? The problem is, it keeps me safe were it tells me not to land so I land left or right to it where only death is waiting for me. At least it clearly shows that the markings aren't right every time like you wanted to ridicule my claims with your shots. 'Oh look, everything is marked, so much handholding, you suck'.

Also boni are sometimes scattered above deathtraps so I don't take them as ultimative hint for safe landings.

Those may not be the best shots but it is hard to take them because I don't know the places beforehand and don't want to go through the game so often. There are many places where you have to fall and don't know what is underneath.

Only because Life of Pixel has shittier leaps of faiths (yes, I also bought that turd), doesn't change the fact that Superfrog has a similar problem.

Any good arcade racer on Vita?

When will Soul Sacrifice become avaliable on PS Plus? It's November already.

Burnout Legends is Vita compatible but must be transfered from a PS3 (or 4?).
Sonic Racing Transformed is a great acrade racer too, and it is an EU Plus freebie come December.

As i said i agree that that sign is in the wrong place, but those controls that you don't like lets you easily land safely, i made that part without dying and i haven't memorized the level, maybe you need more practice with the controls.

Not considering bonuses(boni or whatever) is a big mistake and probably one of the reasons why you are not good at it, some of them are above traps only when traps are visible to give you some challenge, when you go down to a new location they always tell a safe way to go.

Imo you haven't understand how to read the game(signals, bonuses/boni etc) and the importance of controlling perfectly the jumps when you are landing, in this game a perfect control of the landing is as important as a perfect control of the jumping, if not more.

What's the deal with this? I've seen it mentioned before. Are there games, Vita compatible, which cannot be bought from the Vita itself or the web browser PSN store?

Basically various PSX and PSP compatible games ARE Vita compatible, but they are not listed as such on neither the PS Store nor by Sony.
In this case, the game may be transfered to one's Vita via the PS3.

Oh and Burnout Legends is ONLY VITA COMPATIBLE WITH US ACCOUNTS, EU ACCOUNTS ARE NOT COMPATIBLE!

Is it the game itself or the genre of the game you can't play?

I'd say its the game itself. I could play it for a while, unlock a sword or two and reach the next destination/area but by then I would have had my fill and moved on to another game.

Naturally, I consider fucking pickups like in every fucking game because it's the fucking reason to play a fucking game with fucking pickups.
I just said it isn't the ultimative fucking hint like you are making them out to be. Sometimes, when you try to collect all the coins you get to difficult places like in every collectathon.

But you already said that you are looking through rosetinted glasses so this discussion will lead to nothing.

P.S: the fucking controls still suck, just like this fucking game.
