WTF? That's just stupid beyond comprehension. As if somebody would get a package ahead of time that was dispatched one day before launch... In Germany they sometimes hand them over 2 days early (would be the 27th in this case) and restrict DHL to deliver it to your doorstep before launch day. So they can get it to the transport hub closest to you ahead of time to ensure delivery on such extremely busy days...

I chatted with a Amazon DE guy 2 weeks ago about something different and asked him about the PS4 launch aswell. He told me that they will ship them on thursday. I specifically asked because I am from Austria and in that case there is no chance that I get the console on friday - post office is closed on saturday here so it will be mondy/tuesday.
 
Seeing the 1 million day one sales in NA puts my mind at ease somewhat about the number of dead consoles. With such a huge amount of sales, even if 1% were faulty thats still 10,000 people complaining, which creates a lot of noise on the internet but for 99% of people there's no problem. Fingers crossed.

There was a rumor going around they would do it this time around again, did not know it wasn't true. Bad luck for you then, sorry. There is no package delivery in Austria on Saturdays!? That sucks...

This is what I've been thinking. We'll hear the full story in the next few weeks anyway, but I'm definitely feeling a bit better about my preorder now.
 
EU Gaf should make sure they buy more than 1 million units in 24 hours. Don't come second place ;)

My hype level is to an all new low :/

Thanks to:
- amazon.de / Sony not being able to tell the release date of the KZ bundle
- seriously limited OS features, in particular ANYTHING media related
- sharing feature gimped (no local transfer, screenshots are compressed jpgs etc.)
- some delayed launch games

OS is the biggest offense for me though. Was supposed to be my main attraction, playing around with the new toy (for games I anyway still have a huge PS3 backlog).
 
Okay, I might just try and trade my Game gift card for cash to someone who has their ps4 on pre order, since I will be waiting till after Christmas for mine (I was stupid and didn't bother to preorder soon enough)

I have £190ish on a gift card and could trade with someone if they haven't already payed theirs off. PM me if anyone is interested.

Did you buy either of the last gen twins at launch? I can't speak so much for the 360, but PS3 was really bare bones at launch. I refuse to accept that any console, ever to be released, past or future, could have a more disappointing launch. Be happy. Ps4 looks ace, and us EU folk are dying here. Lots of this stuff will come, it just is not ready. I would rather they didn't hold the console back - thereby stopping us from playing actual new games - and have to wait longer for a shinier OS they can fix at their leisure.

Yeah bought PS2 and PS3 at launch (though thanks to late PAL launch we already got a nicer firmware ;) ), but neither offered less features than the predecessor. That's my main problem. I get that they focused on the games, I'm not too upset. Preorder not canceled ;)
But the few days left to wait don't exactly kill me now either.
 
Still need to buy a digital-to-analogue audio converter, possibly the vertical stand, and then decide on an extra game or two as I've only got AC4 ordered so far.

Also planning to pick up a 1TB SSHD drive as well.
 
Is any other GermanGAFfer getting his PS4 delivered to a Packstation and wondering if it will fit?
 
We should get a good idea when Amazon etc. will ship our consoles this week with when they ship Xbox One pre-orders.

I'm new to Gaf, only been checking it out for 4 months and only recently had my membership approved.

Your post is exactly what gaming is to me, since my first go on Denaris on the C64 I've been a gamer. I've got my own business and during the economic crash of 2008 the likes of WoW gave me respite from the daily worry of whether I could provide for my family. I would have gone bonkers with worry if it wasn't for the few hours in Northrend trying to end the Lich King.

Not many of my friends are gamers and most are perplexed as to why I'm so excited about the launch day, they were the exact same on the launch dates of the n64 and the ps2.

The launch of a new machine represents future opportunities to immerse myself in another world free from the concerns of everyday life, and being a small business owner in particular, free from the concerns of how I make sure this time next year I'm still providing for me wee girl and also for the new wee one were expecting in June.

You also mentioned what gaffers will do with their new entertainments setups. Well I've not spent a rake of money on high end stereos or 4k tvs..... However my wife has wondered why earlier on this year I suddenly changed my opinion on putting a conservatory on the back of our house. Well what she doesn't know is that the day I decided to put a conservatory on the rear of our property was the day Sony announced ps vita remote play and also the day I went out and bought a vita. So I type this reply on a bright but crisp November morning in Scotland, in my recently finished conservatory with my vita next to me waiting for the 29th when I can game whenever I please without pinching the big tv and risking the wrath of my three year old saying "daddy..... I want a yogurt and number jacks on the tv"

I hope and pray that it is DPD who have been given the deal to deliver my PS4 from Amazon. No other courier is better in my limited experience.

It'll be interesting considering that the EU was the stronger market for the PS3 than the US was. Who knows if they are even shipping 1 million to us.

It should fit if they don't put the ps4 in a box which is a lot larger. Which means: If you order some accessories or games with it, pray for those to be put in a separate box or that the Amazon employee who packs it chooses the right box size which isn't slightly too long for the Packstation :D

Not sure on numbers but even staff at SCEE were put on a waiting list if you didn't order back in August I think

Thanks to the stupid FSK18-shippment, most of my games will ship separately anyway. The only one that might come bundled is Knack.

Yeah, I'm playing Lego Marvel on the 360. As much as I would have loved to get it for the PS4, I'm not paying £18 more for the privilege.

My biggest concern is the possible DS4 stick issues. I hope it's not widespread.

Question for DutchGAF: are there any midnight launches planned/communicated yet by big outlets? I preordered at GameMania, a store I usually avoid, but if they do a midnight launch I might actually go with a couple of friends.
