VGXtreeeeme nominees are up (GOTY: Mario, TLOU, GTA5, Bioshock, Tomb Raider?)

Jeff Gertsmann on the panel reminds me, did anyone at Giantbomb, outside of Patrick who reviewed it, actually complete The Last of Us? I know it's release was around the passing of Ryan Davis and much of the staff didn't feel like playing it, but I have never heard them mention it since.

Tak Fuji is forever a bro. Love that guy. I hope the best for his recent health.
1 million truths right there. I hope his cancer will be sucked.

They still haven't, I suspect they will as the GOTY podcasts draw near.

P sure drew and vinny finished it since then and both really enjoyed it (outside of "i kind of wanted to skip all the combat to see the rest of the story") Jeff and brad are the two who didn't

Mario seems like a good left field choice. I bet that game will be amazing even if no one plays it.

Other then that I have only played and finished GTA, TLOU and Bioshock.

I would go TLOU>GTA>>>>Bioshock

You already know how this is going to go down.
They'll spend more time talking to some fan blogger in the audience then they will on some of the awards they hand out.
Expect more "red carpet interviews with, oh btw, here's your award" moments this year.
If they indeed pull this shit again, I hope Page wins and actually shows up (won't happen though). She would give these fuckers the death stare that they deserve, unlike Clem's poor actress last year who was just too embarrassed to say anything.

No Beyond:Two Souls for "Best Soundtrack"? WTF
Yeah Balfe got robbed. His best work by far.

I think The Last of Us has an uphill battle against the multiplatform GTA V, but hopefully the TLoU will win out regardless.

(Sorry to post this here again, but I didn't saw this thread when I searched for it earlier)

Like last year, I made a complete text list of the nominees with their hashtags:

I know 3D World isn't going to win, but I'm happy that it's on the GOTY list nonetheless.

And it's a damn good list I must say.

Yea i'm glad it made it, after the other time SMG2 was the highest reviewed game of the year by the same judges and didnt even make it as a choice for GOTY on the VGA's

• Gone Home Watch - The Fullbright Company
• Kentucky Route Zero - Cardboard Computer

• Dishonored: The Knife of Dunwall - Bethesda Softworks / Arkane Studios
• Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon - Ubisoft / Ubisoft Montreal
• Mass Effect 3: Citadel - EA / BioWare

No Dishonored: The Brigmore Witches? anyway The Knife of Dunwall is still the best.

Compared to any of the other GTA games, yes.

Compared to any of the other games this year, also yes.

I didn't think the original music was all that either.

Umm, yeah. Apart from Sleepwalking, yeah.
You guys have bad taste in music then. Sorry.

The West Coast Classics station alone puts that game on a different level. That station makes the game feel like California more than anything else in it, and really adds life to the game. Not only that, but the rest of the soundtrack has a lot of fantastic songs.

All I'm saying is any soundtrack that has MC Eiht's Straight Up Menace and Jai Paul's Jasmine in it can in no way ever be considered shit.

The list of games that are nominated for the game of the year is absolutely perfect......

With that said, GTA V all the way! And Tomb Raider 100% deserves to be nominated.

so, everything is basically TLOU,gtav, bioshock and tomb raider...
Metal gear rising has one of the best ost in the generations, and it's not even mentioned...Oh well, so much for doritos awards.

Is Nintendo not eligible for studio of the year because they're comprised of a bunch of smaller studios? I'm not exactly sure how they're constructed.

GOTY - The Last of Us
Studio - Naughty Dog

What they've created is absurdly impressive. Hands down the game of the generation for me.

My predictions and justifications.

#VGXMostAnticipated
Will Win : Titanfall
Should Win : Titanfall
Titanfall's hype is the real juggernaut here. It's become the calling card of a new generation, and should run away with the award.

#VGXGameOfTheYear -
Will Win : The Last Of Us
Should Win : BioShock Infinite
Snubbed : Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons
The critics are clearly in deep love with The Last Of Us, and nothing's going to change that. It's got the award sealed. But personally, I felt Bioshock's strikingly beautiful & mad journey more powerful than The Last Of Us' realist dystopia.

#VGXStudioOfTheYear -
Will Win : Naughty Dog
Should Win : Irrational Games
Studio of the Year is the VGX equivalent of the Best Director Oscar. Barring absurdist circumstances, it'll go the best production of the year.

#VGXBestShooter -
Will Win : BioShock Infinite
Should Win : BioShock Infinite
Snubbed : Call of Juarez : Gunslinger
Infinite is the real only outstanding nominee here, and it deserves the title. But I'm dissapointed Ubisoft's risky & delightful Gunslinger didn't get any attention.

#VGXBestActionAdventure -
Will Win : Grand Theft Auto V
Should Win : The Last Of Us
Snubbed : Saints Row IV
The fact that The Last Of Us and Grand Theft Auto V are considered to be in the same genre as one another by the VGAs is a real headscratcher. Even more perplexing is that ACIV got a nomination over the tripply voyage of The Saints.

#VGXBestSports
Will Win : NBA 2K14
Should Win : lolsports

#VGXBestIndependent
Will Win : Gone Home
Should Win : The Stanley Parable
Snubbed : Rogue Legacy, Gunpoint, Brothers : A Tale Of Two Sons
Like The Last of Us, Gone Home is the sort of game critics want to see succeed. However, the snubs in this category are devastating. Gunpoint, Rogue Legacy, and Brothers are all some of the best experiences of the year overall. Being pushed aside for Kentucky Route Zero? I disagree so, so much.

#VGXBestRPG
Will WIn : Fire Emblem : Awakening
Should Win : Fire Emblem : Awakening

#VGXBestDriving
Will Win : Forza 5
Should Win : lolsports

#VGXBestDLC
Will Win : Far Cry 3 : Blood Dragon
Should Win : Far Cry 3 : Blood Dragon
Snubbed : The Walking Dead: 400 Days

#VGXBestXBox
Will Win : Grand Theft Auto V
Should Win : Brothers : A Tale of Two Sons
I expect the vague title of "Best XBox" (which might as well be relabeled "Best Multiplatform") to be Grand Theft Auto V's only big win of the night. Here's the hierarchy as I see it in critics eyes. TLOU on top, GTA V below that, Bioshock under that.

#VGXBestPlaystation
Will Win : The Last of Us
Should Win : The Last of Us
Snubbed : Resogun
Duh.

#VGXBestNintendo
Will Win : Super Mario 3D World
Should Win : Super Mario 3D World (I imagine)
I haven't even played it, but I can't see this losing.

#VGXBestPC
Will Win : Gone Home
Should Win : The Stanley Parable
Snubbed : Rogue Legacy, Gunpoint, Brothers : A Tale Of Two Sons, ARMA 3 (This whole catagory is fuuucked)
What the hell happened? Battlefield 4 gets in over numerous shunned indies? Including the more impressive-looking military shooter? Fuuuck this.

#VGXBestHandheld
Will Win : The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds
Should Win : Animal Crossing : New Leaf
There's a chance ALBW could've competed with the big boys in the GOTY catagory, but I guess Tomb Raider's luscious locks were too tantalizing to ignore.

#VGXBestCasual
Will Win : Animal Crossing : New Leaf
Should Win : Animal Crossing : New Leaf

#VGXBestVoiceActor
Will Win : Troy Baker as Joel - The Last Of Us
Should Win : Troy Baker as Joel - The Last Of Us

#VGXBestVoiceActress
Will Win : Ellen Page as Jodie Holmes - Beyond: Two Souls
Should Win : Ellen Page as Jodie Holmes - Beyond: Two Souls
Ellie is a great character, but Ellen Page's preformance in Beyond is an artistic achievement in of itself. A convincing portrayal that transcends age, and makes the best of an otherwise absurd script. You also can't ignore that Hollywood appeal.

#VGXBestSoundtrack
Will Win : The Last Of Us
Should Win : BioShock Infinite
The Last of Us has a great score, but BioShock's soundtrack made for one of the best subtle twists in a long, long time. It goes above and beyond what a series of covers should be able to do.

#VGXBestSong
Will Win : "Will the Circle be Unbroken"
Should Win : "Will the Circle be Unbroken"
Not just the best song, but a contender for the best overall moment of the year.

Tomb Raider 2013 is my favorite Tomb Raider, but it still doesn't deserve a nomination when its peers are GTA5, Last of US, and so forth. Did it get on the list for political reasons? eg. Wash away reboot stigma from DmC. Needed to demonstrate big budget games ,starring a female character, do happen.

I hope Tomb Raider wins as it was my favourite among the nominees (haven't played 3D World yet, however).
I know it won't, though.

I also hope Ni no Kuni wins in the RPG category.
