P:M 3.0 looks epic!
Where'd the formula thing come from? I guess the pikmim gradually growing stronger is neat, but whites now explode because why? lol
My reference to flat stages was mainly directed at what's exclusive to the mod. If I remember correctly, the only new non-flat ones are ones they're bringing back (the N64 ones)
And yup. Wasn't a fan of the new moveset alterations (Lucas, Wario, Snake, etc.) and found myself weirded out by how they shifted around the BGM (Fountain of Dreams plays Mario Bros. music now? Okay.)
He was talking about that particular stage though. Which LITERALLY is a big grey block with two leafs and two platforms.
Personally I'm also not too fond of the direction they've taken with the characters from SSBB. The mod once was supposed to make SSBB feel more like Melee, but Lucario's new Aura System or Bulbasaur's Solar Beam don't feel like they belong in a Smash Game at all. The creators got carried away too much. Maybe they should rename their Mod, Project M(elee) no longer is what the mod's about...
Project M trailer more interesting than any of the dojo updates? Yes. Yes it was.
I tried Project M for the first time last night and I was fairly terrible at it. I think playing Brawl so much has ruined what small skill I had in Melee. It's like learning a brand new game.
I am thoroughly looking forward to 3.0 though. I'll probably dedicate myself to getting some skill with Mewtwo at the very least.
I really have no interest in the gameplay changes in Project M, I feel like they take away from the original too much. But man, do I love the alts. Beautiful alts. I would love if the next Smash has alts of this caliber, but I can't help but doubt it.
Removing Tripping, and Everyone 'Floats like Kirby' takes away from Brawl?
I believe the only characters who can ledge-grab while reversed are Ganondorf and Captain Falcon after Up Special. It may also be Link and Toon Link, but I don't remember. The no insta-ledgegrab from behind threw me for a loop in PM coming from Brawl. Brawl made recovering a lot easier, for better or worse.
No, adding moves does. As I said, I've no problem with the Mod, I just don't care for it. Lets not get defensive over nothing.

Also, my first post! Sup Gaf!

Um, those two characters you mentioned are new to Brawl, so the mod team was given free reign with those characters. What about then makes them "un-Melee-like"?
too different from vanilla Brawl version
or something
Lucario's aura system in Project M is crazy unintuitive and totally unlike anything in Melee. I don't necessarily agree about the solarbeam, but a lot of Project M's changes are kind of the anthesis to Smash's design, even if it uses the games as a basis.
And I say that as someone who (casually) likes Project M. It's got some great ideas, but you'd never see some of these changes in an official game.

Pikmin exploding is AWESOME man! Can't you see that? Never played a single Pikmin title (for shame), but if that's against the grain of the characters I can see how that can be odd or off putting.
And I'm sure the flatter stages were at the suggestion of Pro Smash players to allow more places to kick each other around on, instead of just Final Destination. I like it. I still have my uneven and oddball stages to go along with the flats..
Well, for one thing, Fountain of Dreams replaces the Mario Bros. stage from Brawl. They only replaced one song, but the others you can replace on your own to make the stage make sense. I replaced all the songs that correspond to that stage with Kirby songs. It's not that hard and makes sense that they only included one song since BSTRMs (the music) take up A LOT of space.
Some people have to remember the game is a mod, and that even YOU can mod their game by replacing cosmetic things. Don't like the choice of Alt costumes? Replace them. Don't like some of the stages? Replace them. Want better music? Replace them. Don't like the game? Don't play. etc etc.
Simple.![]()
Someone want to explain how project m changed Lucario's aura?
Yeah, I don't think it's worth getting into why I don't like Project M, but whatever. I don't have a problem with other people enjoying it. It's just the shit like "hire these people, Nintendo!" or "they do a better job than Sakurai" that gets under my skin.
Basically it functions like your typical 2D fighter's super meter. Instead of getting stronger when taking damage, Lucario has an invisible super bar that builds as he attacks people. Once he has enough super stocked, his hands will glow. This gives him access to EX versions of his special moves, done by pressing A+B together with the move input. I don't remember too much what they all do, as I don't mess with him very often and just use the EX aura sphere, which is a very very large and slow moving version with tons of knockback.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who doesn't care for Project M.

Pretty much how I feel about it. I don't care for Project M honestly, but I won't degrade the work that's going into it.
Completely agree with these sentiments. People should enjoy what they enjoy, and from an objective standpoint I applaud the heavy workload and extremely professional modding that's gone into Project M, but anyone who says they "do a better job than Sakurai" or that "Sakurai can learn from these guys" is just fooling themselves.

I think I'd like it more or be more appreciative of it if, at the end of the day, it wasn't just the same pro Melee players who stripped Melee of its heart and soul and turned it into a lifeless husk of a game trying to do the same thing to Brawl. I can only hope they leave Smash 4 alone. (They won't.)
sakurai can learn from these guys
project m has smash 64 stages and alternate costumes
brawl doesn't, and who knows with smash 4. we'd be lucky if we got melee stages.
"people should enjoy what they enjoy"
"I hope they leave the new game alone"
can you people go two sentences without contradicting yourselves

So? If I want 64, Melee, or Brawl stages, I'll play 64, Melee, or Brawl. I'm looking forward to Smash 4 because it's a new Smash game, not because I want to play the old Smash games' content in new games. I feel like this is a fairly obvious point.
Maybe people *gasp* actually enjoy playing Smash at a competitive level? Them doing that does not effect the way you or anyone else play.
Why not have both old and new content? I would love to be able to play in my favorite stages like Saffron City with newer characters
- Pichu isn't ruled out, but no one really wants that character in it seems (developers included).
"Heart and soul" are very subjective and have little meaning beyond personal interpretations. But if you don't want to talk about it further then I will just leave it at that.I enjoy playing Smash at a competitive level as well. What I don't enjoy is people acting like the only way to do that is to strip the game of its heart and soul ("banning" all stages except for the flat, predictable ones, disallowing all items, and paring the game down to six or so dominant characters in Melee's case). There are many ways to play and enjoy Smash at a competitive level, not just the one as made popular by the pro Melee community.
These arguments have been had time and time again, though. Let us not derail the thread by making the same points thousands of people on both sides of the divide have made before in other forums, yeah?
*raises hand*
project m team pls![]()

Calm down.
Hey, I've played a hack of Melee where Pichu didn't damage himself, he was so much more fun!![]()

Your beefs with Project M seem to have little to do with Project M, and more to do with your grief about how tournaments are handled.
That's a whole nother topic for another day, IMO. They also have nothing to do with one another.
Fair enough. Glad we can agree on that last part at least lolThey are absolutely subjective and I 100% admit and allow that my opinions are solely my own. I'd never try to present my opinions as objectively correct; my apologies if it seemed like that's what I was trying to do. I hate it when people do that!
Just my opinion though. I love you all, and no hard feelings SmashGAFers.![]()
-- Mewtwo, Roy, Ivysaur, Squirtle, and Charizard have Final Smashes. However the latter 3 won't be ready for 3.0.
... huh?
Poor Pichu, lol.
Excited to see what other alts they can come up with. They've been amazing so far.
You seem to come off as "I love you SmashGAF, but you're dumb for not liking Project M for whatever reasons you may have."
You didn't need to post a list of changes and notes to back up your admiration for Project M. Just comes off as angry and insecure to me.
