what jrpg are you playing right now ?

I started playing Graces F last week. I just made it to the desert area... it's good but it's a bit excessive with all its sub-systems (half of the shit I have no idea what it does, like I don't understand the whole screen turning orange or blue for instance)... and the game has a tendency to railroad you around a bit more than the Tales series usually does.
That's the feel of a Team Destiny game at work.

Finished Baten Kaitos last week. I really liked it, the music was fantastic.

You gotta play Origins. It's way better.

I don't mind the story or the characters (actually I'm a big fan of Pascal). Not sure if it will top Vesperia as my favorite game in the series yet, or if the story ends up being as entertaining as Abyss yet.

Blue screen means you're in an Eleth Burst, a state where you can use artes without a CC cost for a while and use Mystic Artes. Orange screen is an Eleth Break, which is basically an Eleth Burst for enemies.

Also I didn't bother much with dualizing till the post game, if you're confused about that.

Btw Acc and Eva are good stats to build up.

Tales of Graces f is a seriously underrated game.

I liked most of the characters, particularly Sophie, Richard, and Pascal.
Pascal is a lot of fun and her personality adds a lot to the game.

none right now unfortunately... I still need to finish DKCR and Gravity Rush, then i have this little game called XenoBlade sitting on my shelf, unopened still... that will probably be my next JRPG :)

Shadow Hearts images
at Calios mental hospital atm.

My PS2 started dying last month when I attempted to replay this. It's been many years and I think I'm just going to emulate it and replay, because the first two entries in the series were some of my favourite games (I liked the third one just fine, but the atmosphere just wasn't there).

In the meantime replaying Nier Replicant now that I can finally understand pretty much everything.

At the moment, I'm not playing a JRPG or any single player game right now (college has been taking my gaming time away from me). I did just order a copy of Vagrant Story and Ys is finally coming out on the 26th, so I'll have some JRPGs to play for a while

No it's not. It gets a lot of shit for its characters and plot, and for a good reason.

If you were talking battle system/sub-systems though, I'd agree. Most fun I've probably ever had in a JRPG (battle-wise), just grinding titles was ridiculously addictive.

Pokemon Black 2. I finished X and wanted to get ready for the pokemon bank. I am surprised by how much more interesting the battling, story, and pacing are. I have actually lost two battles. X was monotonous because it was too easy. I had snorlax kill everything in the game.

was playing project x zone and remembered .hack had jrpgs, are they any good?

.hack the GU series is the best of the bunch. Though how you level might be a bit tedious. Good story and characters should keep you pressing on if you dont mind the mindless grinding part.

I love grinding so that's no issue, iv'e been reading around and its a 50/50 between skip the first four and jump into GU and others say play them. So I'm going to buy the first .hack as well as GU and just play both.

But also .hack is spread across so many different mediums when it comes to its story, where do I begin ._.

Characters are kinda hit-or-miss for me. I still think that Vesperia has the best charas out of all the Tales games... though Pascal is pretty awesome. Reminds me a tad of mai waifu Rita, which is always appreciated...

I just made it past the lab dungeon... how far am I in the game? I'd love to get it done over Thanksgiving break since I won't get any chance to play all of December...

I love the entire series but if you don't want to play the first tetralogy you can skip it, especially since the games are pretty expensive used.
G.U. trilogy is a fine place to start and honestly you'll just miss some references to the past games like a character might be controlled by a player who also had a character in the first series.

If you really want to play/read/watch it and only want the minimum required to get the full experience without any alternate perspective stories or irrelevant side stories, start by watching .hack//SIGN, then read AI Buster 1, then play the first four games while watching the Liminality OVA.

After beating the fourth game, read AI Buster 2 and move on to the manga Legend of the Twilight. Skip the anime for this one as it deviates from the manga's story and is not considered canon.

Now you're in the G.U. era which begins with .hack//Roots. It's not as good as SIGN but has tons of important character development and introductions for the G.U. trilogy.
Now you can play the three G.U. games.

Once finished with those you're in the final era and can import and play Link if you want.
Then you've got .hack//Quantum to watch which can be found free and uploaded by Funimation on Youtube. It also works as a standalone series and at only 3 episodes serves as a good introduction to .hack in itself.

After that you've just got .hack//The Movie and the Thanatos Report to tie things up.

I left out a bunch of light novels and manga adaptations as well some little sequel things but as near as I can tell this should be a decent guide to the order of the .hack series.

Completed Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky - First Chapter.

Them ending revelations. I want the sequel. The game is very slow paced but stays interesting enough to keep you playing.

I have a question about the sequel. Do you often only use two characters in battles? It annoyed me that we had eight playable characters but at many points in the game, six of them were gone. Battles were very fun with a four man group fighting.

I wish CyberConnect 2 would make a new *true* Hack game. :-(

I picked up:
  • Eternal Sonata
  • Ni No Kuni
  • Tales of Graces f
  • Tales of Xillia LE
for $60 off kijiji just recently :) can't wait to get into them.

Picked Earthbound back up this weekend after leaving off a few weeks back. I got stuck in Fourside and didn't know what to do. The problem with leaving off is you forget dialogue cues and such - I had to look up in a FAQ about the contact lens in the desert.

The desert outside Fourside is fucking annoying. By this point I have to be overlevelled because of how much backtracking and grinding I've done (just to pass time, not to purposefully level grind). I think Ness is about level 37. But the enemies in the desert are pretty hard hitting, I've only just got around to using support PSIs, so I've had a few deaths from those exploding ball enemies. I will be very glad to get out of this place.

You will be glad you did that power leveling in a little bit. You are near what many would consider the hardest part of the game(or the biggest enemy curve) and one of the most confusing parts of the game to follow. Enjoy!

man. do you guys recommend buying a wii u to play xenoblade ?

Did you already have a copy or did you buy one used? How much was it?

I'm about 2-3 clicks away from ordering Pandora's Tower and The Last Story, and I really really want Xenoblade. I'm really hoping for a deal (I heard about the gamestop black Friday one, but I'm not too crazy about black Friday shopping).

Also getting Ni No Kuni for Christmas.

OK thank you, the series seems interesting and I've always play/watch it.

Granted there are some connections, GU is still pretty much enjoyable as a standalone trilogy.

The DS version? Awesome game anyway, played it myself for the very first time only like 3 years ago!

Virtual Console. It's great but I get impatient when I lose at RPGs since they're not exactly my favorite genre, I've been playing it off and on for like the last year. The music is fantastic and the combat keeps me interested more than most RPGs.

Replaying the explorers pokemon mystery dungeon games. So many feels

And HOLY crap Earthbound is amazing

Guys, any help with Xenoblade. I mean, I know this was one of the positive aspects of the game, but I feel completely thrown out into the wild here. Haven't played toooo many jrpgs, so yeah help.

Oh, battle system takes a while for someone used to turn based only and Kingdom Hearts
I don't know, I'm just confused

Do it!

Haven't touched Replicant yet...my backlog still consists of DS/PS2 games...and I bought these games when they were new :|

Devil Survivor Overclocked.
12 hours in and I'm really liking this! great voice-acting, good story and SMT combat!

is soul hackers any good?

I've had Mother 3 forever, had the Fangamer guide book for like 2 years and just never could get past the first chapter with flint. I'm now on Chapter 7 and can't look back.

The callbacks are killing me in the best way. It's tone is abysmal compared to Earthbound. Worst thing that happened in EB was an absent father, so much happens in Mother 3 in just the first act, never mind chapter three.

Coming right from EB to M3 was jarring for that reason. M3 gets pretty damn heartbreaking at times. Earthbound certainly had dark bits (Gygas, obviously), but it wasn't as outright sad as Mother 3 gets. I'm glad they went in that direction though, because it means Eartbound and Mother 3 really feel different despite being part of the same series.

I've been thinking about replaying these games recently, some of my favorite JRPGs (although I'm honestly not a hugely experienced JRPGer).

King's Field IV doesn't count as a JRPG, right? I've been playing that recently.

Is Star Ocean The Last Hope really as bad as people make it out to be? I've always had a soft spot for SO games and been wanting to play this one lately but haven't picked it up due to people saying it's bad.

I was actually just about to post that I was playing Soul Hackers.

Yes, it is excellent. It's not absolutely perfect, but the problems are mostly polish. For example, I've come across one or two bits of untranslated dialogue (minor things, not important story text or anything like that).

Combat is excellent, and demon fusion/negotiation is still sweet. I'm finding MAG a bit of a pain to keep up though, keep running out.

Use only like 2 demons for dungeon crawling. Three tops (you can use a full party for bosses). There, no more MAG problems ever.

The story is alright (it has a slow start, and a couple really long scenes). Characters can be a bit annoying but sometimes funny; overall don't expect too much but I didn't think they were that terrible. Gameplay is good. It's worth a play.

Gameplay was still fun, fun enough to play it through once. Everything story, character, writing etc related was horrible horrible horrible though.

I'd like to try it again, last time I played it was around the release. I only have a PS3 now tho and ~20e is too much for the game, really.
