Isn't it Atlus's biggest series? I mean, the anime, movies, concerts, and spinoffs aren't just funding themselves.

It is big, but it never performs all that well when it comes to sales as far as I can recall. Doesn't Tales usually sell more? I imagine that the merchandise and marketability helps out a TON obviously.

Give it a little break dammit guys, the team developing ps3 game for years.. and its not even finished yet ain't that easy to make plan change, its due for re-release on the road anyway

SMT's definitely their most prestigious series, and obviously very popular, but I never got the impression it has the popular appeal Persona has. Could be wrong.

Obviously Persona can't exist without SMT series going, that's for sure. And it isn't uncommon to see spin-offs sells better than mainline title.
It's kinda like 3D Mario and Mario Kart.

Bah, means I'll have to keep my PS3 around for even longer. :( I don't have the space for this Atlus!

I assume Winter 2014 means December? Doesn't make sense it being Jan/Feb as we've heard nothing about the game as of yet.

Of course, and i don't want them to cancel the PS3 version, but they should also make a PS4 port.
I think it's safe to say that JRPG fans in the west are more core gamers than casuals, and therefore a lot of the potential buyers will have a PS4 in 1 - 2 years when it will be out in the West. You can't expect them all to keep their PS3.

there are quite a few jrpgs coming to PS3 over next year, late localized games and new ones, small and high profile. There is nothing coming to PS4 next year that we know of, I don't think they have anything to worry about re audience for these games...

I'm not sure why people are saying this looks so much darker than P3&4. P3 has tons of suicide imagery, the first hour or two of P4 has a murdered girl tangled up on a power line pole.

Some chairs with chains attached to them is... not all that dark.

The evokers were too heavy handed and got old fast. It only seemed intense in the first 2 or 3 scenes, then you just became desensitized, P4 had so much going for it to strike the right tone between "these are high school kids" and "this is a messed up situation" but then you got to spend half the game forgetting about the messed up situation part and it became a scooby doo dating sim.

Also, robot girls in love and talking fur suits.

I think they're "letting go" of those games though. We get our mostly cutesy spinoffs and a kind of serious P4A sequel and P5 is its own beast. If you can tie the games to the system they're released on, I think I'm expecting something more in the line of Catherine than P4, honestly.

Someone needs to make this a "Didn't read, lol" or "Haters gonna hate" gif.

Seriously if you're a console RPG fan you need to own a PS3 for the next 1-2 years...

Actual sales > Potential Sales

Not to mention by the time it hits west if it happens, PS3 will be dirt cheap.

I'd rather they focus on getting 1 version of the game out first, before mucking up that process.

I mean but they are owned by Sega now. I don't believe Sega is that broke. And with the way systems now are so easy to code for, I'm not seeing why this couldn't have been an option. I feel this way about a PS4 version as well.

Sega only bought them recently, so I really doubt that they'd have any influence over platform decisions. At least not so soon. P5 has been in development for years. It was first mentioned all the way back in 2010. So the platform decision was likely made quite some time ago.

Anyway, if you look at their announcements today you'll see that they're all very well thought out and not risky

PQ - Etrian Odyssey inspired Persona title. While Person games are obviously more known on PS platforms, the EO games are Nintendo platform focused. So if it's going to play like that then it makes sense for it to be a 3DS title

P4D - A Persona dancing game from the developers of the original Miku title. Miku is already very successful on PS portables, and so is Persona.

P4U2 - P4U on the PS3 was the best selling traditional fighter on the system before JoJo was released.

P5 - It's shown itself to be a pretty popular RPG machine after its initial slow start.

Like I said, there's really no risk in their decisions. They all seem pretty damn smart.

A-fucking-greed. Remember that paywall you guys have? The money you give Sony can be appropriated depending on how loud you make your racket.

That extra PS+ money will come in handy. How much does MS make off Gold though? Sony needs to moneyhat Japanese devs like they've never done before, gaming slowly moved away from consoles to handhelds and its creeping away to mobiles. Not getting MH on Vita was a mistake and huge loss for the PS ecosystem. That one game would revitalize the Vita in Japan more than the tens of MH type of games Sony ended up with. The gap with the West is widening, not shrinking, I fear for PS4 sales post launch.

Calling Third Party Productions, Calling Third Party Productions. Emergency Port Required. Override of Developer Choice authorized. Transmission Will Explode in 5 .... 4 ... 3 ... 2 ... 1 ...

Only time will tell. I think people may be overestimating the darkness level though... I think whatever they put out with P5 will likely have as much appeal as the last two Persona games unless they want to take a huge risk...

The HD nightmare still haunt many Japanese devs. Sony really need to push them if we want to see at least quarter of PS2 JRPG output like they did with indies in the west.
