I wish they'd cancel him already. Clowns like this are always getting attention but they're everything wrong with modern gaming culture on this side of it. He can't even use it's/its properly lol.

For as many mehs and shits taken on the game here I've read just as many say it's a great game so looking forward to it. Obsidian typically does a good enough job and it's in the world of pillars so yea, 17th can't come quick enough. Dq7 and avowed in same moth will be some good gaming.

Here's what I remember from it (finished it last April):

- good combat
- great lighting
- completely forgettable story and characters. I somehow can't remember a single character or story beat from the game… something about a plague type thing that corrupts the land and animals, that's it.

It took about 30 hours to finish. No regrets but it's just a totally forgettable experience. You're much better off with Outer Worlds 2; a far superior game and a huge improvement from OW1.

I have outer worlds 2 platinumed, need 1 bugged trophy but while I hear you honestly most of these games have forgettable characters... I love the games I play but game stories are all typically mid tier and most games outside of some anomalies have pretty unforgettable characters. It isn't like the old days where we get your clouds and tifas anymore.

It's the experiences that count least for me. Outer worlds 1 and 2 are both good games but stories are just there. It's the exploration and combat, characters etc that for me are what matter.

I'm sure I'll forget about OW2 eventually but it's been a few months and I still fondly remember the characters and story. I had low expectations for the writing after OW1 and Avowed, and also the crazy DEI vibes (LINK), but they mostly crushed it. Seriously, the writing was great. Characters, main plot, even the terminals were worth reading.

RE: Cloud & Tifa
One of the reasons we'll never forget them was because it was a formative memory during our childhoods. Not saying they're not good characters, but there's a lot of nostalgia involved there because we were kids.

Well even characters like Kratos or master chief, these characters are the stand outs that are rare. But I mean I love outer worlds 1 and 2 and I find the characters just ok but that's just me.

I think avowed will be solid, I like Obsidians style so it always sorta lands for me.

Then I think you'll like it enough. One positive is that it doesn't overstay it's welcome. My playtime says 33 hours and I remember exploring a lot.

Do not give these weird freaks money.
There are hundreds of people who work on games, I don't care how stupid any of them are individually and I don't know why anyone wastes their time looking into this kind of thing. It's not illegal to be an idiot, if you want to reply to stupid things he says on twitter or whatever that's up to you but honestly if these kinds of comments bother people so much they probably shouldn't be on social media because it's full of people on both sides saying the dumbest shit possible just to get a rise out of the other side. It's obviously your right to not buy the game based on the art directors words but nobody is going to blame those words for poor sales and they would be right not to, I do think the art has put a lot of people off though (including me) so he could be blamed for that.

If I understand correctly you put the game aside for PS5 right?

To me, I found Avowed to be better than Outer worlds 2, exactly because of exploration & combat.

In fact, I would say that the fully narrated story in Avowed, and the short stories with concept arts like Pillars of Eternity did, while not the story of the decade, I was more into it and following it than Outer Worlds 2 even though OW2 is a "better RPG", because in the end in outer worlds 2 I was skipping all computer logs and diaries build almost nothing in the lore. I was listering to the audio logs and stopped reading the pages and pages of worthless info.

Yea, I checked it out for a few hours on game pass but I knew it'd hit ps5 so I shelved it until that day and glad I did. I have a nice pc I always was a pc guy but I love platinums, they're satisfying to me ultimately.

But that's good to hear, the exploration is what was getting me... I'm happy to dive into it again come the 17th

It was okay. Shockingly good combat for an obsidian game. Shockingly boring story compared to old Obsidian. (But this obsidian is only a husk of what it once was)

Game is good.

Remember game has lot of builds and play styles, with unique weapons.

Respec after every area or two when you collect some interesting gear. That keeps it interesting.

Game encourages that. Its a bit like Diablo.

How is it in comparison to KCD2 ?

KCD2 is the closest thing to a living world I've ever seen in a game. Its story literally feels like living history.

I liked Avowed but it's like exploring a picture rather than a real world. The exploration/environments are all well done and the game tells a good enough story. I think it's worth $50 if you're in the mood for a fantasy RPG. But KCD2 is my game of the generation. In another league.

The combat system is the best i've seen in a game like this.
Agreed

Agreed

Yeah but I can't really describe how or why it is good.

Pro Enhanced and launching at a cheaper price. I kinda expect a price slash for Xbox around the anniversary date because they can't be that stupid and leave it at $69.99.

I really liked it. Not going to say the story is amazing, but the gameplay was fun as hell.
It had it's issues, static noninteractive world and not too good character design, but it was still one of my bigger surprises last year from gameplay alone. The combat was probably the best ever for this perspective in the genre, the parkour was perfect too with the ledge lock and so on. It played great! And the role-playing was fun too, there were so many alternative scenarios for some bigger story beats.

I believe I rated it 7 or 8. Sounds harsh when I still liked it so much but for me personally it felt dead as soon as I jumped over to Oblivion. Can't compete with a Bethesda RPG for me.

Unfortunately a rare miss from Obsidian imo. Nothing particularly wrong with the game, it just feels boring. I played to completion but wouldn't recommend it. Combat is fun though.

Good for y'all PS owners who want this, but if it's an Obsidian RPG you're looking for then Pentiment is 1000x better and more interesting in my opinion

Not all of us were kids so you are vastly incorrect

This game was a lot of fun. Not a 10/10 by any means, but I really did enjoy it quite a bit. Glad for Sonybros that they'll get a chance to play it.

Do you need a Microsoft account to play it like Forza Horizon? (which was the only one I tried - assume all their other PS5 releases require one)

Avowed was the game I was most excited for back when it was revealed way back in like 2021 (2022?) and it quickly became a game that looked worse and worse the more I saw of it.

Sadly, I have yet to see anything to convince me to check this game out. From what I gather is that this was a game that started out as a multiplayer game that got retooled into a single player game.

Maybe once it gets like a $10 sale on Steam
