Atlus's Persona event was the best hype-train I road from the start to the sweet end.

It was pretty crazy. I didn't even know how to feel when they had that old lady talking for like 5 minutes straight. But all in all it was a pretty good experience, especially once they started showing off games and you knew they were going to show Persona 5. I think Atlus did a really good job with the countdown and hype building, and didn't disappoint.

i don't know. this reminds me of square enix announcing like 6 final fantasy 13 games at the beginning of the previous generation and none of them turned out well (the only one with a chance of being good isn't even named "13" anymore). that went on to have them only release dq/ff games too

i could be wrong and all the games could end up being good, persona 5 being amazing and all, but right now i just feel like they're diluting the brand which was never that strong to begin with

That was awesome. Even if (or maybe because) I'm not a Persona fan (perhaps yet, I'm currently playing P3P but I haven't beaten any game in series yet) and wanted just see what are they gonna do, it was just fun to watch and observe the reactions.

Someone joked in the thread "Kojima taking notes", and I wonder how in the end it'll turn out on his side. :3

5 years ain't nothing compared to the 10 years to finally get SMT IV. Good thing SMT IV was brilliant and destroyed every SMT and Sub-Series I've played.

Yeah, but it didn't come out with a bang like this one did.

:( I wish I had SMTIV...damn region lock.

When the 55:555 countdown appeared and Teddie freaked out... Oh god, my heart.

What trailers were shown on the TV screen outside the building? Them all?

The difference is that there is gameplay videos of 3 of them. 2 are made by different developers and one is made(?) by a time efficient EO team.

Experiencing this entire teasing rollercoaster of hype-deflation-hype-outrage-yet more hype-jubilation was glorious in person.
Quite simply the most epic combination of trolling and actual hype delivery I can remember in a long, long time. Well worth staying up for.

Sony and Microsoft could learn a lesson or two from what Atlus pulled off here.

I personally thought it was pretty cool how they essentially recreated the Midnight Channel. Nobody likes countdowns to announcements, but they at least made it a bit more interesting by having a livestream and teasing people with the little events (it was fun seeing everyone lose their shit every time Edogawa or one of Marie's poems appeared).

It was pretty awful. A bunch of spin-offs and a 5 seconds teaser "See ya in 2014". After 5 years of "We are working on P5 guyzz, I swear!!!" it was pretty abyssal.

I think even SE could have done better.

I saw a lot of embarrassing "Atlus just lost my business forever" statements. Its funny how easy it is for a company to make people lose their minds.

I remember a lot of "WHAT'S IN THE FUCKING ENVELOPE TEDDIE? READ THE FUCKING LETTER!" in the Twitch chat after the first three announcements when Teddie was pretending to sign off.

Was good fun.

I can't believe how happy you are about a barren little teaser for something that was surely going to come around sooner or later anyways. Good for you, though.

Well Q already has a set release date, and I can't imagine development on P4D will take years. Ultimate is being built on a previous game, so it's unlikely to have prolonged development time also.

Probably the only game whose development should be worried about is P5, but right now I am more inclined to believe Atlus will release P5 before FF15.

I didn't pay much attention to it but it is great how everyone got something out of it. Console guys got their HD Persona. 3DS guys got a dungeon focused Persona, and Vita got... something. I really haven't looked into the Vita game.

I woke up and read the through the thread from where I left off last night and god it was incredible watching the meltdowns, the hope, the next meltdown, the new hope, another meltdown, the lost hope in the Atlus, and then finally everyone doing a 180.

It was a pretty awful event. I would have preferred they not done i, quietly announced Persona Q and the dance game, and announced Persona 5 six months from now when they would actually have something to show.

I didn't stay up to watch the nonsense because I have better things to do with my time. The spinoffs look marginal at best. P4A played very well, but we already knew about P4A2. And we learned nothing about P5. Can't say I was super impressed.

What is this disappointment talk? What were people expecting?

I was expecting some information about Persona 5.

Eh, I liked the game announcements, everything else was okay to me

all the meltdowns were just the same iterations I've watched over the months so it wasn't as satisfying

Can't believe people actually melted down initially during the 3DS announcement. Not unexpected, but still. You guys really thought they hyped this shit like 3 months in advance and had a 72 hour livestream countdown for some goddamn spinoffs?

Use your heads for once people. Should be ashamed of yourselves.

God that I was great. I LOVED having a "real life" blurry midnight channel. Added so well to the mystique they successfully kept under wraps. Not a single leak.

I like that there was so much speculation, but we ended up with "one of everything," including what would have been joke guesses.

Want P5? DONE
Want it on your PS3? DONE
Want something on 3DS? DONE
Want more P4? DONE
Want more P3? DONE
Want another crossover? DONE
Want it to be an rpg, a change to the formula, and full of fan-service? DONE.
Want something on VITA? DONE
Like Persona music? DONE
Want a Hatsune Miku clone featuring dancin' Kanji? DONE DONE DONE.

And that's ignoring P4A-2.

Jeez Atlus, what a helluva hearty yield. And none of them on GREE!

I would even say this is better than Smash Brothers Brawl's Dojo, just because three days is the perfect amount of time to whip a crowd into an insane frenzy.

Here's my story:

I never watched the stream for the first two days due to work but I was there for the third teaser. My hype increased, as did my confusion. I felt confidant this was going to be Persona 5 and I was going to watched the shit out of this countdown to get myself in the mood for some Persona.

Then I did a quick count on when the clock would run out. 11am Sunday. FUCK. I work at that time, so being a crafty bastard, I timed my break to go up and refresh the GAF thread to see what was being announced on my phone. Well, you know how that went. First came the images of Persona Q and the meltdowns, then the dancing game and even more meltdowns with a few "one more announcement to go" posts. My break time however, had ran out.

For another 5 hours I worked with a sense of dread. "Did they announce Persona 5? What if they didn't? What if they did and it was a handheld game?" these questions gnawed at me until I made it home and desperately turned on my computer and checked GAF.

Relief.

EDIT: Though I have to admit, I would've preferred to watch the livestream and felt it first-hand. The teaser didn't quite have the surprise it had with everyone who watched.

I will be THAT guy...i was overall extremely disappointed with pretty much everything. 3DS got the at least decent game, while Vita gets a dancing game(i know some people enjoy them, but come on). Vita seems like it would have gotten the other one for being a more "hardcore" handheld. I do not care at all about the arena game, didnt even play the first one. 5 being only on ps3 is devastating. If it does not get a worldwide release in winter 2014, we are looking at a potential 2015 ps3 exclusive game. Will anyone care about last gen games in 2015? i know I certainly wont. I am probably selling my ps3 after the last of us dlc comes out. We have had enough time with the ps3, and they choose to release persona 5 over a year after people start to forget about...idk, doesnt make much sense to me. They could have AT LEAST made persona 5 on vita after how well golden did.

Basically what you just said is that you care more about the platform than the game. If you want to play Persona 5,then you'll use the platform it's on to play it. Persona 4 was released for PS2 in 2008, 2 years after the PS3 came out, and people still played and enjoyed it and it managed to get pretty popular.

Some people were just having fun on the Internet even if they knew...

Why so uptight?

I'm talking more about the people that were writing a paragraph about how they were never buying an Atlus game again than the people that were just throwing up curse words in all caps.

If you look through that thread, some people seemed genuinely distraught.

I just bought a PS3 yesterday for this game.
