Atlus's Persona event was the best hype-train I road from the start to the sweet end.

The fact that people wanted to kill Atlus employees was pretty embarassing. I'm excited for Arena 2 and PQ but I can't get hyped for Persona 5 until we see more.

Its a damn shame SMT gets regulated to 3DS while Persona, the fucking spin off, gets this big huge hype announcement on a console.
I mean, I know why, people like their japanese high-school dating simulators, but c'moooooon.

Don't worry. SMT5 will be on PS4 funded by all the nerds and otakus fans who buy everything Persona.

They couldn't do that though. They have a game ready to go from the EO team that is releasing about 6 months from now and they couldn't just announce that with no P5, the fan base would have gone berserk.

Maybe, but if that been quietly announced in Famitsu or something I doubt the fanbase would have gone too berserk.

I'm not really upset by this whole thing. I'm just kinda bummed. I was expecting huge media blowout for P5 and that I would be playing it in less than a year. That's not what I got so I don't think it is outrageous to feel disappointed. I'll still play the game...if my PS3 lasts to to 2015

Eh, this is from the fan base who has been thinking that the next tuesday would be the day for years now. If persona info had dropped out in any way and it wasn't P5 again, idk how people would have handled it.

Imagine if all of us could understand Japanese. How different would it have been?

I think it's great that so many non-Japanese-speaking people had so much fun with the event. I mean, it was clearly not intended for the Western audience. Normally, people wouldn't even be up at that hour, lol.

I mean, I had no idea WTF Teddie was rambling on and on about for like 30 minutes prior to the Persona 5 reveal. Maybe he was a talking about how sweet it would be if John Cena and The Rock were in a Persona game. Maybe he was talking about how SEGA was canceling all Atlus games. Maybe he was talking about Catherine 2 with online multiplayer! I don't know!

I would really like to see all this again with an understanding of Japanese...or if Atlus USA just dubbed and translated it all. :P

had my fair share of meltdowns today

can only sincerely apologize to all affected

all that matters is that P5 is now real <3

There were an abundance of extremely shameful comments during the first few announcements. (I mean in general, I'm not singling out any specific place.) It was funny at first, but then it just got disturbing.

Everyone's happy now, but it reminded me about a side of gaming that I really do not care for.

I thought "Atlus still got it." Which leads me to my next point:

Actually, I think if they had announced Q or the Dance game without pairing them with the P5 announcement, people would have lost their shit even worse. At least this way, people only had to panic about it for a few minutes.

People, don't forget how few console JRPGs we get these days. Don't forget how many Japanese devs have gone mobile-only. Don't forget what happened to Breath of Fire, and where Dragon Quest seems to be going. To get not one, but four announcements for a series, all of them on traditional consoles/handhelds with nary a mobile game in sight...this doesn't happen anymore.

THEY. STILL. GOT. IT.

In an era of double standard, shrinking domestic sales, hot potato console situation, HD screwups, and messed up priorities, this and few other JRPG series managed to survive at all in a form worth giving a shit about. That is beyond relief.

I thought it was pretty embarrassing for the majority of Atlus fans

Insulting the company over and over again and then jump back on their lap in the end draws a dark, dark picture of them

It was amazing. Atlus trolled us pretty fucking hard throughout the stream. Love how in the Persona Q and Dancing all night threads, the first couple of pages are filled with nothing but "Fuck you Atlus."

I thought they reactions were more stupid than being disturbing, and not exactly that different from other games annuncements.

I thought you disliked Nintendo in general? It's good that you have seen the light. Best system for games out there since the DS.
Since when? The only thing worthwhile out of Nintendo is their handhelds. It's been like that for a decade now. I'm like 95% joke character, don't take my jokes about loltendo so seriously. Even when I'm serious, I may not be serious.

I've even got a Krillin now. I didn't buy it though; I promise. It was given to me. Forced on me. I have X next year so something to look forward to at least.

haha at the comments for persona 3DS on here, that first page was everyone mad as hell.

and then with the dance game on vita, everyone was like "the fuck"

then the bomb came with dat Persona 5, would have been a huge meltdown if it were on wii u :P, i wanted to see that just for the meltdowns

i need to get a ps3 again by next year

You should have read twitch chat. So many bitter tears until the end lol. Only looking forward to P5. Gotta admit, that spinoff on the 3DS was great troll material. Meh at the dancing game. Both those games got way more air time than the brief announcement of P5.

The event was amazing. I'm wasn't even able to catch the stream but was in the neogaf thread during it all. I felt all of the highs and lows like everyone else.
Needless to say kojima needs to take notes now because atlus just about took his crown.

It was just so much fun. The chat in the stream was ridiculous all through out the presentation couple with Teddie stalling and eventually getting kicked off the stream I was laughing the entire time.

And yet, some people are still trying to argue they "sold out" with some of these announcements. These games aren't sacred cows.

Yeah it was a fun ride, you hsould have seen the #personaGAF chat

Also slightly off topic OP but is your avatar... intentional?

Haha yes, he was making fun of everyone who had put luigi hat's on their avatars around the time dark moon was coming out.

YEAR OF LUIGI FOREVER. (I can't bring myself to change it cause it's obviously so meticulously and masterfully made, and absolutely not drunkenly slapped together in MSpaint.)

I can't believe how happy you are about a barren little teaser for something that was surely going to come around sooner or later anyways. Good for you, though.

I just needed affirmation that P5 is eventually coming on PS3. Everything else was just icing on the cake.

It's best case scenario, easily. We could be looking at no game and lots of vapid microbilkment iOS stuff. Sega's no longer self-defeatingly dumb any more! Yayifications!

Now, if P5's plot is all vapid fanservice, broken character interaction/development/etc, and easily broken character building, then the sacred cow's on the grill! :P

the greatest reveal event in jrpg history.

We didn't know that Q is made by EO team. So everyone assumed that Atlus is wasting time of Persona team on that monstrocity.

But thankfully it's only waste of time of EO team so nothing of value was lost since they would be pumping out dungeon crawlers anyway.

And dance game probably would get much less hate if we didn't asume it's the only thing we are getting.

It was an absolutely crazy hype train. You all should have seen the PersonaGAF chatroom. It was madness in there.

Still, I would prefer if Atlus were to tone down the next trolling event. My heart wouldn't be able to take another one of this magnitude again.

I knew Atlus wasn't the kind of company to do something like hype its fans up for P5 and then just announce a dancing game, but that's exactly the kind of shit we've come to expect from certain publishers in this industry. Which is why this event was so effective, but I can absolutely relate to those who were losing hope.

But if you think all of the freakouts were absolutely serious you're either crazy or have never watched a stream before. I was right in there yelling ATLUSSSSSSSSS at every turn, but I wouldn't have got up at 6AM if I wasn't 100% sure we were getting a P5 announcement.

Between the downright masterful trolling, the amazing Persona 5 teaser, my twitch stream getting into the top ten, Atlus USA employees and Polygon retweeting my stream, being thanked by an Atlus employee personally, staying up 72 hours, and the sheer awesome insanity that was going both in IRC and on these forums....

I'm pretty sure I'm never going to forget this event. The final announcements weren't even that amazing, but just being there with everyone all hyped up was so memorable.

They should have topped their trolling by announcing Persona 5 exclusively for the iOS. That would make this event the best hype-train road since the School Days anime.

Chatroom where? On IRC?

ITS HAPPENI(NG!
IT'S REALLY HAPPENING THIS TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!
PLEASE DON'T BE WHAT I THINK IT IS.
AH FUCK THIS SUCKS. They fucked up the art for 3DS :(

Fuck you Atlus!
I want to kill myself.

Persona 5 is never coming...
This game looks like such shit. Please don't do this to me Atlus... There has to be more!
When will the damn spin offs stop?!
This has made me really fucking hate Teddie.
I love you Atlus. I'm so sorry for what I have said. Please take me back. I can't live without you baby.

This was fun. Now that Persona 5 has put me back in a normal state of mind Persona Q, Persona 4 Ultimax Suplex and Persona 4 Dancing All Night seem pretty cool. Take my money Atlus.

More roller coaster than train but absolutely worth it. I was surprised when people started losing their minds as we all knew they were going to reveal three games and it made sense for the biggest announcement to go last. Then someone posted the dance game scans and I couldn't believe that we had all been trolled. Such an effective way of announcing a game with just an image!

With how people reacted to the Persona game on 3DS you'd think it was Square releasing yet another FF game for mobile or something.

I had a lot of fun watching the livestream. When the old lady appeared saying "listen to the cheering of the crowds below" and then showing the flyer with all the "Confidential" written on it I was smirking. Meanwhile in the thread someone had posted the first image of Persona Q on 3DS. Eventually its trailer was shown and my heart sank a little. "After all that hype this is all they got?" Then Ryouga tweeted about P4D and I realized they'd be showing multiple games during the event.

The stream was complete insanity

By the time Hatsune Yu was announced I was crying from laughter. I was so drained by the end that the P5 announcement barely registered
