Just bought a Wii U. Surprisingly, there were no shortages.

So it looks like eBay will be having a $250 bundle deal on December 2nd. I am VERY interested in getting a Wii U after having played the new Mario game over the weekend.

Any indication what this bundle would be? I'd love to get the Mario bundle, not so enthused about the Zelda one (heresy, I know).

lol, I had this same question in another thread. I'd prefer the Mario bundle as well because I want a physical copy of Zelda WW. I asked in another thread, but..

Dumb question maybe, but... when sites report that Ebay is doing a $250 Wii-U bundle on Monday, what does that mean exactly? Is Ebay selling it directly? Or just one of their top sellers/stores is having the deal?

I have one and it works well.

keep in mind you can't have the Wiimote condoms on to charge and sometimes you have to wiggle the Wiimotes to get a solid connection. Overall I'd recommend it though.

I don't mind removing them off the wiimotes if it works good, thanks for the input I'm gonna look into it a little more I might just get one.

So, question:

How is ZombiU, now that it's not the only game on the system other than Mario? It struck me as this gen's Red Steel, but who knows -- maybe there's actually a good game with solid mechanics in there. Either way, I'm tempted to pick it up alongside my WiiU when I get it this week.

So picked up W101 along with the new super mario 3d world. Man, W101 is a tough game. I played it on normal, and had to switch it down to easy. Even then, I still die somewhat often. I am going to stick with it, but it can be a little frustrating. Part of the frustration comes from not knowing what to do next in the level. I get to a part of the level and spend 10 minutes trying to find out what to do next or where to go. I guess I got too accustomed to the hand holding in other games.

I am only at 002-A right now so I am still new to the game.

I love it.
It's a launch game, it's got flaws, it could have done with a bit more polish.

ZombiU isn't for everyone, but some people (myself included) absolutely love it to bits :D It's survival horror similar to the old Resident Evil games, i.e. powerful zombies and not enough ammo. It also has a bit of Dark Souls thrown in for good measure (hard and unforgiving). I would say it is a very good game, although it has flaws as a launch game. As for solid mechanics, it makes the best use of the WiiU pad out of any games, and although it has a couple of gimmicky controls, it also has some brilliant ones. Anyway, your best bet is to try the demo on the eShop!

It gets easier (kinda). It is a hard game, but at first you're being held back because you haven't mastered the controls, the combat, or how the game works, which creates frustration like you said. After you start to get sorted along those lines things get more enjoyable :D

I couldn't be farther away from the disaster that was Red Steel 1.

Plenty has been said about ZombiU. It is a true survival horror game, an excellent one at that. It blends elements from the classic Resident Evil (a single zombie can be a real threat) games with elements from the Souls series (online integration, permanent death/respawn/reclaim your stuff mechanic, animation priority combat) with its own unique takes on inventory management (you have to look down while the game keeps running, you have to look at the TV if you want to check if anything is stumbling towards you). Don't buy this thinking it's a fun zombie shooter. It's a hardcore survival horror game where you're expected to die a lot and learn.

It's awesome. If you like survival horror it's must buy.

Well...

Do you feel something is wrong with the game industry right now?

Like current triple A games are not as fun as they were in the n64, ps1/ps2 days?

Like something is missing?

If you do feel this way, then ZombiU is for you. If you dont, maybe you will enjoy the game, but i cant be sure

Give ZombiU a shot - it's not the prettiest game (some textures are... launch title level), but the lighting easily makes up for it. Brilliant atmosphere, great sense of anxiety since a death is actually meaningful. A truly worthy pick up IMO.

The game could have used some fat streets of rage 2 arrows, yeah.

Don't be afraid to backtrack a little. The correct path is often times behind you.

As for the difficulty, here's my tips:

-Buy the unite flan and the unite dodge first and foremost. Those things are essential the the point where I don't understand why they were gated off.
-Buy the energy converter after that. Using that and line attacks, you can restore your health far more quickly and efficiently than using items
-Try not to use items unless you absolutely need them. Energy converter + line attack makes way more sense when things get crazy, especially against large crowds.
-After that, start buying into as much as speed boosters as you can. The quicker you can draw the shapes, the better off you're be in complex fights.

If you like real survival horror games it would have been your GOTY 2012. If you want a COD with Zombies you would get a mediocre game.

The biggest mistake people make with ZombiU is assume it's a shooter. It's not. It doesn't play like one, and it's not supposed to. It's a survival horror game, and it's about managing what little resources you have and figuring whether the risk of engaging in any given situation is worth it.

That said, it's absolutely fantastic.

I loved it, too. You should definitely pick it up.

I just ordered the NSMB Wii U Bundle and Wind Waker HD Collector's Edition, and I preordered 3D World as well. And I just got Tearaway and A Link Between Worlds as well! This week is going to be awesome.

ZombiU is on my Christmas list, so the above posts are making me very happy.

Really enjoyed the demo, I love these kind of games where you can't rush about like a tit and have to gather your thoughts before entering the next room.

Then you'll have a merry zombie xmas in London ;)

If my wallet allows it, I will go for a Wii U this holiday.

Now...just add Borderlands 2 with all DLC to the release list.

Welcome to the club... I ordered sm3dw through zavvi so its gonna take ages :(

Thanks for the input, guys. This was the post that sold me completely.

I was expecting Zombie of Duty. If I'm getting true survival horror, then I'm so fucking in.

Hey guys. Loving my Wii U.

Any recommendations on good games that take advantage of the motion controls? Any new WII Sports or something comparable thats good?

Well there's the motion plus enabled HD Wii Sports Club on Wii U.

Pikmin 3 is also INFINITELY better with pointer controls, definitely pick that up.

Er...Wii Sports Club? Or you meant new Sports? I guess NintendoLand if you don't have that already. Metroid Blast is a...well...blast.

BL2 while playing on the gamepad in bed would be awesome. Would make me double dip, even after putting in ~60 hours on the PC version.

Which leads us to the current situation: people say "But nintenod has no no no 3rd party support" when the 3rd party games arent exactly setting the world on fire with hype. On any plataform.
I agree with this but I'm wary of it being just because of my own interests. The only 'third parties' that genuinely get me excited these days are indies. I wouldn't be buying these games on Wii U regardless, I've got a better-than-PS4/XB1-level PC for my third party multiplats. But they're all so incredibly boring, I've got all this hardware under the hood and I'm still just playing indie games.

The difference is quite clear:
- Red Steel is a terrible game
- Zombi U is not. ^_^

I would double dip. I've put a sickening amount into borderlands two, probably around the 600 hour mark. "18 days" alone on my siren and I have all the characters at max level

Sounds great :D

I've been playing WW HD and LBW this week, while waiting for Mario on Friday, and I thought I was spoilt, but you will be trumping me there.

That's some good taste in gaming right here. Probably the best games of the holidays.

I just rented ZombiU and I am very pleasantly surprised so far. I honestly don't know what the hell was wrong with the IGN and Gamespot reviews of this game. What is wrong with it?

Is there something wrong with methodical survival horror? I went through everything but the final boss in Silent Hill 2 killing every monster with nothing but a lead pipe. That is how I play ALL my survival horror games. Fuck the Left 4 Dead series. I went through both Dead Space 1 and Dead Space 2 with nothing but the starting weapon. Not because I was aiming for some achievement, but that is how I play these games. Methodical, surgical, slow and steady.

So again, what is wrong with this game? Another example where a game was ruined by terrible critics.

Alright, last question I have about WiiU games before I buy the thing, I swear:

Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate: how is it if I'm just going to be playing single player? I'm not going in expecting story, but I do want really satisfying combat. And hopefully decent music.

I remember that some reviews sounded like the critic went in expecting a FPS game.

Sadly survival horror is dead by now and it seems that some journalists already forgot about it.
But honestly, I think they were just bad at this game.

combatwise MH3U is absolutely great. every weapon is basically a totally different combat system.
Maybe look up some of the tutorial vids for each weapon. Singleplayer is fine. You can also access the multiplayer missions alone btw.

I am just a nub though.

In that case you should be happy on both counts. The music in Monster Hunter isn't often mentioned but it is pretty strong. As for the combat, it is very deep and satisfying, though you will have to accept that Monster Hunter is a game that consists primarily of boss battles.

I tried the demo on 3DS and it was some boss battle that was overly long, grindy, and not all that clear how to play. I wanted to like it, I really did, but I was very underwhelmed. For an RPG, just too action-focused.

The Arenas (or areas) are very small, uninspired. I didn't see anything to encourage exploration. Soul Sacrifice was the same on Vita. I liken it to a more action-heavy Phantasy Star Online.....which is not a complement.

The IGN reviews more like "yea not really my thing" while the Gamespot review was one of the worst reviews I have ever read and dripping with incompetence to grasp what a game is trying to be.

Nothing is wrong with the game aside from a little launch-rush jank. Doesn't mean it's perfect, though.

Well, it's an RPG in the sense that it is entirely about character building for and via combat and not for and through narrative.

it is not clear how to play. however thats the point. you have these really strange weapons that dont move the way you want them too and then you have these really strong monsters with seamingly unlimited amount of HP.

however once you start killing them you just cant stop.

The gaming world has changed since the old days. Plus FPS is predominantly a faceroll genre, no offence intended to it - it's just about having fun shooting stuff. So the idea of adding complexity and forethought to the gameplay really alienated some people. Meaning there were always gunna be some reviewers who didn't understand a FPS that didn't involve charging in guns blazing, with infinite ammo and regenerating health.

Wonderful 101 got similar treatment, although not as badly. Those sorts of games just aren't meant to be played by everyone, some people just don't get them.
