Francis rages about Microtransactions

And Major Nelson came to this mans house. ungrateful swine, microsoft is giving you the privilage of accessing the game you already bought!

He's making a excellent point. I hate this nickel and dime shit that MS are going down. Just horrible.

Maybe he can tell his buddy Major Nelson to fix it. Oh that's right, he's just some guy with a dumb character.

Yeah, neither Sony or Microsoft went out of their way to get him on board in the past month. /s

Sorry, he obviously some pull. Most certainly more than a person insulting him on a message board.

What a shit first post.
Seriously. Just terrible.

I believe that microtransactions can work in a specific environment, but doing what Microsoft did with Forza is just plain greed. Terribly disappointed.

Sounds like unfortunately that stuff could well be standard for racing games, or more common than most genres anyway.

Crazy how EA just has a single (albeit grossly overpriced) "everything's instant maxed out" DLC for NFS Rivals, I recall hearing Most Wanted was bad with them, and maybe they're even holding out until later after release before showing off a bunch of cars you can buy, but I really can't comprehend a NEED for the DLC they released unless you're obsessive compulsive about maxing everything out.

Yep. Just horrible. I really don't like the way they've handled the whole Xbox One reveal, the fact that they thought that TV was more important then console power, the forced Kinect bundle, the fact that it's £80 more expensive in the UK then the more powerful PS4 and now this shite. I'm done with MS. They have slowly burned all my good will towards them away.

Dude has got a point here thats for sure. While things like expansions and other stuff way down the line are not as bad, things right off the start are to be looked at with disdain personally.

Its one of the reasons why I never supported the PSVita version of Ridge Racer.

Microtransactions should not be in full priced games.

Simple as that.

I don't mind if they are, but only if they keep them mostly "outside" of the game. Don't design the game around encouraging you to buy some [not in the slightest]. Leave it pure. Just reading the option of being able to pay all the time sullies it. I hope it's not too bad, haven't played it myself.

Have them in the store page and don't mention it in the game. I'm not sure if he was exaggerating but 400 hours, really - keeping the nice cars exclusive...yeah. I feel like GT does it fairer and better. Even though it still takes work.

It's not like they bought his soul or signed a contract in blood. I'd be more upset if Boogie/Francis felt he had to keep his opinions to himself, because that fellow came to his house.

Can't wait for the serious video rant.
Just can't stand his "Francis" persona, but I understand that some find him funny.

Yeah well they're bleeding money through the used game market, they tried to fix it but we wouldn't let 'em. They tried to recoup some cash by monetizing our personal data (captured by kinect video and voice analysis) but we wouldn't let 'em. They have to make a buck somehow. But it's like, whatever they do, they can't win. They give in to the whining and people still aren't happy. They're not running a charity over in Redmond you know? /s
the s stands for Sarcasm... or possibly Sessler, I just don't know anymore

Finally, a video game YouTube commenter who is "raging" about current issues. I was tired of seeing this space uninhabited.

On the one hand it's complete bullshit. I was actually interested in Forza until I heard about the microtransaction stuff. On the other hand welcome to next-gen consoles where I don't think anyone is breaking even on their launch games unless they have a cross-gen port. Say Xbox One isn't supply constrained and, by some miracle, the are able to sell something like three to four million consoles by March of next year (which probably won't happen) they probably still need to sell at least two to three million copies of Forza to break even (which also won't happen).

It's the Dead Space 3/Tomb Raider paradigm. They needed to sell like 4 million copies just to break even and they couldn't even do that with a 60 to 70 million install base. If your game is exclusive to next-gen right now, I imagine the bean counters are trying to figure out a way to squeeze every last dime out of players because that's the only way they are going actually make a profit.

But the thing that really pisses me off. The thing that has me fuming. I'm playing ACIV right now. I'm OCD. I collect EVERYTHING. Now there's time saver packs for everything. I could understand this if AC hadn't been a collect-a-thon for the past six years. Now it's like they are actually acknowledging the fact that it's a pointless grind and you can just pay two dollars to be done with it. That's bad game design. I'm actually surprised they hadn't monetized it earlier.

As long as people buy the Forza model of crap, MS will make it.

Maybe he can tell his buddy Major Nelson to fix it. Oh that's right, he's just some guy with a dumb character.
Seriously guy, get a grip.

He was being sarcastic i think.

Major Nelson only came into his house because MS are aware how popular Boogie is with the public. it was a PR exercise for them.

There's no need. It just feels bad to know that game assets are held back from the player to make a quick buck. My opinion, of course.

Usually, I wouldn't agree with you.
This time, I'll go with a "yeah, but..."

I don't feel that all blame should shift to Microsoft and EA, (though they might be leading causes of this), as we've seen ridiculous microtransactions on the PS3 by the Tales series, Capcom, and so on. It's just a shit system that shouldn't be implemented in $60 games. Companies need to make a new type of game that works with microtransactions, not butcher ones and try to make more money for reasons.

Edit: That, or as mentioned above, make it available, but don't force your game around it. Options are good if implementer correctly.

God, I wish the higher-ups at Capcpcom read these posts.

Great video. A truly odious act indeed. You would hope that after the PR mauling they've had over the last year someone might have thought "Microtransactions are divisive, lets make sure every one we have looks as good as possible, and make sure we can defend them well should anyone mention them".

I'm sick of deliberately being down on MS and the One but pretty much this.

Finally a snarky comment on a discussion board about someone's work.

That being said, waiting for the more serious video.

Oh, I was specifically targeting NFS Rival's lone cheat DLC. Hell, it may be that expensive BECAUSE it creates an edge in MP, not that I really notice given I rarely really race with other people and cops can't upgrade their vehicles anyway.

Forza's a different story though, definitely.

They shouldn't be in $20 downloadable titles like Killer Instinct and Crimson Dragon either

The old KI games and Panzer Dragon games you get a FULL fucking adventure with all characters and all secret items and accessories and everything for one price. That is how it is supposed to be. I paid the $40 to show support for the KI franchise but other than that FUCK OFF Microsoft

Well, isn't it more like they cut up KI into little pieces you can buy part by part with a free base, OR you could get it all at once for $40? That seems relatively benign, though I'd rather just spend the $40 after getting a taste of what they give for free.

Crimson Dragon though, what little I'd been hearing definitely sounds bad, I need to look into it more though. That's probably one of the more damning examples to me, it's not even an AAA game, just one that's been in development for forever because they wanted it to be Kinect at first.

The problem is games are getting more and more costly to make. I don't understand why developers keep trying to make these unprofitable games.

Oh, my bad!
I see what you mean.
I haven't played NFS Rivals yet, but it sounds like it might be implemented in the right way. Not sure, though.

Forza 5 is the only game that has made me change my decision of buying a console twice.

Because the fanbase "gamers" keep demanding more and more shiny graphics among other things, yet want to pay the exact same prices they always have been.

Agreed. I just don't like the direction MS is trying to take gaming in. From all the crap they changed (DRM) to microtransactions. I refuse to support them as a company.

Why would we buy a game we basically already have though. Besides, racing games are profitable - hugely popular worldwide. Just make decent improvements over the previous versions.

If it's not better, why should I buy it, for charity?

That´s how i see it too. I was thinking i might get one at the end of the generation for cheap and the few exclusives that are worth playing, but i´m just through with Microsoft. The DRM, the forced Kinect, the anti used, the always online. Glad that they 180ed those restrictions, but micro-transactions (that aren´t even micro lol) for full priced games. I can gladly say fuck em.
