Reggie confirmed for Spike VGX appearance [Up: "new look at an upcoming Wii U game"]

If they do show something at the VGAs, I expect it will be in an attempt to cater to an older, hardcore audience. I'd expect Zelda or Metroid, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

Are people really expecting Reggie to make the mother of all announcements? If so, why, when Nintendo are struggling and playing everything safe now.

Straight from Aonuma.

Come now.

"So my final question, are you already preparing a new announcement for the next E3, in 2014? Maybe a Zelda for the Wii U? How about this?"

"Actually I wanted to prepare something for my visits in Germany and New York, that I can announce. But I was so busy preparing my presentation of A Link Between Worlds, that I can't show you anything "new" today. But you can enjoy my next announcement. As soon as I am back at my office I will start preparing something new that I can show." — Eiji Aonuma

When I talk about illogical ends, this is at least exhibit B.

I want to believe that by this point, even Nintendo realizes that they should be showing something new at VGX.

But they probably won't :(

Allz I want to hear about is Metroid.

They absolutely need to bring something be, whether it is Smash, X, Zelda U or something else (like Metroid, F-Zero, etc). They have to remain visible during this show which is going to be all about the new console hype. Plus, a big showing could further push US Wii U sales, which are something that definitely need all the boosts/help they can get.

Reggie will show up, say they have heard from us, they know where they messed up, and they are release a new NES console that will be internet only that will play all existing Virtual Console titles and dozen more in the months and years to come.

Yes I'm being sarcastic. A little. :(

So many possibilities with so few realities.

You're looking for an emulator.

Given the Wii U's current situation, this is an important appearance. A mic-dropping, crowd erupting hype-announcement is needed.

Do it, Reggie.

Zelda is not as big a series now as Smash has historically been.

Nevermind that people have taken Miyamoto's quote to illogical ends. What he considers "announcing Zelda" is not necessarily "HERE IS A REVEAL TRAILER AND ALSO AN EPIC SOUNDTRACK WHAT'S UP BITCHES." He revealed Skyward Sword with a piece of concept art at a roundtable meeting. That was the announcement of that game.

Link Between Worlds has been worked on for years but we didn't know about it before 2013. It showed up at a Nintendo Direct and released nine months later.

Where did the comic-con thing come from? People really thought they were going to unveil Zelda U at comic-con?

It's true that Zelda doesn't hold a candle to Smash. However, I think Zelda would make a bigger splash than Smash would. Everyone already knows about Smash 4, and the most Nintendo could do is release a kick-ass trailer with a character reveal or two. A brand new Zelda reveal would stir up more excitement due it being a new announcement.

The comic-con thing came from here (excuse the source).

And judging from the size of the comic-con event they had, I highly doubt an actual trailer was ever in the cards. Like you said, it would have probably been a piece of artwork or something along those lines.

My body is ready for an announcement.

Update on X.
Update on Super Smash
Update on Mario Kart
Update on Zelda
Update on Fire Emblem x SMT

ANYTHING PLZ REGGIE,
THINK OF MY BODY (IT'S READY)

Come now.

Wait, hold on. As you said, Nintendo considers unveiling a new Zelda to be showing artwork or whatever, and not necessarily a trailer. Under that line of reasoning, how does "showing something" at NY Comic-Con not qualify as an announcement? If artwork counts as an unveil, then why wouldn't that?

I'm hoping for a Zelda Wii U teaser trailer or a new Metroid. Realistically we'll probably only see Mario Kart or Smash Bros. Maybe another trailer for Smash and a release date for Mario Kart. We might get a Zelda trailer though if Nintendo wants to target the "hardcore" audience, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

I bet it'll be smash bros or x.

Showing a new Zelda, unless it's coming out next year, would be silly. Especially since there were two Zelda games that just came out.

There's actually going to be a big announcement for the Legend of Zelda: Lens of Truth, exclusively for the Wii U. Lens of Truth essentially turns the Wii U gamepad into the fabled Lens, allowing you to uncover secrets and disperse illusions in the game.

The cut in this video made it pretty obvious he will be there to take some award for 3D World. Probably Game of the year. I still hope for some Zelda though.
That would be quite something if Spike gave Mario the nod over TLoU or GTAV...

This year's awards are apparently prerecorded and streaming first, like a Nintendo Direct. So it's a familiar format for Nintendo, and it would feel natural for Reggie to introduce a new Smash trailer. We haven't had a proper trailer since E3, and Smash is one of their best-selling titles. It's also a favorite with the dorm-room crowd that is Spike's core demographic.

IF it's a Smash trailer... It could very well just be footage of elements teased in stills in Sakurai's Miiverse updates. For example, a montage including footage of the Mario Galaxy stage.

In a best-case scenario, we'd get some new characters. Back before E3, someone on these boards guessed E3 would reveal Mega Man, Villager, Wii Fit Trainer, Little Mac, Mii and Pac-Man. Half of those came true. That individual was seemingly the only person on the Internet to predict Wii Fit Trainer, as well. Chances are they knew something more and Nintendo simply withheld the three that were missing in action, opting to piecemeal out individual trailers until they deemed interest levels sufficiently high.

In other words, IF we get a Smash trailer, and IF it has new characters, we may see Little Mac, Mii and Pac-Man. Something fun to imagine, but whatever happens, I'm keen to see what Nintendo deems interesting and "strategic."

Expecting a new Nintendo game announcement and Zelda in particular some tacky gametrailers show...

Be happy if NoA is allowed to show a new stage of Smash Bros.

Probably wouldn't be something like Smash. They like making online videos to announce news for Smash.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but the VGX this year -is- an online video. The TV version will follow later and basically be a highlights reel of the three-hour stream. It's all pre-recorded this year -- no ceremony, no live audience, no gimmicks. In other words, it's more like a Nintendo Direct, just with the potential for a MUCH bigger audience, being multiplatform and well-advertised.

Where did the comic-con thing come from? People really thought they were going to unveil Zelda U at comic-con?

Aonuma said it himself in an interview. He was gonna "prepare something" (regarding Zelda U) but didn't have time to get it ready before he left since he was swamped with ALBW.

Reggie will come out and announce that the internet was right and GTAV and Persona 5 are Wii U exclusives. Geoff will attempt to point out all of the reasons that's wrong, but Reggie will keep talking, louder and louder. Soon the audience is on the floor, unable to turn off the TV or monitor due to vice like grips their hands have on their ears. Any that hear The Words perish, and no one knows where their spirits go. Soon the world is engulfed in the sound. If one listens carefully, they can hear a softer voice within their skull, whispering beneath the bellowing sound, tickling their inner ear with hot breath.

"Nintendo World, coming to Wii U and 3DS Summer 2014"

... is this the equivalent of the cool guys inviting the nerd to their party so they can dump pigs blood on them? :(

... then all cool guys (and a few, if not everyone else, others) are slaughtered by the nerd guy and his crazy paranormal abilities?

The Zelda, a gritty mature reboot by (insert whatever Western third party is the least insane option for Nintendo to pick)

LoZ, the Legend of Zelda reboot by Ninja Theory.

Zelda is an angry, hateful 16-year-old who will do anything to get out from under her father's thumb. One day, under the guise of night, she escapes the castle with her lesbian lover, Impa.

What Impa doesn't know is that Zelda is possessed by the Triforce of Wisdom. Zelda is constantly assaulted with infinite knowledge; she hears the thoughts of everyone in Hyrule--every last wish and hope, all at the same time. The voices drive Zelda to madness. Desperate to silence even Impa's thoughts, Zelda kills her, and then decides that all the world must die as well.

But then, a strange boy appears. His name is Link, and for some reason, Zelda cannot hear his thoughts. What Zelda does not know is that Link... is actually a demon.

"And without further ado, an exclusive first look at Nintendo's next project, right here on VGX and Spike TV!"

An empty warehouse. Bill Trinen stands clad only in old blue overalls and a green hat with an "L" crudely marked on the front in marker. His eyes are missing. In his hands are a silver platter bearing a Pizza Hut pizza pie.

Reggie descends from the ceiling on a golden rope. He carefully opens up the pizza box, thoughtfully selects a slice, turns toward the camera, raises the slice to his mouth, and slowly eats, his eyes never blinking. He consumes the entire pie in this fashion over the course of 15 minutes. He closes the box neatly, and climbs away again.

The sightless Bill throws the pizza box to the ground and turns over the silver tray.

Its kind of funny...the first time Nintendo appears on the show its the year with nearly zero hype. Don't think that many will watch it. :(

The only reason nintendo would be at VGX is to show a core console game.

My guess would be a new smash character. Long shot would be Wii U Zelda.

What build-up, exactly?

They showed the Smash trailer, then on the show floor in the press area, they aired a Wii Fit Trainer trailer. For the first day or so, the only shots were off-screen.

It wasn't Nintendos fault, more so the press. But they kept hyping an extended announcement and it ended up being the Wii fit trainer. Was a major let down if you were watching E3 live. That said I was being facetious. And again I reiterate it was the press's fault for making it into a bigger thing than it was.

well now I'm going to be disapointed if this doesn't happen
